5TC=L32G1 2 thumbs up!
By D. Posey
Very nice picture and sound. I picked it up for $634. delivered. Sub vendor Beach Camera. Steal of a deal for the new model. The G1 has a very good screen format options. I can't tell you how surprised I was at the sound. Many LCD's have poor sound do to the hidden speakers. The price we pay for style. The speakers are placed at the bottom. Down firing. All in all love my purchase.Con:1.The warranty. If they can't fix it over the phone you will have to carry it in or pay for the upgraded warranty. Larger models are in home service.2. No Ipod dock like the x1 models. It would be nice to have the option to buy as a add on. (Can't find any options for it)3. (Maybe) No 1080p support for PC. 720p looks better when viewing standard cable. So this depends on your primary use. @ 32" you can not discern the difference in viewing movies/TV. Only when using the computer. The text etc will look much cleaner. If you primarily use PC get the S1 model or spend the money for 37"G1.* Very nice quality, Solid feel, nice style *

5A great, inexpensive LCD TV without bells and whistles.
By Samuel Trenton
This is an excellent deal no matter which way you look at it. For $465 with free shipping (Prime member) and no tax, this one is a no-brainer.The picture is sharp - maybe not as sharp as its more expensive big brothers, but sharp enough for any casual TV viewer. Be sure to find the right picture format for your purposes (I like "justified", although others with weaker eyesight might like "zoom", while others may prefer the wide angle if they are avid HD video fans. There are enough picture features to adjust it to your liking, including extensive color settings and more. And to top it all, it's just plain easy to adjust using the included remote. One caveat: you may find the maximum volume setting a bit low when you first plug it in, and you might even turn the volume up to 100% or so in bigger rooms. But there is an easy fix: go into menu, then audio settings, and adjust the base audio level to max, then when you go back to your remote you'll find you have enough volume/headroom to enjoy any movie with plenty to spare. I don't need a 2.1 or 3.1 speaker system; it's sound is good as it is. I'm an audiophile, but I just don't see the need to spend money on an extra speaker system to match up with this inexpensive, but good, TV.Assembly? What assembly. The only thing you need to assemble is the stand, which consists of four screws. Easy peasy. This baby is plug and play - I had it up and running in under 15 minutes. It features a very intuitive settings format. All in all, a great product at a ridiculous price. Highly recommended. If you just want a no frills LCD TV with HD, and you don't plan to build a screening room or theater, this is the ticket. Get them while they last!

5Agreed. Two thumbs up!
By One Guy
I had been reviewing tv's for months before purchasing this G1. At 549 shipped from Amazon, I jumped on it. I found many stores discontinuing this model and became nervous, but all doubt was removed when item arrived with in home set up. I feel this tv will make a great addition to my bedroom, but currently it is my main living room tv.The picture is great. Anything at or above 720 looks amazing, some things at 480 make me question if it is in fact higher. Contrast is very good, and I love that it has a 120Hz refresh rate. Any glare is what I would consider to be minimal (although better placement on my part would eliminate this all together).Speakers are fantastic (I do have an onkyo receiver and speakers that I no longer feel I have to use for EVERYTHING). Set up is straightforward and remote layout is pretty good. Also, although I have yet to have an opportunity to use the Vera Link, I think that will be a great feature.Although a little more pricey than others it this size I feel it is a great value for what it offers and was glad I made the decision to purchase this tv from Amazon rather than whatever was on sale at my local Walmart. If you are looking for a 32inch tv, I believe you will satisfied with this as well.

3Good TV but very clumsy "Smart" features & interface
By Michael Sandman
The LG LS5700 is an OK TV. If I could, I'd give it 2-1/2 stars. The LS5700's selling point is supposed to be the "smart" features that let you connect to the Internet, get content from Netflix, Hulu Plus, etc. and share content from other devices in your network. It does have a nice crisp HD picture after you tweak the color settings, and so-so sound, as expected. But if that's all you want in a TV there are less expensive alternatives. Unfortunately, the interface for using the "smart TV" features is very clumsy. And although the manual does a good job of showing how to connect the TV, it has almost nothing on how to use the "smart" features. The built-in menus are supposed to do that. The on-screen menus and LG's online support are minimal at best, and just plain wrong in one case (see below). On the plus side, the TV connected easily to my home network, using either WiFi or an Ethernet cable. And the "smart" features do work, if you can stand the interface However, this is TV is not the user-friendly web-integrated TV I was hoping for. That's still some time in the future. The TV includes a remote that's used to access the "smart" features and also to set up the TV, connect to your WiFi network, etc. It has sort of an air mouse pointer that shows up on the screen. When you use features that require entering text, there's an on-screen QWERTY keyboard that you click on with the remote control's pointer. Using the on-screen keyboard is just plain horrible. It's very slow and the remote's pointer is slow and somewhat jerky. If you get into the TV's setup menu you can change the pointer's setting to "fast", which helps a bit, but the on-screen keyboard is hopeless. It's not mentioned in the manual, but you can attach a wireless keyboard through a USB port. That lets you enter text more easily than you can with the on-screen keyboard. But the wireless mouse that pairs with my new wireless keyboard doesn't work. LG tech support says the set can take only one user input even though there are three USB ports. (They responded very quickly -- within hours -- to their credit.) So you have to use the remote control to do the pointing. What this TV really needs is a remote with a decent pointer and a little pull-out keyboard or a keyboard on the back. Samsung, Sony and Viszio (among others) do that; I would have been a lot happier with the set if LG did the same thing. There's an iPhone app from LG that could (in theory) make the interface better. It's supposed to allow you to control the TV from an iPhone. The app doesn't have a keyboard, according to reviews on iTunes, so it's not perfect. Far worse, although the LG web site specifically mentions that the LS5700 series is compatible with the app, the app doesn't work with this model. This was confirmed by LG tech support, and the app's information tab has a list of supported models includes the LW5700 series, but not the LS5700 series. To access music, photos or video on your home network using the DLNA capability, you need to download an application from the LG website to your computer. The TV's setup menu does mention that you need to have media sharing software, but you have to dig deeply into the on-screen menus to find out.Perhaps LG intends to update the iPhone app, or the set's firmware, or offer a compatible remote with a keyboard and a better pointer. But until then, avoid this model if you want easy-to-use "smart TV" features. The interface on this set is not ready for prime time. (EDITED 3-30-2012)

4Good "smart" HDTV
By Elizabeth
This was not only my first HDTV purchase ever, but my first TV purchase, period. I'd managed to live with hand-me-down and garage-sale TVs up til now, but I decided I wanted something nice for a change. I don't subscribe to cable or satellite television, so I wanted something that had some built-in "smart" capabilities. I also wanted something that wasn't going to break the bank. I really dislike 3D content, so I decidedly did NOT want a 3D TV. Finding a nice TV that has smart features and *isn't* 3D is getting harder and harder. For the most part, this TV has fit the bill, and I've been happy with my purchase.I thought about putting together a list of pros and cons, but that didn't really seem to work too well with this particular review, so I've listed some general notes below:-- PICTURE QUALITYIn a word, excellent. Granted, I don't have a whole lot to compare it to, but it's one of the best I've seen. Blacks are good, as are whites. Images are nice and crisp when viewing HD content.-- TURNING OFF TRUMOTIONThe one thing that gave me a real headache with this TV was figuring out how to turn off the TruMotion setting. I know some people are really jazzed about the 120 Hz view and the lack of motion blur, but to me, it made everything look like I was watching a soap opera. (Don't know what I'm talking about? Google "soap opera effect.")So I turned it off. That was easy enough: Settings -->' Picture '--> Picture Option '--> TruMotion '--> OFF. There, fixed! Or so I thought. It fixed it for the TV input. But then I started watching something on Netflix (via the app on the TV), and the dreaded soap-opera effect was back!It took me several days of online searching and talking to friends before I figured out that you have to REPEAT THIS process for EVERY SINGLE INPUT. (e.g. Input '--> HDMI 1 -->' Settings '--> Picture '--> Picture Settings '--> TruMotion '--> OFF.) And for the built-in apps, like Netflix, you have to start a video, then go the QMENU -->' Set Video -->' Picture Option '--> TruMotion -->' OFF.Once you've set it for each input and app, though, it does stay defaulted to that. So at least you only have to do it once, not every time you start a new video. I found no online documentation ANYWHERE that specified this, though, so I thought it was definitely worth mentioning in this review. Hopefully it will help someone else.-- SOUND QUALITYNot as great, though not as bad as some flat-panels I've heard. You can turn it up as loud as you want, but after about the half-way point on the volume scale, there's not much difference. It's the same way with my parents' LG HDTV, which is a few years old. I solved this problem by hooking up an external home stereo system (Sony BRAVIA DAV-DZ170 Home Theater System) and bypassing the TV's built-in audio altogether.-- "SMART" FEATURESThe "smart" features were one of the selling points for me. When it comes down to it, though, I only really use 2 of them - Netflix and Hulu Plus. Some of the reviews (and comments on reviews) suggested that this unit might have an Amazon Instant Video app. It does not. Let me repeat: THIS TV DOES NOT HAVE AN AMAZON INSTANT VIDEO APP. And from what I can tell from various sources online, it never will. No idea why, since there are other LG HDTVs that do. This one just isn't one of them. One user suggested that it just required a firmware update. My firmware is up to date, and there is still no Amazon app. Sorry, people. It just doesn't exist. The "premium" apps this TV comes with (or at least, the ones mine came with) are:-- Vudu-- Hulu Plus-- MOG-- AccuWeather.com-- MLB.TV-- Netflix-- CinemaNow-- YouTube-- NHL-- vTuner-- Associated Press-- Facebook-- Picasa-- Google Maps-- Twitter-- ViewsterThe LG app store is a joke. Forget finding anything you would ever want, much less be willing to pay for, in that store. The online browser is also a joke. If you have to view a website on your TV (e.g. a network television website or Amazon Instant, etc. to view a video), your best bet is to hook up a computer via HDMI. Don't bother trying to do it with the built-in browser. It may work, but it won't work well, and it will be a painful experience. Trust me, I tried. The YouTube app is pretty weak. It works, but it's less user-friendly than even the mobile YouTube website. Good luck finding anything specific. The Netflix and Hulu Plus apps work well enough. They're not as user-friendly to navigate through as their respective websites, but that's to be expected, and I've found that it's easy enough just to queue up things on the computer first, and then play them from the TV apps. That saves you a lot of annoying "typing" with the magic remote.I haven't tried any of the others. I see absolutely no reason why I would want to view Google maps, Associated Press content, Twitter or Facebook on my TV. I don't watch sports, so the MLB.TV and NHL apps are of no use to me. I have no idea how well they work. I'm a pretty loyal Pandora user, so I haven't tried MOG. I just plug in my iPhone to my stereo system when I want to listen to music.-- SMART SHAREIt works, but it's not very user-friendly, in my experience. I was able to connect my Win7 laptop to the TV without much difficulty, but it's virtually impossible to search for a particular song or album or artist via the Smart Share interface - browsing seems to be the only option, and that can be a real pain when you have a LOT of music/videos/etc. to scroll through.Streaming music seems to work just fine, but streaming video resulted in a lot of lag, and I've got a great WiFi network set up here. Anything over about 480p just doesn't really stream well on this TV, in my experience. It also seems to lock up the TV frequently, requiring you to turn it off and on again before you can do anything.-- THE "MAGIC" REMOTEMany people have complained that this thing is annoying. I don't have a problem with it. It's like a Wii remote: you wave it around, and the cursor on screen follows your movement. There aren't a lot of buttons on it, though - volume up/down, channel up/down, Home (which takes you to the main app/input selection screen), Back (which exits out of the screen you're in), a scroll wheel that serves as channel up/down when you scroll and an "enter/select" key when you press it, a Help button, and an Input button.Since I don't have cable TV, I don't have a lot of channels to scroll through when I'm watching actual television, so the lack of a number pad doesn't bother me. But I would find it annoying to have to use a different remote or manage to figure out how to bring up the on-screen number pad if I had hundreds of channels at my disposal and wanted to go to a particular channel instead of just scrolling through them all.The remote sometimes takes a moment to register, too. I've found that you have to wave it around for a second or two before the TV realizes you want to do something and brings up the cursor. I frequently have to recalibrate it, too, by waving it around in a figure-eight motion, to get it to actually recognize my motions.-- SIMPhttp://amzn.com/dp/B007075O5W/?tag={komponelektr-20}Works nicely. It was pretty easy to hook up my home theater system so that it turns on and off automatically with the TV.-- THE INPUTSThe inputs all seem fine, and they're plentiful. I don't have that many devices that needed connecting - a DVD player/home theater system and occasionally my laptop (when I want to watch something on Amazon Instant Video or something on another website). It's easy to swap between inputs.-- THE OUTPUTSIt's a little annoying that this TV only supports digital optical audio out, with no other analog options, but I guess it's not really unexpected, given the cost of the system. It hasn't posed a problem for me, but it's something to be aware of if you have an older stereo system that doesn't support that kind of input.-- THE PHYSICAL STRUCTURE OF THE UNITI was actually pretty impressed with this. I'd heard horror stories about how unstable and top-heavy HDTVs could be. I bought the 42" and have it mounted on the stand that came with it. It feels pretty sturdy to me. I have cats who seem to think the space between the back of the TV and the wall is the perfect hiding place, and while I definitely do not approve of them being back there (and make them move every time I witness it), they haven't even nudged it.The swivel feature is also useful, since I have it positioned at one angle when I'm watching alone, but want it angled more to the left when there are more people watching, due to the position of my sofa. Swiveling the TV on the stand doesn't feel unstable at all, which I was a little worried about initially.-- PRICEThe price on this unit is excellent. You won't find a lower price anywhere, and if you do - even if it's after you've already made your purchase (as long as it's within 14 days of delivery) - Amazon will honor it, per their "TV Low Price Guarantee" (http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=200556860). I purchased this unit at $749, and by the time it shipped, the Amazon price was already $20 lower. They reimbursed me the difference, which was really nice. I see now it's even cheaper. While there are some quirks with the system, this is an unbeatable price for a great TV.

4"magic remote" is pretty annoying
By kuznetsov
"Magic remote" is pretty annoying. TV itself seems to be good - reasonable sound, reasonable image. I decided to buy this model because of good viewing angle range and better than average sound. I do not care much about the 3D features that manufacturers are promoting. Please note - the "magic remote" was the only one provided. IMHO this is one of those occasions when being cute and creative trumped being useful. I really wish I would have a more traditional remote together with this TV. Changing options and settings is not very easy.

4Best In It's Class
By GGobblin
Bought this from Amazon about a month ago. Did A LOT of online and in store research looking for a 32"-40" LED TV.Looked at Vizio, Samsung, Sony, LG in addition to Panasonic. After a month - I'm very satisfied with my selection. If you have read the reviews on this model here on Amazon you will see overall very good comments.Have seen some silly complaints about short power cord, and have seen some about the wifi adapter(I'm using ethernet cable). And some average comments on the sound, but the major points of the TV are Great. There is one reviewer (C Reach) who claims to have gotten video settings online - THIS IS TOTAL BS. I HAVE SEARCHED AND SEARCHED - Does Not Exist.Below you will find a Pros and Cons list and my picture and sound settings. My settings were done using my eyes and ears no calibration equipment.Everyone's taste and environment are different, so these are what look good on mine. I will eventually test further with my calibration discs, but for those looking foe a good starting point from which to fine tune - this should help.PROS:Non Gloss screen reduces glareAmazing viewing anglesGood overall contrast and color qualityLow power consumptionSmart (Flat) input layout on backGood assortment of connections* (*Component video needs to use the included adapter - no biggie)Price / Performance Ratio is BEST in ClassDNLA and Internet FeaturesBuild QualityNo Spotlighting from corners like the Samsung sets (That was a dealbreaker for me)Easy SetupCONS:Sound could be better - Sure, but is equal to or better than most in this classCould have more extensive picture adjustment settings, but has enough to obtain a quality picture.Remote should be Illuminated and have a dedicated Sleep button. (Many people will use this for a bedroom TV)Some complained about power cord being short - But I had no problem with this at all. (It is detachable)OVERALL I Give it a 8.8 out of 10.MY SETTINGS:Were set by eye averaging several different chanels and subject matter in a room with no light other than the TV.You will probably want to fine tune based on taste and environment. Keep in mind this was done without calibration software, but I'm in the industry and have color experience. 4*Not* WiFi-Ready--yet
By FaceForRadio
This TV provides an excellent picture, with a very wide viewing angle (for an LCD). However...On page 63 of the manual, it says "The TV's internal software was designed to work with Panasonic's wireless adapter model DY-WL10." After trying three non-Panasonic wireless adapters just to see if they would work (they wouldn't), I purchased the Panasonic adapter, but, as the other reviewer discovered, the TV would not recognize the DY-WL10. Panasonic's Netconnect site covers only 2011 television models--nothing about 2012 models. When I called Panasonic Support today, I was told that, no, the DY-WL10 isn't compatible with any of the 2012 Panasonic models. The model that the support rep recommended is the DY-WL5, which isn't available yet; I can't find it on Amazon, or even on Panasonic's own site. B&H Photo lists it for pre-order with a March 31st availability date. So, at least until that date, this TV cannot use a wireless connection.Backup plan: I used a powerline ethernet adapter to connect the TV to my router. The TV recognized it easily, and it works fine in my house. But, as with all powerline products, your house's wiring must be pretty good for it to work well enough for video transfer.[Edit 03/08/2012] As a commenter pointed out, the appropriate wireless adapter for this TV (and I assume all 2012 Panasonic WiFi-ready models) is the DY-WL20, not the DY-WL5. Of course, I can't find that model for sale either as of this moment.

5Exceeded expectations.

Really great tv. Perfect size for my office/studio. Picture quality is excellent. I calibrated the tv using settings I found with a quick google search. Sound is ok, but as with most flat screens it lacks a really impressive on board audio set up. Xbox 360 games look incredible. I've been playing Skyrim and Battlefield 3 and am blown away by the picture. I fired up amazon prime (through Viera Cast) and watched Troll Hunter in HD. Again, beautiful picture (and awesome low budget Norweigian movie). And now a more niche consideration. I am an illustrator by trade and use a Wacom tablet and photoshop in my day to day work. I purchased this tv with the intention of utilizing it as a third, large scale monitor for certain projects. A big reason I went for this particular tv is the LED screen. I find it is much easier on my eyes when I am painting on screen for hours on end.So there you have it. Beautiful image quality, a decent service lineup (Netflix, Prime, etc.), customization, great aesthetics, light weight, and it won't make your eyes bleed when you are painting an event poster at 2 in the morning. And yes, it says wi-fi ready but it needs an adapter. Otherwise it would say built in wi-fi. so the option is either buy a tv with built in (an extra $200-$2000) or buy an adapter ($60.. I agree it's a rip off. I ran a wire.). Same reason the E3 model had only 4 stars, from what I read in the reviews. So if you can get past that, this is a really excellent buy.

5A sleeper to watch out for!!
By Christian Griffin
I have been researching TV's for quite awhile trying to determine the best one for me. I have watched the technology continually improve and am amazed by the progress. I finally decided to take the plunge and purchase a television and was certain I was going to purchase a DLP set. I made one of my many trips to the local electronics store to do more comparisons of certain models I had picked out and had not even considered an LCD TV, let alone an LG television. I was walking along the displays when my girlfrined actually pointed out the TV to me. I took a brief look and didn't see anything special and it was only upon closer inspection that I discovered what an awesome TV the LG 42LB5D is. First, I set all of the neighboring 42" Televisions to the same HDTV signal (which anyone can do- just select the input on the tv's until they all show the same signal). I was never a fan of LCD TV's due to the pixelation in fast scenes-usually sports. This TV did the best job of displaying fast-moving sequences with very little pixelation, even better than the nearby Sony, Samsung, Toshiba, and Sharp models. My curiosity was piqued. I don't know if it is because of the proprietary software they use to render the image or if it is because the LCD panel has a 5ms response time. In case you don't know, a 5ms response time for an LCD panel is very, very fast. Alot of the other manufacturers have an 8ms response time. The faster the response time of the panel, the better it is able to render fast changing images. Next, I switched the channels to a standard definition signal. Since most of what is on cable and satellite is broadcast in SDTV, it would be a good idea to pick a TV that does a good job of displaying that signal without making it look so bad. This television does an amazing job of displaying SDTV signals. Of course, it'll never be as good as a plain old CRT TV, but it does one heckuva job! Now I was getting really impressed. The colors were bright and looked as good as the brand new Samsung LNT-4265, though the Samsung had a little deeper blacks. I don't think the extra few hundred dollars I would have had to pay would be worth that. Especially considering the better pixelation performace I noticed on the LG. (Pixelation annoys the heck out of me, by the way.)I started checking out the specs. It has a clear QAM tuner that allows you to receive digital cable signals without the cable box. That usually means you can get all of the local network (ABC, CBS, NBC, CW, PBS) hi-def and secondary digital channels for free over your cable line (as long as you're not using a cable box connected to your TV). After I took it home, I found I had all of those channels. It has 3 HDMI inputs. It accepts 1080p via HDMI, Component, and VGA inputs. The VGA input was especially important to me because I have the XBOX 360 HD-DVD player and the only way to view movies in 1080p is via the VGA output from the 360. If not for that, I'd only be able to view my HDDVD's in 720p or 1080i.I am incredibly pleased with this purchase and I gotta thank my girlfriend for noticing it or it would have slipped right past me. I know to take a review from a website with a grain of salt because you never really know who is writing it. The only thing I can tell you is to find a store that has one on display and do exactly what I did. I guarantee you'll see what I'm talking about.

5This is a good TV. No, really!!
By RJ
Buying a new TV is akin to spending half your weekend buying a new car. Its exhausting. After a lot of studying of consumer Reports and visiting a half dozen retailers, and fighting off the geeko sales people who know little, we settled on the LG. I was nervous about buying a piece of equipment from a manufacturer I've only heard of but have never had the pleasure of letting them into my house. LG equipment tends to be a bit better in cost and I think I've figured out at least one reason why. It has nothing to do with quality or ease of use either. Your first clue is after you open the box up and see whats inside. Nothing except the set, some packing and the small accessories box which contains bare bones essentials, just what you need, not what you don't. The power cord for the set (gotta have that), the remote (more about that in a minute) and an operators manual. Thats it. Have a nice day. The manual is a shortened version of the big 100 plus page version that you can download off the LG website which is by the way, easy to navigate. I recommend you get that. Its got some info thats helpful, plus if HD is a bit too wild west for you, it helps you understand what all the buzz words are about. The manual that comes with the set tends to be a bit too brief in places. The power cord is somthing you may want to consider replacing at the outset. Yes, I'm sure it meets all the UL requirements and whatnot but I have a problem with electrical cords that shine like they came from a kids toy. It didnt seem to have that "heavy duty" look and feel to it. You'll need some cables too if you haven't got them already. Component Video types are the way to go and you may as well cough up some bucks and get the HDMI cable as well. About 75-90 bucks. Don't go cheap on this piece of wire. Its all digital and it needs to be quality. Digital signals have no tolerance for just an "ok" connection. 1080P is all but here and thats where that cable will be used. The monster brand is overpriced but they do build a damn good cable. LG Tech support. Great! I had some setup questions (mostly around the remote) that I needed to get answered so I gave them a call. A couple of prompts later and you get a real voice. Speaks English and lives in Alabama and not a foreign country where they change their names to sound hip and American... Very polite, professional, patient (thats a biggie with me) and didn't have to keep putting me on hold to go ask his supervisor a question about my question. I gave him the model number and bam-bam he knew everything about that set like he owned one himself.. Perfect. Thats the way to keep a customer. One of the reasons I wont buy a Toshiba anything ever again. They lost the help-the-customer-be-happy" formula a few years ago. Also a reason that Toshiba products are slowly disappearing from retailer shelves..but I digress.Ok so what about the "experience". Excellent picture. After you do a few tweaks from the on screen menu ( piece of cake) its ready to rock. First class picture quality all the way. AND, just like it looked in the showroom. If you're going to go with the on-board audio, its "ok". It won't blow your eardrums out but it's passable. LG is a company thats been slowly getting it right and I hope they dont mess it all up with deteriorating quality and bad customer service like some others TV manufacturers. I prefer doing business with tech companies that dont make me mad and slam the phone down. Service after the sale is what keeps me coming back to any manufacturer and if LG keeps it together and doesn't implode like some other brands have done that we all know about, then they're going to be around awhile.***UPDATE***I've had this unit a bit over a year now and everything is still A-OK.No problems. None. The picture is still as crisp as the day I brought it home and the settings stay put where there suppose to, and don't drift and need tweaking and retweaking like some other models do.I still reccomend this system as a superior TV for the medium to medium large living room. Tip: Like any electronics, keep it clean. Dust and home entertainment systems are best buddys. If you ask any service tech what causes failures and generates service calls, its more often than not dirt-caused.

5great picture on HD and SD channels, couldn't be happier
By pjf
I researched a lot of HDTVS and even took one back before I settled on the LG, and I've had it six months. The picture was fantastic, due to the 10,000 to 1 contrast ratio and the "engine" that converts even SD signals into near HD picture. I have Dish's HD package and the picture is great for both HD and SD, and I also use the OTA tuner and the picture from OTA HD signals is also fantastic - using an inexpensive radio shack OTA antenna. What sold me on this TV was the great picture, first and foremost, that it was 1080p, that it had 3 HDMI inputs and a PC connections. The TV is easy to configure, and the remote is great as well. I have no complaints at all. The sound is also pretty good -- I unhooked my home theater system to use the LG's speakers, which IMHO seemed better.

4Amazing TV, Almost Perfect
By E. Kirschner
To preface, this tv is a replacement for the UN55B8000 LED I had that malfunctioned. So this review should provide a good perspective for those debating between LED and Plasma like I was.Overall, the PN59D6500 is an excellent tv. It displays an amazing picture with deep blacks and beautiful colors. It just has a few issues which keep it from being perfect.Picture: The picture is great, especially for my primary usage which is bluray movie watching. In a dark environment watching a bluray movie I don't think any other tv out there can touch it. It's like being in a state-of-the-art movie theatre but better. The image is just so deep and rich. Really awesome. For this environment, it's no contest superior to the LED.During the daytime, it's a different story. I would say that the picture is very very good, but it's just not as bright as an LED. The whites on it are dull in comparison and you just don't get that pop that is easy to see at any Best Buy when you have a plasma next to an LED. So for this reason, if your primary interests are day time tv watching or sports, you may want to consider the LED. Not to say this tv isn't still great during the day. I watched some hockey on ESPN and the ice still looks plenty bright and white.Gaming: I have to give the edge to the Plasma here. Again it's not quite as bright as LED but it just presents a superior image with richer color. I thought God of War 3 looked great on the LED but on plasma it's just incredible. Feels like you're playing the movie 300 or something.3D Movies: I think the 3D on this tv is a great added feature. Now that they are giving away the glasses for free, everyone should be excited about it. However, it's an added feature, for me, not a reason to buy this tv. The reason for this is that while watching a 3D movie is awesome, it's not perfect technology. The sense of depth is awesome, but the image is too dim and there is noticeable flickering. I see this as something that will be cool to watch for those special big budget fx films (Avatar, Tron) but definitely not going to take the place of standard 2D viewing. I tried the 3d on Sony TV and it had equivalent amount of flickering. LG 3d doesn't have as much flickering but the picture is not nearly as good.3D Gaming: Also very cool but the technology is not up to par here. This isn't the tv's fault. PS3 is just not ready to deliver the goods here yet. In order for it to process 3D it has to cut the game's resolution in half. The difference is very noticeable, especially on a giant screen like this. Playing Killzone 3 3D, which is the flagship 3D title, the sense of depth totally enhances the game experience. The first time you line up your sight and feel like your target is yards away is really something. It's only afterward you notice that the graphics look like crap. The half resolution makes everything in the picture look jaggy, pixelated, and slightly shimmery. Almost like you're suddenly playing a Wii game. Again, it's still fun to try but I look more forward to seeing the 3D that PS4 can do.Buzzing: The number one complaint of plasmas, particularly samsungs, is that they have an issue with buzzing noise. Supposedly that was fixed on 2011 models. Well, it's still there, slightly. But it's faint. And only when the screen is completely black or mostly dark (like movie credits or night scenes). When this happens you notice the rise of a high pitched buzz. It's not very loud, not as loud as the ps3 fan. But it's high pitched so it cuts through everything else. Because it doesn't happen most of the time and it's not very loud, I have decided to live with the issue and usually will forget about it. A minor annoyance.Of course, that brings me to why I got this tv in the first place which is that the UN55B8000 I had had the well known problem of flashlighting in the corners. This caused a terrible black level and screen unevenness. Samsung Service was diligent and very professional about addressing my problem. On the 3rd service call they brought me a whole new panel. The new panel had the same problem but even worse. I was surprised when they called me and said they would give me a full refund. So nice job to Samsung service dept.I never got a useable LED tv so if you do decide to go that way, make sure you get one with no flashlighting.Overall, I definitely recommend the plasma over the LED. It just has a better picture, especially for watching bluray movies. If you don't care about that and mainly watch daytime television and sports, you may want to consider the brighter picture of the LED.

5Great TV. Best Value you'll find
By Stephen Wells
I think you would be hard pressed to find a better value on a 55-60 inch tv than what Amazon is offering. If you are like me you have narrowed your search down to 2 or 3 TV's and you are trying to determine which one will be perfect for your needs. I hope this review will help you in determining whether this tv is right for you. Before I pulled the trigger on this TV I had a few main concerns that I was worried about. *I was concerned about the Plasma Buzz that is normal for plasma TV's *I was concerned about the glossy surface being too reflective of the 6 windows I have in my living room. *I was concerned that the tv would not be bright enough for my circumstances since I don't have it in a darkened "theater" roomBUZZING: I have read horror stories about people who buy plasma tv's and complain about a buzzing that emits from the TV and makes watching/enjoying movies difficult. I am happy to report that, while there is a buzzing that I can hear when sitting directly in front of my TV at viewing distance, I can ONLY hear it when there is no sound coming from the TV (like during TV startup or while navigating silent menus like Netflix). When I first got the TV I tried to listen for it during movies, and at times I could hear it if I tried really hard during quiet scenes. When I don't try to listen for the buzzing, It is not a factor. I compare the buzzing to the fan noise on my xbox. If you listen for it it does exist, but when enjoying a movie or a game, it wont distract you.GLOSSY SURFACE: This TV went in our living room which has about 6 windows, and there are kitchen lights directly behind the seating area that reflect off the TV when the TV is turned off. When the TV is turned on, I have not noticed any problems. I do close the blinds on the windows though. Again, If I am looking for the reflections, I could probably distinguish them, but I have watched movies and played games in the middle of the day and I can't complain about the surface.BRIGHTNESS: Typically, Plasmas are not as bright as new LCD's. This TV replaced a 3 yr old LCD and it seems brighter to me. I can't compare it to the new LED back-lit LCD's because I don't own one, but this tv is plenty bright to enjoy movies in even well-lit rooms. No complaints here.Okay, so those were my main concerns. Now for some of the things that got me interested in this TV in the first place: The color on this TV is so even and consistent across the screen. There is now light bleeding in on the corners or edges. The black levels are super dark and crisp. I haven't done any calibration yet and sometimes colors do seem a bit over-saturated but again I am sure this is something that can be fixed with calibration. Those over-saturated scenes haven't been severe enough or frequent enough to make it worth my time to calibrate. The size of this TV is awesome...if you have seen a 60" TV next to a 55" you know that that 5(in this case 4) inches makes a big difference. Oh and it is only about 1.5" deep. This depth was big for me as I wanted something thin but I didn't want the flashlighting and light bleeding that plagues LCD's.Things that didn't influence my decision much: 3D. I am not a huge 3D fan--I think it is neat and fun, but I prefer non-3D over 3D 95% of the time. If I really cared about 3D I personally would have gone with a Passive 3D set since you can get 10 pair of glasses for $20 compared to $40 each for the Samsung active shutter glasses. I did watch Tangled 3D and the glasses bundled with the starter kit were pretty good. I didn't notice any flickering or anything like that and the depth of the 3D was impressive. The 2D to 3D conversion on this set was pretty week as expected. Smart TV. This TV has wireless connectivity and I really like that it can receive firmware updates automatically and wirelessly. I haven't used the apps much since I use my xbox for netflix, but the menu accessing, and browsing apps is pretty good.I think I have rambled on long enough. I guess if I could emphasize one point it would be that all TV technologies have trade-offs. The Plasma technology has weaknesses and imperfections. It also has a lot of advantages and strengths over other technologies. I do play a decent amount of video games, so the strengths of the plasma for gaming out-weighed the weaknesses. Hope this review helps.

5Why buy LED ?
By Tony
This TV is awesome. I conducted research on the LCD and LED T.Vs on the market and they don't come close to the picture this T.V has. Setup was easy and the TV looks amazing. The smart TV function is fun to use and worth the added increase in price. The 3D is the best i'v seen on any TV. Plasma is still the king of TVs. Way to go Samsung!!! By the way: NO BUZZING!!!
