4only if size matters
By reycer
I originally bought the Samsung 60 inch model 7050 from Costco and I was very impressed with the picture and overall quality; I did have issues with the Samsung; like I could not get the Audio Return Channel to work. Since I bought the Samsung we remodeled our theater room and the new arrangement allowed for a bigger display. I have been eyeing the 70 inch sharp I was hesitant to get the larger Sharp because I did not feel I would keep the beautiful picture the Samsung offered right out of the box. When I exercised the incredible Costco return policy I came home with the Sharp Aquos LC-70C8470U and wall mounted this beast on to a brilliant articulating wall mount. To say the least, the entire family was impressed with the size of this thing. It was not that hard to see that the picture was not the quality of the Samsung. The picture looked a bit soft and the color uniformity seemed less than inspiring. Knowing that I had 90 days to test out this new monster I did not waste any time calibrating the set with my copy of the Digital Video Essentials (DVE) HD Basic Blu-Ray disc. I spent a night and the next morning trying to dial this TV in to give it a fair chance of surviving in my home. The following are the values I came up with after calibrating with the DVE Blu-ray disc. I use a PS3 Slim for my Blu-ray player and the video signal goes through my Onkyo 709 receiver. I am not sure if all Sharp displays come from the factory with the same video quality, but if they do, people who buy this TV should try the settings I found to work pretty good. In the end, the picture quality improved. The softness and color was brought back closer to what the Samsung was. I still think the Samsung offered an overall better picture but for now I am close with the Sharp 70 inch and the Audio Return Channel works as it should. The internet apps all work really near perfect. I have stopped using the PS3 and Xbox to access any of the things the Sharp offers. 3D content of the Samsung was superior and the Sharp is not bad either. For those looking for size the sharp will work well after adjusting the picture quality. If 60 inches is big enough than go with the Samsung.Sharp Aquos LC-70C8470UCalibration settings:OPC: offBacklight: +10Contrast: +30Brightness: +3Color: -2Tint: +8Sharpness: 0C.M.S. -Hue: R- +6 Y- -1 G- 0 C- +16 B- -14M- -7C.M.S. -Saturation R- -3 Y- 0 G- -4 C- +14 B- -4M- -6C.M.S. -Value R- 0 Y- +5 G- +5 C- +7 B- 0M- -2Color Temp: Med-HighR Gain (hi): -30G Gain (hi): -3B Gain (hi): +3Motion Enhancement: AquoMotion240Quad Pixel Plus 2 (advanced)Active contrast (off)Gamma Adjustment: 0Film mode (advanced)Digital Noise Reduction (Middle)Monochrome (off)

570" of 3D goodness.
By D. Knox
The Sharp LC70C8470U 70in 1080p Quattron 3D LED LCD TV w/ 3D Compatibility delivers a jaw dropping Picture and Theater quality 3D. I really have never been a fan of 3D films. I thought "Hmm... headaches poor picture quality, etc." After seeing Capt. Eo and Honey I Shrunk The Audience at the Kodak Theatre in Disneyland, I wasn't impressed and got headaches from both films which are short in length." This is what I figured would have the same or worse results from a TV and poor 3D effects because of the small screen when compared to a proper theater. All I have to say is that I was pleasantly surprised by the excellent quality of the Sharp LC70C8470U 70in 1080p Quattron 3D LED LCD TV.I have read complaints about this TV because of the "Soap oprah" effect on the picture when you watch it. Yes when you have all of the enhancements enabled it is going to cause the effect. All you have to do is turn these features off and voila all of these picture problems are gone. There is a reason the TV features multiple image modes.Insulting the PQ of the TV because you do not know how to setup the picture modes is cheap, read the manual before you give a poor rating to the TV. And if you dislike the TV that much keep in mind that Amazon has a liberal return policy. Here is my personal setup: Bluray and HD channels on my cable box need all enhancements turned off, 480i SD is appropriate for turning on the enhanced modes. A hybrid works well for me when I play PS3Avatar in 3D, and all of the IMAX films are simply breathtaking. Even Micheal Bay's Transformers: Dark of the Moon looks fab. As a matter of fact only a few Bluray's look bad in 3D, namely Harry Potter 7 part 1, a film that was filmed in 2D and converted to 3D. If you have the cash, buy the Sharp LC70C8470U 70in 1080p Quattron 3D LED LCD TV, you will not be disappointed. My only suggestion is that if you are a Costco member, order it from their website. It is $3199 minus $400 online discount, and free shipping. As a final note: buy a TV screen protector at least 1/4" Lucite. My 3 year old cratered my last LCD Flatscreen TV by throwing a toy into the screen HARD. I also have read of many people doing the same when they have lost control of their Wii controllers or PS3 Move controllers embedding them into their poor TVs. A 2-3 hundred dollar investment in a TV protector will pay you back in spades if you have a hard object hit the TV. I learned the hard way.

55 Star Value
By CM Rater
I was looking to upgrade from sony SXRD 60XBR2, which has been spectacular since 2006. I just felt it was time to upgrade to a large LED Flat screen with 3D (for my grandson :)). Ever since the2012 CES, I had been waiting for the new Samsung UN65ES8000. However, between the horrible reviews of the 60" version and the whole ES line for that matter as well as the fact that a best buy magnolia rep called it their "worst" TV, I gave up on the ES despite how nice I thought it looked aesthetically. That said the Sharp look is also very attractive, encased in a classic black enclosure which looks great with my black Omni mirage speakers. In my search for the very best, I also came across the Sharp Pioneer Elite. I have seen great reviews of the Sharp Elite TV. I saw it at Best Buy, but they had its own special HD Blu Ray running in a separate area so it was difficult to compare to the others on display. Since I have noticed that the quality of the input makes a tremendous difference in the picture quality it made me feel that they didn't want a direct comparison. I am sure that it is a great TV as the reviews are great, but at a rather exorbitant price. While I could afford the $7000+, I simply couldn't justify the 3X cost vs the lc-70le847u. In fact, the other day I noticed that CNET had reduced the rating of the Sharp Elite from a 5 to a 4 star due to its excessive price and poor value. I'd be willing to pay 50-100% or so more for the ultimate picture, but not 3X. As I was finishing this review, Samsung just announced their UN75ES9000, a 75inch set selling for $9-10K. Looks very cool, but again at what price? Compare that to the top of the line 80 inch sharp (lc-80le844u) with outstanding reviews for under $5K. $9-10K for 5 inches less and shabby reviews for the ES line; are they serious?Back to the lc-70le847u. All in all, this TV is quite impressive at 70 inches. I have found that the quality of the TV picture is directly related to the quality of broadcast. There are scenes that are as sharp as you could possibly imagine and others where the resolution is simply poor due to the broadcast/camera quality and no TV can make up for that. Blu Ray DVDs are fantastic. Even normal tv looks 3D. On the other hand, I can see the "softness" factor referred to in other reviews, but not enough to affect my overall rating. I bought the Disney WOW Picture calibration disc and have adjusted the picture to a very satisfactory setting. In addition, another reviewer on Amazon provided some very helpful calibration settings which we were much better than the factory settings. I highly recommend you try his settings.I am extremely satisfied with this TV. I ended up buying this on Sears.com for $2,400 from a Bountii price alert. You gotta love some of the Sears sale prices. I am really glad that I got the extra 5 inches vs. Samsung 65ES8000 and for about $1400 less. If anything, I'd go bigger next time. The sharp has plenty of apps, and I thought that apps would be really useful. We use the Skype app but oddly enough I find that I spend most of my time watching TV programs and Blu Rays on what is after all, a TV. The 3D is great, but some 3D movies are much better than others(Journey to the Center of the Earth is amazing!). One reason I went with the extraordinary value of the sharp was that it didn't obligate me to amortize the value of a much more expensive set over 5-10 years to justify the investment. So I'll monitor the market over the next couple of years, and can buy another set if I choose as technology gets better and cheaper with the money left over. In the meantime I remain very satisfied with this set!

5Great Picture and Sound - Port Selection was interesting
By B. Hoak
This is a new model (out March 2009), and is the just released 'B' version of the popular, judging by the many reviews, samsung 'A' version 32 inch TV. I wanted a TV with an excellent value for a 32 inch TV with a good 720p picture and sound. The picture is actually fantastic and looks good on the standard setting and really stunning at the dynamic setting (if the room is light enough), and in the store looked slightly better then Sony Bravia S-Series KDL-32S5100 32-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV, Black even though that TV is a 1080p one. I did a visual comparison of the two for a while in the store becuase I was trying to justify going 1080p but couldnt since this picture seemed better even at 720p. If I could, I would have gone for the Sony BRAVIA XBR KDL-32XBR9 32-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV which looked the best though for a 32 inch overall.720p vs 1080p:I couldn't understand why a 1080p TV would make a difference with this size of TV, since I sit about nine feet away and at that distance I don't think you could tell - at least the PC input is small enough and sharp enough that I can read web pages comfortably from my couch but if it were any smaller it would be too small/detailed. I dont think I would use more than 720p detail unless I wanted to see more web page content on the screen and planned to sit about 4 feet away. The TV has exactly the same resolution asToshiba Satellite U305-S2804 13.3-inch Laptop (Intel Core 2 Duo T5450 Processor, 2 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, Vista Premium) which is what I plugged into the PC input and looks identical to that screen. Also, most Hi Def inputs to my TV aren't more than 720p anyway. I think one over the air station is 1080i.Standard DEF Input Handling:For 480i or standard def inputs at a non wide screen resolution, such as those from my cable box, it handles it extremely well. However, I have a digital cable box (verizon QIP6416-2) with an HMDI, component, svideo, and RCA even though the signal I get is only standard def. I didn't want to use up an HDMI port on the TV so I tried connecting the component but the color didn't work. This is an issue with the cable box, not the TV. I had to use the HDMI in the end since there was no s-video (a small negative for this TV) and didnt want to use the RCA. On the plus side, this TV has a great setting called wide fit/move that slightly streaches and zooms a 4/3 picture to fit the 16/9 widescreen. The move comes into play if you have channel that has scrolling text that becomes cut off at the bottom, so you can nudge the picture up a bit (which chops off the top more but you need to make a comprimose somewhere).Shines with HD inputs:When I hooked the component connections up to an HD upscaling DVD player Samsung DVD-HD860 Up-Converting DVD Playerthough that worked perfectly with the component connection. My beloved Roku Roku Digital Video Player box is using the 2nd HDMI connector which looks great, and the over the air antenna CLEARSTREAM2 Antenna brings in over the air free HD on about 20 HD channels. All the HD sources (laptop, antenna, roku, upscaling DVD) really shine. Sound is good and I don't feel I need to get add on home theater sound since I dont turn the TV up loud. I guess an extra HDMI connection would have been nice, especially since there was no S-video, but I still give the TV 5 stars as it is a new model and is thus forward looking.

5THE BEST LCD ON THE MARKET FOR ITS PRICE, PERIOD...
By James Wright
I badly needed a new television, and decided on a whim to head to best buy and see what was available. I hadn't been shopping for tv's in around 7 years, and from what I remembered that was when plasmas were amazing but all cost upwards of $4,000, and LCD, as a technology, just wasn't there yet. To my amazement the TV's in the store, even those well under $1,000, all looked fantastic. I settled on this tv after comparing it, endlessly, to other 32-inch models by Sony, Toshiba and LG. The Samsung had the best clarity, image depth and color. For only $550, this TV is gorgeous...standard cable looks good, DVD looks fantastic, and HD is just amazing. After initially thinking I wanted a 1080p HD, not 720p, I realized that in this size it just doesn't matter, and isn't worth the extra money. In all honesty, I felt like the 1080p image in this size television is a bit too sharp, a bit too bright and a bit too clear...it almost makes everything look like a cartoon or a video game. In the end, you really can't beat this television...the internal speakers sound great, it looks damn sexy in any room, and the picture quality makes you wonder why you paid so little...

5Excellent Buy! Excellent Brand! Excellent Quality!
By A. StJohn
Much like many of the other customers who purchased the Samsung 32" B Series LCD television, I too, did MUCH research before buying this television. After going to Target, Walmart, BestBuy, and various online stores, I decided to purchase the Samsung after MANY comparisons, and for only $499.99 at BestBuy.Between the price, brand name, and overall quality we can expect from Samsung, it just made sense to buy this television set over Sony. This television was bought with the intention of not spending more than $500 and having it perform at least above average for my bedroom.Upon looking at comparable televisions, the Samsung had an AMAZING picture. It was EXCEPTIONALLY clear and very clean, new, and expensive looking. The options were exactly what I wanted: Computer input, 2 HDMI cable inputs, and multiple component inputs. It was 720P but after speaking with many owners and doing more and more research, it just isn't worth the money to purchase a 1080p TV set ($700+) when you WON'T be able to tell ANY real difference under 40" television sets - THAT IS A GUARANTEED FACT!Hope that helped....

5Love this TV for the price
By Ekonomiks
Bought this TV from B**t B*y and it is awesome. The picture is great and speakers aren't half bad. But the best part about this TV is that it is under $1,000! Incredible value here. Zenith is now a division of LG, so there is no need to discriminate based off brand name. Zenith and LG tvs are essentially the same, just rebranded. If you don't need all the extra crap (internet connection, 3D, etc.) and just want a good picture, definitely go with this winner!!Note: Out of the box, the intelligent sensor is on. This makes the picture look very dark. I would suggest turning it off or turning it to low.Pros: Picture. Price.Cons: Menus. Not enough picture manipulation.

5Great bang for the buck!
By David P.
Bought it from B*** B** in late 2011 during a sale (with free home delivery) at a price that I have not seen there or anywhere else before or since - $799. Very Few bells and whistles, but I don't need them. I run online movies, sporting events, etc. from a laptop directly to the TV through the HDMI port. Reflections on the screen from windows during the daytime and from lamps are a bit of a PITA, but that's what they make curtains, drapes, and light switches for, right? I have gotten lots of compliments on the TV.Reflections on screen **Sound ***Ease of setup ***Pic ****Overall *** (at the price that I got it at ****)* Poor ** OK *** Good **** ExcellentAt anything less than $1000, I would be pleased with this TV, but at $799, I am REALLY HAPPY with it. :-)

5Wonderful TV
By A. Rhodes
We bought this at Walmart for $898. Well worth the price. The picture on this is amazing and you can be sitting at any angle to watch it and the pic is still clear. On some tvs if you had to sit to the side it would be hard to see the picture.Sound is great. NHas energy saving options. This plasma is way better than the LCD we bought. Lcd lets to much light in.

5Excellent plasma for a heck of a deal - but NOT 3D - essentially the same as the 550
By Just a guy
This is not as large as you might think. The overall size of this is nearly the same as my Samsung HP-S5053 50-Inch Plasma HDTV. The difference is that the old plasmas have a very large thick bezel and this has a very thin boarder - thus reducing its overall size.To be clear, this absolutely has full widescreen 16:9 capability. It is HD 1080p compliant. Some widescreen movies are shot in 2.35:1, so those will still have black bars at the top and bottom. Maybe this is what the other reviewer was referring to.The picture is very high quality here - much better than my 50" plasma. The blacks are very deep and I haven't seen any real evidence of ghosting. The features on this are very full, but I don't use my Plasma for much more than a simple monitor - I run everything through an AV receiver. I access Netflix and other web apps through my LG BD570 Network Blu-ray Disc Player. This is not 3D capable.Oh, by the way, a note on model numbers: The PN58C500 is really the same as the Samsung PN58C550 58-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV (Black), but was released for Black Friday deals with a new model number and - I believe - one less HDMI input than the 550. I believe it is otherwise the same set as the 550. This is not last years model. Last years models had a B instead of a C in the model number, ie. PN58B. . .Be careful to know who your seller is. I bought this when the seller was Amazon and got free shipping, not someone else. It switches back and forth from time to time.

5Great Value
By Nader
Wow! - what a great product. This 58 inch plasma TV is a a great value and provides a lot of bang for the buck. It is nearly identical to the PN58C550. It is short 1 HDMI input and maybe a color adjustment feature. The technical information on the web for this product is limited and often inaccurate. It does have an ethernet input, 3 HDMI (1 on the side), 2 Component inputs, 1 RCA input (on the side), 2 USB (1 - on the side), 1 Coaxial, and 1 PC input. It has PIP which is a nice feature, but works for the coaxial input only. Like any plasma there is some glare, but not annoying - Note I have it in a room with a bunch of windows. With regard to the product radiating heat or making a buzzing sound, well I have not experienced any problems yet and dont expect to. Other reviews for this product have suggested the volume is weak and frankly I have no idea what they are talking about. The TV is in a room that is about 20 x 20 with 20ft ceilings and I can hear it perfectly on volume setting 10 out of 100! There is a setting to adjust volume out of standard mode to either 'movie', 'clear voice', 'music', or 'amplify'. I have it on 'clear voice' and it is perfect. I also adjusted the viewing mode to 'dynamic' which makes the TV look a little brighter. Overall, I am satisified with my purchase and will be sure to update the review should I experience any issues with the TV.

5Superb Deal
By jmac
Incredible TV for the price. Essentially Identical to the PN58C550G1F. Reviews for that unit are applicable to this model as well. Great contrast and picture, sound is decent but not mind blowing. Some people mentioned the 'buzzing' sound from the speakers. I can hear it on mine, but it's faint. I imagine most people who purchase a TV like this will have a surround sound setup. The reviewer below who said it "does not support 16:9 aspect ratio" has absolutely, positively no idea what they're talking about. This is a 16x9 TV.Oddly enough, one of my favorite features is that there are no LED status lights when the unit is on. I can't tell you how distracting this is to me on other TVs. A small red LED is on when the unit is off, but powered.

5Impressive
By Jim Chou
I was looking for a secondary monitor to use with my HTPC to use at the breakfast table when I didn't want to turn on the big plasma, and thought this might be interesting because it's LED backlit (edgelit really) and had Netflix and some other widgets. It turns out to be really cool... good picture quality - not as much contrast ratio as a much pricier, larger TV obviously, but decent for casual TV watching, good colors and viewing angles. The Netflix support works really well, streamed HD over the wireless without any issues, apparently the same quality as my Roku HD box - that alone is worth buying it for. Some of the widgets are pretty useless (I'm looking at you, CBS), they're basically just ad channels, and I haven't found news that's more than two lines long. It would be nice if there were a web browser for it, or a dedicated NY Times app.The sound quality isn't bad for a TV... you'd get better sound adding some cheap computer speakers with a subwoofer, but I don't really blame the TV, it's so skinny there's not really room for decent speakers. All in all, quite a nice toy, great for a dorm or kitchen.

5Internet apps are a game changer.
By P. Chittiboina
I wanted a monitor for home office to connect to my Macbook Pro. Looked at monitors, and settled on the Vizio instead. This is an early review (bought it yesterday). The unit is very light and is easy to assmble (no tools required other than opposable thumbs). Connected to the network via LAN cable to Airport Extreme. The unit detected internet with no problems. The internet apps were available right out of the set-up process including some of my favorites like Pandora and Netflix. The internet apps allow me to watch videos off Netflix and listen to music without turning on the computer at all. I haven't used the unit as a monitor yet. Will update the review when the cables arrive.Pro: Light, good picture quality, direct internet connectivity.Cons: Painful to enter information from the remote, slight lag in moving between apps.Updates to follow.

5Great TV
By John W. Bacon
We have only had this TV for a week but we love this TV. It replaced an old TV in a bedroom that required a digital converter box. We hooked it up to a rabbit ears antenna, and followed the easy on-screen instructions to connect it to our wireless home network. We live in a metro area and with only the rabbit ears, we get a terrific picture. Besides the picture, one thing we especially appreciate is the automatic sound level control feature that probably all Vizio televisions come with. It stops commercials from blasting us. We haven't used the Web apps yet, but we would already recommend this TV to anyone for a bedroom or office.

3Many DON'T HAVE SAMSUNG PANELS - HUGE quality difference
By HopefullyThoughtful
Many of these TVs don't have a Samsung panel (the screen/the part that has/makes the image!)! I cannot believe this has not been mentioned. It makes a SUBSTANTIAL difference, because some panels they use should be in TV's that cost $100 less.[...]Can you imagine buying a car because you know its manufacturer uses great, reliable engines, only to find out that they use completely different engines without telling you, all of which are of lower quality? Samsung does this with their TVs, and some of them don't EVER have Samsung panels (e.g., the 37" model will NEVER have a Samsung panel because they don't make 37" panels). Samsung uses 4 different panel types from four different manufacturers - each with a substantially different technology. You can tell which panel YOUR TV has by the "Version" on the sticker outside of the box. There's also a sticker on the back of the TV; the "Version" code is below the Model number and above the S/N. BTW, reviews can't be interpreted without the four-digit Version code because they are quite simply different TV's. Here's how to interpret them:("x" means a number, probably from 1-4, that represents the version of that panel - higher means newer but not always better).TH0x or TS0x: Samsung S-PVA panel (possibly just a PVA, if you're less lucky): This is what you thought you were buying. Best color, best black, best viewing angles.HS0x: Sharp ASV panel: Lower contrast ratio, more narrow viewing angle. I read HS02 in particular has terrible ghosting.A_0X: AOU A-MVA panel: Even lower contrast ratio.CH0x or CM0x or CS0x: Chimea S-MVA panel: You lost the lottery. Markedly worse in every way - way worse viewing angle, color reproduction, etc. Just a terrible rip-off.Mine, from Amazon, is an HS03, so a Sharp panel. I will be testing it tomorrow (DVD and watching football - no Blu-ray). There is a decent chance I return it, because it is not a Samsung. Also? Sony and Panasonic do much less "panel lottery" and are vowing to stop entirely. LG does not do a panel lottery. Samsung has absolutely no plans to stop, and they only use "standards" that won't reveal a difference between the different panels.I will update after doing more testing. I just simply could not believe that this was not mentioned. Nothing like finding out you paid $500 (40" model) for a $400 TV when that extra $100 could have been used for sound, Blu-Ray, etc.**Other reviewers, please, update your reviews to give your version code!**More reading:[...]UPDATED 10/24/12: Added info on how to find version number without the box.

5Great TV after a lot of tweaking
By Gordon
If you're anything like me you see that this TV is labeled as LED; then you look at the picture and see a lot of fat for the usual Samsung LED depth. Make no mistake this is an LED TV. I got this for my bedroom to replace my 23 inch Samsung Syncmaster. I use this TV mostly for 1080 mp4 movies and blurays (I download what I want to watch instead of waiting for it on cable), and my Xbox and PS3.I learned 2 things about the TV right off the bat. If you have Comcast, you cannot fully customize the TV's picture. An essential feature called HDMI black levels actually looks much better when its set to low. I have 2 different Comcast HD boxes and since neither of them broadcast at 1080, this feature is locked out. Long story short, Comcast had me thinking I purchased my first dud from Samsung. Seriously, the colors look washed out and none of the channels really had that crisp clear picture I was hoping for. If you plan to use this solely for Comcast, I can't really recommend it. In fact, I've always found blu ray quality to be so much better than cable that I've stopped using cable for anything but football and cartoons. Movies MUST be in my PS3's blu ray player or my own 1080p files. The second thing I learned about is what the depth is for. Samsung didn't advertise this (or maybe its just my TV), but I have absolutely NO BACKLIGHT BLEED. When Black Ops goes to the loading screen on my Xbox, it gets so dark that I think the TV is off! The only indication that it is on is the Black Ops logo in the corner spinning. There isn't even the SLIGHTEST inkling of white anywhere! I'm not exaggerating. The obvious second reason why this TV is fat for an LED is that Samsung made an effort to improve the sound. When I turn on the HD surround coupled with the movie option, there is much more bass than I thought it would be. THe explosions in my games and the soundtracks in movies sound vastly better than I thought they would. Granted, I am not the type to go out and spend 600 on some Bose speakers, but the sound is NOT a con for me this time around.NOW ON TO THE PICTUREAs I said, I was not exactly thrilled with the picture RIGHT off the bat. It looked like my old 23 inch Syncmaster, just a lot bigger. Let me tell you, this is not one of those TV's that look great right out of the box. You have to toy around with the settings a bit to get the optimal picture. I wanted sharpness coupled with colors that pop like crazy.....and I got it. Dynamic is the brightest setting, but I coupled this with the HDMI black levels set to low (option not available for Comcast cable box) and voila, moving photographs! I'm not a pro but this is my setup:Mode: DynamicBacklight: 18Contrast: 85Brightness: 50Sharpness: 80Color: 70TInt: G/R 50/50Standard color tone with screen fit in the additional options, with HDMI black level set to low.My games and blurays look AMAZING. The picture is easily better than my mom's 46 inch Samsung up front. REMEMBER that some of the good options are cut off from Comcast and the use of component cables. In games, I do have to up the brightness or gamma a little, but it ends up looking BRILLIANT. I am going through my entire library of games and they feel like entirely new experiences! There is a 32 inch 720p option as well, but I just was not comfortable with 720p max. The new game consoles are gojng to have native 1080 so that's what I wanted. BTW did I mention I'm a big gamer?THE CONSWell I saw this TV up on Amazon before it was on Samsung's website. Yeah, WOW. Sometimes I wanted to see the TVs specs from Samsung directly before I made my buy. Make no mistake this is NOT a 120 HZ tv although it is labeled as one. I have no idea what clearmotion 120 is, but it makes my TV much darker. The feature is entirely useless and does nothing to the picture or add the "soap opera" effect like I had hoped (it looks great for games).WITH A COMCAST CABLE BOX I could see no difference between HDMI and component. I kept switching back and fourth, but since the max output is 1080i, there were no differences in picture. The last iteration of this TV had 4 HDMIs. What happened?VERDICTWith a lot of tweaking, I got the picture to look beautiful. I will use my Comcast box sparingly, but I might move to FIOS if the support full 1080. Watching movies on my PS3 and playing games on my Xbox stopped me from returning the TV. I will not be surprised if this set gets bad reviews from Comcast users (even though Its not Samsung's fault). I'm a "videophile" and this passed my personal test with vibrant colors.FEEL FREE TO ASK ME ANYTHING!

4Very pleased
By wfc
As a grandmother who is not as technologically advanced as the younger generation, I did have concerns about buying a television that had to be programmed and the stand installed before using. However, my fears were unwarranted. As soon as I turned it on, I was stepped through the programming and the stand or base was very simple to install. With the weight only being less than 15 pounds, I was also easily able to manuever it by myself. I was watching programs within an hour although younger people would have managed all of this in fifteen minutes. My initial reason for wanting a newer television was due to my waning vision so had been looking into the 1080p with a 32" screen for some time. I can't believe how much I can read on that screen now that wasn't clear to me before. I had been advised that Samsung was one of most trustworthy brands, but found them locally to be out of my price range. This one was reasonably priced and with my Amazon Prime membership was shipped to me free and quickly I might add.I am very pleased with the color and the sound plus the ease of use with the remote in case I do have to change the color or sound in the future. I'm not thrilled with having to adjust the size of the picture when going from watching a news program with written information at the bottom of the screen to watching a movie, but it is easy to do so will just have to adjust to that feature.

4Amazing TV, Almost Perfect
By E. Kirschner
To preface, this tv is a replacement for the UN55B8000 LED I had that malfunctioned. So this review should provide a good perspective for those debating between LED and Plasma like I was.Overall, the PN59D6500 is an excellent tv. It displays an amazing picture with deep blacks and beautiful colors. It just has a few issues which keep it from being perfect.Picture: The picture is great, especially for my primary usage which is bluray movie watching. In a dark environment watching a bluray movie I don't think any other tv out there can touch it. It's like being in a state-of-the-art movie theatre but better. The image is just so deep and rich. Really awesome. For this environment, it's no contest superior to the LED.During the daytime, it's a different story. I would say that the picture is very very good, but it's just not as bright as an LED. The whites on it are dull in comparison and you just don't get that pop that is easy to see at any Best Buy when you have a plasma next to an LED. So for this reason, if your primary interests are day time tv watching or sports, you may want to consider the LED. Not to say this tv isn't still great during the day. I watched some hockey on ESPN and the ice still looks plenty bright and white.Gaming: I have to give the edge to the Plasma here. Again it's not quite as bright as LED but it just presents a superior image with richer color. I thought God of War 3 looked great on the LED but on plasma it's just incredible. Feels like you're playing the movie 300 or something.3D Movies: I think the 3D on this tv is a great added feature. Now that they are giving away the glasses for free, everyone should be excited about it. However, it's an added feature, for me, not a reason to buy this tv. The reason for this is that while watching a 3D movie is awesome, it's not perfect technology. The sense of depth is awesome, but the image is too dim and there is noticeable flickering. I see this as something that will be cool to watch for those special big budget fx films (Avatar, Tron) but definitely not going to take the place of standard 2D viewing. I tried the 3d on Sony TV and it had equivalent amount of flickering. LG 3d doesn't have as much flickering but the picture is not nearly as good.3D Gaming: Also very cool but the technology is not up to par here. This isn't the tv's fault. PS3 is just not ready to deliver the goods here yet. In order for it to process 3D it has to cut the game's resolution in half. The difference is very noticeable, especially on a giant screen like this. Playing Killzone 3 3D, which is the flagship 3D title, the sense of depth totally enhances the game experience. The first time you line up your sight and feel like your target is yards away is really something. It's only afterward you notice that the graphics look like crap. The half resolution makes everything in the picture look jaggy, pixelated, and slightly shimmery. Almost like you're suddenly playing a Wii game. Again, it's still fun to try but I look more forward to seeing the 3D that PS4 can do.Buzzing: The number one complaint of plasmas, particularly samsungs, is that they have an issue with buzzing noise. Supposedly that was fixed on 2011 models. Well, it's still there, slightly. But it's faint. And only when the screen is completely black or mostly dark (like movie credits or night scenes). When this happens you notice the rise of a high pitched buzz. It's not very loud, not as loud as the ps3 fan. But it's high pitched so it cuts through everything else. Because it doesn't happen most of the time and it's not very loud, I have decided to live with the issue and usually will forget about it. A minor annoyance.Of course, that brings me to why I got this tv in the first place which is that the UN55B8000 I had had the well known problem of flashlighting in the corners. This caused a terrible black level and screen unevenness. Samsung Service was diligent and very professional about addressing my problem. On the 3rd service call they brought me a whole new panel. The new panel had the same problem but even worse. I was surprised when they called me and said they would give me a full refund. So nice job to Samsung service dept.I never got a useable LED tv so if you do decide to go that way, make sure you get one with no flashlighting.Overall, I definitely recommend the plasma over the LED. It just has a better picture, especially for watching bluray movies. If you don't care about that and mainly watch daytime television and sports, you may want to consider the brighter picture of the LED.

5Great TV. Best Value you'll find
By Stephen Wells
I think you would be hard pressed to find a better value on a 55-60 inch tv than what Amazon is offering. If you are like me you have narrowed your search down to 2 or 3 TV's and you are trying to determine which one will be perfect for your needs. I hope this review will help you in determining whether this tv is right for you. Before I pulled the trigger on this TV I had a few main concerns that I was worried about. *I was concerned about the Plasma Buzz that is normal for plasma TV's *I was concerned about the glossy surface being too reflective of the 6 windows I have in my living room. *I was concerned that the tv would not be bright enough for my circumstances since I don't have it in a darkened "theater" roomBUZZING: I have read horror stories about people who buy plasma tv's and complain about a buzzing that emits from the TV and makes watching/enjoying movies difficult. I am happy to report that, while there is a buzzing that I can hear when sitting directly in front of my TV at viewing distance, I can ONLY hear it when there is no sound coming from the TV (like during TV startup or while navigating silent menus like Netflix). When I first got the TV I tried to listen for it during movies, and at times I could hear it if I tried really hard during quiet scenes. When I don't try to listen for the buzzing, It is not a factor. I compare the buzzing to the fan noise on my xbox. If you listen for it it does exist, but when enjoying a movie or a game, it wont distract you.GLOSSY SURFACE: This TV went in our living room which has about 6 windows, and there are kitchen lights directly behind the seating area that reflect off the TV when the TV is turned off. When the TV is turned on, I have not noticed any problems. I do close the blinds on the windows though. Again, If I am looking for the reflections, I could probably distinguish them, but I have watched movies and played games in the middle of the day and I can't complain about the surface.BRIGHTNESS: Typically, Plasmas are not as bright as new LCD's. This TV replaced a 3 yr old LCD and it seems brighter to me. I can't compare it to the new LED back-lit LCD's because I don't own one, but this tv is plenty bright to enjoy movies in even well-lit rooms. No complaints here.Okay, so those were my main concerns. Now for some of the things that got me interested in this TV in the first place: The color on this TV is so even and consistent across the screen. There is now light bleeding in on the corners or edges. The black levels are super dark and crisp. I haven't done any calibration yet and sometimes colors do seem a bit over-saturated but again I am sure this is something that can be fixed with calibration. Those over-saturated scenes haven't been severe enough or frequent enough to make it worth my time to calibrate. The size of this TV is awesome...if you have seen a 60" TV next to a 55" you know that that 5(in this case 4) inches makes a big difference. Oh and it is only about 1.5" deep. This depth was big for me as I wanted something thin but I didn't want the flashlighting and light bleeding that plagues LCD's.Things that didn't influence my decision much: 3D. I am not a huge 3D fan--I think it is neat and fun, but I prefer non-3D over 3D 95% of the time. If I really cared about 3D I personally would have gone with a Passive 3D set since you can get 10 pair of glasses for $20 compared to $40 each for the Samsung active shutter glasses. I did watch Tangled 3D and the glasses bundled with the starter kit were pretty good. I didn't notice any flickering or anything like that and the depth of the 3D was impressive. The 2D to 3D conversion on this set was pretty week as expected. Smart TV. This TV has wireless connectivity and I really like that it can receive firmware updates automatically and wirelessly. I haven't used the apps much since I use my xbox for netflix, but the menu accessing, and browsing apps is pretty good.I think I have rambled on long enough. I guess if I could emphasize one point it would be that all TV technologies have trade-offs. The Plasma technology has weaknesses and imperfections. It also has a lot of advantages and strengths over other technologies. I do play a decent amount of video games, so the strengths of the plasma for gaming out-weighed the weaknesses. Hope this review helps.

5Why buy LED ?
By Tony
This TV is awesome. I conducted research on the LCD and LED T.Vs on the market and they don't come close to the picture this T.V has. Setup was easy and the TV looks amazing. The smart TV function is fun to use and worth the added increase in price. The 3D is the best i'v seen on any TV. Plasma is still the king of TVs. Way to go Samsung!!! By the way: NO BUZZING!!!
