5A MUST BUY! Best TV available! Beautiful picture, no CLOUDING & great SOUND!
By Jack Bourne
I had recently purchased the Samsung LN-S4095D 40" 1080p LCD HDTVfrom Amazon, but it had a good amount of back light issues exactly like the Sony XBR's. I have read that it sometimes goes away by itself after a few weeks of use. But after 3 weeks it was still cloudy. I shipped it back and received a full refund. I'd heard that the LNT-series of Samsung's were coming out in March and that the problem had been resolved. After many in store demo's at BB and CC by asking the sales associates to hook up a blu-ray 1080p DVD (luckily they all had "Happy Feet" so they were exactly the same movie compared) I product tested the Samsung LNT4061F 40" 1080p LCD HDTV, the LNT4065F, and LNT4066. Along with two Sony's that caught my eye Sony KDL-40XBR2 40" Bravia XBR 1080p LCD HDTV,Sony KDL-40V2500 40" Bravia V-Series 1080p LCD HDTV. All were within my price range. But the Sony V2500 wasn't even close to standing with the Samsung LNT's. The XBR2 is great, but watch out for clouding which Sony will NOT admit is a problem, I recommend googling the XBR clouding problem before buying from SONY. If you're looking for the best all around TV (price, sound, picture quality, no CLOUDING, hook-up versatility(3x HDMI)) then the LNT4065 is the perfect TV for you. It has hidden side speakers that sound very rich and full. If you already have a sound system and prefer a matte finish to your TV get the LNT4061. The LNT4061 has poor sound from its hidden bottom speaker, but the matte screen is excellent to prevent glare. The LNT4065 has a semi-gloss screen, which makes the 15K:1 contrast ratio look amazing! I haven't had any glare problems at all. The only difference between the LNT4065 and LNT4066 is that the 66 has a different chasis. The internals are all the same. I've confirmed this through extensive research. The 65 has buttons on the top of it, while the 66 has pressure sensitive buttons on the bottom left corner. Not worth the extra money to me. PS2 and Gamecube games look fantastic on it. I don't have a Wii or PS3 to try on it yet, but I'll submit another review when I do. This TV is so versatile. So many features for sound, gaming, and picture quality. You can adjust everything you want. LCD is the only way to go, with this TV you get the CR of plasma without the ghosting! This is the TV to buy!Big plus to Amazon. I bought the TV for $2199 and saw that a week later it was 1905 and they refunded the difference.JUNE 5, 2007 UPDATE: I purchased a PS3 and a Wii and both look fantastic! The 1080p HDMI 1.3 look crystal clear, I've played Fear(720p), and Ninja Gaiden (1080p). The 1080p upconverting that the PS3 does with the recent firmware upgrade makes all of my regular DVD's look great, and my PS2 games look just as good. The Wii only uses RCA but it looks great with 480i. Zelda and the Wii Sports look fantastic. Having three HDMI ports really comes in handy with a PS3 and DirecTV (HDMI 1080i).

5Excellent TV!
By Jason Freeland
After reviewing the traffic at avsforums on this TV and its competitors, I decided to go with the LNT4065. There were several comments about HDMI issues and still some clouding issues were reported with this model, but I took the plunge anyway. I am very glad I did - the TV is incredible. It is a pleasure to watch and brings life to all the material I have viewed on it.Some basics about my configuration - I have three sources that I view on this TV - a PC, an XBox connected via Monster component cables, and digital cable from comcast.Cable:The SD material is surprisingly watchable, and HD content looks fantastic of course. For the first time in recorded history, my wife actually chose to sit on the couch and watch a baseball game for an hour because it was such a spectacular visual experience.PC:Best computer monitor experience I have ever had bar none. Black levels not quite as good as the 19" trinitrons I recently donated to goodwill. But in every other way, unbelievable. Digital photographs are miraculous.Xbox:This was the real surprise. Games suck - not the tvs fault, its the lack of HD game content for the first gen xbox. But I primarily use the xbox as an A/V device with Xbox Media Center and when paired with this TV the experience is incredible. I purchased an Oppo 981 along with the TV and in side-by-side comparisons with the same SD-DVDs XBMC schooled the Oppo in upsampling quality. I was actually very surprised that the Oppo so clearly came in second place to XBMC - so much that I spent about a week scouring the internet for setting recommendations on the Oppo to make sure I wasn't missing something. All I can say is that it will be a LONG time before I go out and upgrade all my DVD stuff to HD.*Update: Well not that long it turns out. Planet Earth knocked me over in 1080p and single-handedly made the case for an HD player. So after wrestling with the format war for a couple weeks I went ahead and bought a Blu-Ray drive from amazon, and found an open box HD-DVD drive at circuit city for $90.00. Been really enjoying having both formats. Been spending a lot of time watching very nice looking movies. Some technical thoughts on the TV:- My TV displays some extremely minor clouding - we're talking nit-pick bigtime here (thanks for the OCD avsforums...hehe). I only notice it when these three stars align: 1) the room is completely dark, 2)the TV is displaying the completely black desktop of the PC display, 3) the backlight is set above 6 of 10. I find the whites disturbingly bright above this backlight level though. I am currently enjoying the picture quality and the backlight is set to 3 on all inputs (typically watch in a shadowed to dark room).- The glossy screen may be distracting to some, but I find it very enjoyable. Even when you are watching the TV and are not consciously seeing any "reflections" I think the gloss causes the eye to perceive the TV as a glass plane instead of the typical screen door film texture of LCD - which strengthens this TVs visual likeness to CRT displays. The same thing helps plasmas I think. Also, apparently this glossy coating has a component that also helps the contrast ratio or black levels or something - remember reading that somewhere.- Black levels are outstanding but shadow detail is still lost a bit. I am going to be honest - its very minimal but that is the only thing that remains a negative factor to the viewing experience. On DVD content the image transitions from the darks to black a bit too abruptly - instead of a smooth transition through the dark-color gradients. Put another way - imagine 10 is white and 0 is black with shades of gray in between. It appears as though the TV displays everything .5 and less as black. Maybe .25... not a distraction, but a very slight detraction - maybe results in my happiness being 4.85 stars out of 5. I will say that of all the LCD tvs I have viewed this TV handles blacks & shadows the best. It is definitely worth living with this minor flaw of LCD technology to get the perfection this TV exhibits in every other way.- This unit is the closest thing to Plasma as I believe you can get in an LCD tv at this time - without the unacceptable baggage that comes with plasma. I owned a 42" plasma that I returned because I wasn't interested in spending 3k on a TV and then having to live with the following crap: can't lay the tv flat (ie lay the box on its side so it fits in back of your SUV); TV weighs 90 pounds even though its a "flat panel"; static images that are displayed on the screen for a couple hours become "ghosted" faintly in the plasma's picture for the next couple days until the display phosphors loose the memory effect. Sure, the "burn-in" issue is fixed, but the ghosting thing is still real annoying. Whatever. To summarize: I couldn't be happier with this tv and feel it was well worth the purchase price. Amazon was a pleasure to buy from, and Eagle got the tv to me without any issues. A+

5It's not a plasma?
By Alex Garcia
When they delivered my LNT4065F I thought I had received the wrong TV. It looks like a plasma... By far, this TV blows all the other LCD TVs that I've seen. How many TVs can boast a 15000:1 contrast ratio. The colors on this TV are stunning. The "dynamic" setting is almost too bright at night. The blacks and whites show up very nicely.I am also surprised at how decent the quality is for upscaled DVDs (HDMI 1080i) and Tivo content. When in 1080p mode, the quality is almost too good. While watching "King Kong" on HD-DVD, the detail was so amazing that the people looked blue-screened against the digital backgrounds. XBox 360 looks absolutely amazing in 1080p mode.Although I use a surround sound system for my audio, my Tivo content runs the audio through the TV. The audio quality is very good for an internal system.Extremely minor complaint: The TV's internal sound system only does 2 channel audio. However, there is a digital optical out for connecting to a surround sound system. I have not yet found a way to pass 5.1 channel sound through the unit's optical out. So when I play DVDs, I mute the TV's internal sound. For the price, quality and features, this is a very minor inconvenience that's perfectly tolerable. The only complaints I had heard about older Samsung HDTVs were about the glowing blue Samsung LED on the front of the unit that could not be turned off. This unit fixes that with a menu option to keep off the external light. Nice!

5WOW - Get This Samsung LED
By A. Landry
Pros:Appearance:From the get go, I pulled thing out of the box, and I was impressed on the thiness. Next I put it on the bezel stand and put it in our armoire and was completely awed at the cleaness and style.Set Up:was a breeze, got on my WiFi right away, updated the firmware and away we went.Movies:I hooked up my media PC to it, with over 400 HD movies I have, I ran at least 10 movies on it. First I went simple, TRON with Auto Motion is crisp and clean and lifelike I do not know how you go back to regular viewing ever again. Next I tried 3D and threw in How to Train Your Dragon, and it was so clear and clean and had such good depth perception I was totally impressed.Color:I have a Plasma TV Panasonic 42" and this Samsung LED kills it, it bar non has better color and clarity without a second thought.Sound:Very clean and very strong however it lacks bass to be expected with its thinness, but sounds great enough to fill a 15x15 room with sound.Cons:The stand:comes out to far, its a nick pick but I wish at least in the front of it it was short so it didn't come out so far past the screen.Auto Motion Stuttering:I love, but if you are streaming, it will stutter every 20 sec or so if you don have a clean connection. Which I didnt, so I went out and bought a Netgear Powerline 500av and it fixed that issueFound here on amazon( amazon.com/gp/product/B004DVEW8I ).For those of you who do not know what Powerline is, its a way to extend your Ethernet connection through your power lines to any room in your house, my tv is down stairs, even though the WiFi is built in to the TV it was not strong enough to get 1080p without hiccups even on my Wireless N Router, due to interference most likely. I love auto motion, its the reason why I bought this TV.Flashlights:the term used to describe the LED light leaks in the corner of the screen in really black scenes, its not bad but its there.Smart Hub\All Share:has a long way to go, still to cluttered, most things cost money, and all share is a pain, your better off hooking a pc up and streaming from it, as all share does NOT play MKVs and has trouble with MP4s. It doesnt do a direct connect to it instead uses its folder structure and its a mess. Music and Pics all worked fine. All Share is not fluid and easy to set up as of yet.BottomLine:The TV software has some tweaks to really make it multimedia like most TVs are trying to pull off, and LED lighting issues are there but very small seems to be common however: this is a LED TV and it main purpose is for watching movies and video and I have a very nice plasma and I have seen the amazon show floor (called best buy) and looked at all kinds of LEDs and even Samsung very own 8000 series, and I still think this is the best of the line period, I am picking up a 55" soon of the 6500 to go in my media room, get this LED you will absolutely love it.

5So far GREAT
By AnObservation
I purchased this TV from Amazon a week ago and so far I am enjoying it very much. It is my 3rd LCD flat screen over almost as many years as they have been on the market. This is far better the one I purchased 2 years ago. The picture is outstanding, almost too good. Some people who watch it with me say it looks too real and not like a TV and shows detail you were not meant to see. I do not consider that a negative. The SMART TV variety of options including Samsung Apps are fairly good and extensive but sadly do not include Amazon which tempted me to knock the rating down to 4 stars. The set up and use of the apps and other features is not as intuitive as it could be and that probably does knock the rating down to 4 and half stars. Many of the Apps like with apple ipod you have to purchase, others claim to be free but after you connect you have to pay a fee.The caveat being I have yet to connect a 3-D source or buy the glasses. So I can not review that aspect of the TV. The picture in 2-D is very 3-D as you truly get the illusion of depth because of the picture quality and you do not have to mess with glasses. I will soon take the 3-D plunge and hopefully amend this review to include that aspect. But if you want a great picture in your bedroom, it is bright with tons of contrast and exceptionally sharp. It is quite glossy and those with light source issues may consider a less reflective TV to avoid reflected light on the screen.I purchased this just after it came out and the price dropped today. I have every confidence that Amazon who always has treated me better than any other retailer will live up to the price reduction guarantee. Again I will attempt to follow up with this review and let everyone know how that price guarantee worked for me.Additional information: Amazon informed me they have refunded the difference in price I paid and the current lower price on Amazon. I am so happy with Amazon for going beyond what any other retailer does.

5Great TV at a great price
By Alex Ivanov
Awesome TV! I was a little hesitant to buy it because of the lack of reviews, but really glad I did. This is Samsung's entry level 3D 2011 model, but the only thing indicating that is the price. I'm not sure if you can get a better deal on a 55" 3D capable LED TV.PROS: Looks awesome, 0.5" bezel makes it look great! WiFi is built-in, so no need to spend another $60 on an adapter.CONS: There really aren't any, besides being able to tweak a lot of picture settings which can be a burden for people with OCD :)

5My 3rd Samsung
By Robert P. Walker
This Samsung 37" HDTV was purchased for the bedroom. After having purchased a Samsung 46" model A650 I signed up for Direct TV satellite but could not get the same programs (HD) on my old bedroom set. I didn't want to spend a lot of money so I started tracking Amazons listings. Long story short. it's everything I wanted in a second set. The picture is perfect, the price was right with no tax or shipping charge. Excellent clarity. Love this set. I also have a 21" Samsung computer monitor.

5Great picture and reasonable price
By jray
I was looking for a smaller than 40 inch set for a bedroom and this tv is the perfect size. Relatively thin so perfect for wall mounting and the picture is excellent. While not up to the LN52A650 by Samsung (and nothing really is) for the price you will not find a better picture than this set. The menu's are easy to navigate. Operation is flawless and with 3 HDMI inputs its got plenty for most applications. This set is less in cost than the 550 model mainly because it doesnt have the side inputs which for me i dont use in the bedroom and would rather save the $100 or so odd dollars. If you wanted them later you could easily run a wallplate with them to a another location which actually makes for a cleaner install. Samsung is the best picture out there and is worth a few extra dollars. I fully expect many years of trouble free service from this set as thats been my experience with this brand. Also register online for their warranty and they add 3 months to the end of it at no cost just for signing up. Would buy this set again.

5Excellent TV
By R. Harris
We purchased this TV a few weeks ago, specifically because it would just fit in our existing TV cabinet. We have no complaints about this TV. The picture quality is excellent, the controls on the remote and the on-screen menu are both very intuitive. We had no problem figuring out everything about this TV without having to go through the instructions. The rotating base is convenient. The sound from the TV is good though we normally have it turned down and use the stereo.

5Easy to Set-Up, Beautiful Picture, Reasonable Price
By M. Hill
I am not an expert on LCD televisions, just someone in need of a new TV. It will ultimately be used in the bedroom, but for now it is in the family room. Although it is not a huge room, it opens to the kitchen and the ceiling is vaulted. For months I studied reviews of different models on the internet hoping to at least discover which manufacturers had the most service problems to avoid that aggravation, along with which brand had the best rated picture quality. I also visited showrooms to see what looked best to my eye. After my research I narrowed my search to a 720p TV because although 1080p of course creates a higher quality picture, it isn't as critical on a 32 inch TV or smaller. Since new televisions usually appear in March, my plan was to buy a discontinued model and take advantage of clearance pricing. Unfortunately I waited too long and the two choices I'd focused on were both no longer available. This TV met my needs, the price was right and Panasonic was one of the two brands I'd settled on.Light weight and easy to handle, out of the box all that was necessary was putting the stand together with a few screws and then attaching it with a few more to the television. I already had a composite video/audio cable which is good because Panasonic doesn't include one. The cable consists of three male plugs on each end -- one red, one white and one yellow. The red and white are for right and left audio and the yellow is video. There are ports on the back of the cable box and the TV with the same colors so it was easy to connect - video out on the cable box and video in on the TV. An extra step I took, in order to get my local stations' HD programs, was to hook up a basic inside antenna by screwing the antenna cable into the same named jack on the back of the TV. That gave me two advantages - I can see the HD content in full HD without increasing the cost of my basic cable plan - and if the cable goes out I can still watch TV.I put the batteries(included) into the remote control and turned the TV on. The first screen asked for language preference (English, Spanish or French), next the option to select viewing mode - home use or store demonstration. Then the adjust picture screen came up and I left it at the default "vivid" (choices are vivid, standard, cinema, game or custom.) The darkness of your room will dictate what looks best, and the defaults are easy to change by clicking on the remote -- menu, tools, re-set to defaults. Then it goes to auto channel set-up, but if you are using a cable box you select "not used." If using an antenna, select "antenna" and then select "start" to scan the channels. Next is an option to label each of the inputs for - antenna, DVD player, cable box, etc. Then a screen appears to adjust the clock for the year, month, day hour and minute. The completion message is then displayed and you're done. The TV can be hooked-up to a PC so it can be used as a monitor. I missed an episode of 24 during the Olympics. The network website permits viewing of the current season's episodes so I simply connected the HDMI cable from my laptop PC into the television's HDMI port on the back. That allowed me to watch the missed episode on TV rather than my small laptop screen. The speakers are one-way 10 watt speakers and are typical of built-in television speakers. Note that there is no analog audio output or headphone jack. There is an optical digital audio output jack. I did not hook-up a receiver and separate speakers to improve the audio, at least not yet, but if superior sound is a concern, you will probably want to explore the possibilities. The picture is absolutely fabulous and amazingly enough even when viewed at a severe angle, there is no quality degradation. My only complaint is that the volume doesn't change significantly as you increase it. The TV has an adequate maximum volume setting, but if the setting is at 30 and you want it a little louder you might have to go to 60 before you notice an increase in sound. The increments seem too small. The TV has a shiny "piano" black case which some people feel is a maintenance problem, but fingerprints and dust wipe up beautifully with a microfiber cloth, and I like the appearance. The set comes with a twelve month warranty, but I bought an extended warranty for an extra two years from square trade since this is a new model and as such has no history. I have been using the set for two weeks and so far it is completely trouble free, and I am very pleased with the purchase, but I will update the review if I experience any problems.

5Great HD TV at Bargain price

Bought this Panasonic Viera TCL32C22 at PC Richards, a NY/NJ area appliance shop. Floor price was $399, but I paid $349.Let me start off by saying I own a video production company, so I sit in front of televisions all day. When HD TV's first hit the market, I was unimpressed with the image quality. At close scrutiny, most HD TV's that I've seen have horrible artifacting, due to the MPEG-2 compression used to transmit signals. After hooking it up to my FIOS HD box using an HDMI cable, the first channel I put on was YES network, because I know that NY Yankees games are broadcast in high definition. I was extremely impressed with the image clarity and the color. There was no visible artifacting, even when sitting a few inches from the screen. I surfed through the high-def channels and found varying degrees of images. Some channels just stretch the picture and slap an "HD" logo on it, so you really need to look at a high-def broadcast to judge it.My next step was to connect a DVD player using a set of Analog component cables. I choose two DVD's: the BBC "Planet Earth" series because of the wonderful photography it includes, and the Hollywood movie "There will be Blood," for both the photography and sound."Planet Earth" displayed in widescreen mode on the DVD/TV combination without me setting anything. From ten feet, the pictures were gorgeous. The color was rich and vibrant. At screen-side, black blockiness was apparent; but when I sat a few feet away the MPEG-2 artifacting disappeared.I loaded "There will be Blood" into the DVD player. The picture looked great and the sound was fantastic. For a more detailed review, visit my blog: [...]UPDATE JULY 22, 2010Had an intermittent problem, wasn't sure if it was the Blue Ray player, the FIOS box or the Panasonic monitor, but finally figured it out. Sometimes, after the monitor has been on at least a few hours, the audio goes nuts. I can't even describe what it sounds like, the dialogue drops to about 10% of the sound, with a distorted, over-modulated audio echo of the same dialogue (or whatever else is playing) taking about 90% of the soundtrack. That means you can probably make out the dialogue if you listened really carefully, but who wants to watch a program under those conditions? At first, I thought it was my DVD player. I recently bought the Panasonic Viera Blue Ray player (which, incidentally, is not 100% remote control compatible) and found I still occasionally had the problem watching a DVD. The problem also occurs watching Netflix videos streaming via the Blue Ray player.Turning the monitor off, then back on, clears the problem. Only, you have to make sure you turn off the monitor using the FIOS remote control, because the monitor remote also turns off the Blue Ray player (resetting the blue ray disc to the top menu).Haven't decided yet if the problem is bad enough to get me to return the TV. I haven't got the box, and I'm sensing a lot of hassles from the dealer . . .

5perfect for first timers with limited budget
By newtv!!!
if you are transitioning from crts, this is perfect. i got this at best buy for $300 and it's great. if you are all about settings and black levels and all the mumbo jumbo out there, this might not be it for you. but if you want a no hassle, plug-in-and-go tv, this is it. find an hd sports channel and you'll see it's worth every penny.i was comparing this model with an similar lg and chose panasonic strictly for the price ($75 less when i bought the panasonic). also, dont be blinded with all this talk about 1080p, with a tv this small (compared to 50"-60"), 720 won't ruin your tv or movie experience. use that extra $100-$150 and buy a blu-ray player or a new tv stand.

5Awesome TV
By N. Wheeler
I love this TV. It has great black levels without losing details. Seriously the blacks get as dark as the bezel in a darkened room. Great color accuracy. Handles motion like a champ even converting 2D to 3D. Menus are very responsive and even the widgets are snappy. Samsung Apps/Netflix works great too. I am really having fun with the 2D to 3D conversion watching sports and playing video games. I watched Avatar the other night, and even though it wasn't released on 3D Blu ray, the built in converter made it look great. I was nervous about Burn In/ Image Retention, but so far watching 2.39:1 movies hasn't caused any issues that don't take care of themselves switching video sources. I need to say that there is a buzz sound, but its pretty quiet. Can't hear it at all with any audible tv volume. My only major beef with this set is the Audio Return Channel and Optical Out only send 2 channel (stereo) audio unless its source is broadcast. So, my PS3 and cable box will only play dolby directly through my receiver - which in my opinion makes ARC pointless. I hope they change that in an upcoming firmware patch. This TV replaced a UN55B8000 because I was unhappy with its blacks losing details, motion blur, flashlight effect, and sluggish menus and widgets. I experience none of these problems with this new set. I couldn't be happier.

4Worthwhile TV.
By Ishmon
I bought this exact model the PN50C8000. One might get the impression that it is silver. I'd call it a dark grey brushed metal look. Which is fine IMO.One thing that is not often publicized for some reason is the fact that plasma's are not even close to as bright as newer LCD models. This worried me a little. But when I got it; it took some tweaking but I was able to get exactly the color/brightness I wanted for normal viewing and 3d viewing. All 3d glasses are tinted so it's good to have a very bright setting for when you view 3d.Electronics review websites always talk about how plasmas can do extreme blacks. I set it to where the blacks are on the darkest setting. Honestly I was surprised that the blacks are not all that dark (note this is my first plasma I'm not comparing it with other plasmas). The 8000 series LED LCD Samsungs seem about the same when it comes to blacks, of course I have not seen both inside my living room environment so I can't make a perfect comparison. I don't actually care; either tv would be dark enough for me. I just thought I'd point this fact out.The primary reason I bought a plasma over a 8000 series LCD has nothing to do with price or darkness levels, it was for superior 3d viewing. 1.) Less eye strain. I have read on more than one electronics site and electronics magazines that the 600hz viewing of plasmas (and the way the image is drawn on the screen) has been proven to provide less eye strain for 3d viewing. 2.) Viewing angle is always better for plasma over LCD. (This is important for 3d because loss of lighting and clarity is a big deal when you are already limited by the glasses.) 3.) Clearly there is a issue with mixing LCD tech with 3d since if you tilt your head the image splits apart. (This DOES NOT happen with the plasma) and 4. All the reviews I've read say plasma's have tested better for 3d viewing. My complaints are minimal but I think they justify giving 4 stars instead of 5. One is that the TV decides to turn off 3d mode on it's own if you for example exit a Playstation 3 game or change to another input. I understand their reason for doing this but I prefer to just have manual control of it on my own. Also I couldn't get the red and white audio out ports to work, even when I selected to switch to alternate sound output. I suspect it was just something I was doing wrong but it shouldn't be something that requires much effort. I gave up on that because I also had the choice of optical or using the headphones port for my audio so it wasn't a big deal. Another minor complaint I have is the stand is particularly heavy. Obviously it's good to have a sturdy stand but they could have made it strong and much lighter weight and I don't think it would have made for any greater risk of the TV tipping over or something..On a side note; when manufactures say that you should sit closer for optimal 3d viewing than normal viewing they mean it. I'm glad I didn't get any smaller than 50 inches. For optimal 3d immersion I found I like sitting just 5 feet from the screen. For normal viewing I sit at about 8-10 feet from the screen.

5Pleased after lots of research
By Erichb101
I have been researching 3d plasmas for about 3 months. This has to be the best picture quality I have ever seen. I was debating between 3 3d plasmas. Panasonic v25, samsung pn50c7000 or 8000. Even the 7000 got an excellent rating on cnet. what kept it from getting a perfect rating is featured on the 8000. I consider myself a serious videophile and this one does not disapoint. The main diffrence between to 7000 and 8000 is fine tuing of color. and motion judder canceller. This tv has a 2,000,000 to 1 higher contrast ratio. For the price compared to the panasonic it is far better. More apps, and on par picture quality. I have this TV calibrated providing a incredible picture. these settings are below. Do not hesitate to buy this TV. Here is also a review that should help with choices. 5I Luv this Great TV
By R. McLaughlin
I bought this a few weeks ago from the local big box (Amazon didnt offer it for sale yet). Did extensive comparisons with the Panasonic 3d TV but bought this one because it is thinner and I might want to eventually mount on a wall. I did notice that Aliens vs. Monsters does have some halo effect where sometime when something very light is next to something very dark it is like there is a smudge around the item (in the movie it most often occurs with the bleach blonde hair of Susan when she is in front of dark background, or around the moon at the beginning). This really bugged me. However, there is no other 3d source material to watch yet, and you cant even use the panasonic 3d demo as it wont work with the samsung tv, so I cant otherwise comment on this rare effect. It does not occur in 2d to 3d conversion or in 2d ever. The screen has some glare when viewing dark material in daylight, but otherwise the TruBlack does a great job of reducing glare, and 3D glasses reduce glare by 50% as well. I rarely notice glare at all, which is surprising for a plasma.Other than the rare halo artifact (which is not visible on the Panasonic demo, but I havent seen Monsters vs. Aliens on the Panasonic tv) the tv is virtually flawless. Put in a quality blueray source and the picture is a knockout. Try King Kong, or Pirates of Caribean. Wow. I gaurantee you have never seen such a quality picture ever before. Then, as there isnt currrently any significant 3d source material, try the 2d to 3d conversion (not available on the Panasonic). Wow. It does not have quite as much depth as made in 3d, and sometimes the 3d is not absolutely perfect, but it is amazing. I just watch 2d to 3d all the time and cannot figure out how they do it. The only thing that is annoying with the 2d to 3d is when multiple lines of text are on the screen, each line of text will be given a different depth apparently randomly which is a little wierd, especially because usually it should all be in the same plane. People, scenery, sports, playstation games, etc. all look great--it just does a superb job of extrapolating the 2d into 3d. Love Call of Duty in 2d to 3d. It is like you are there.I do think that when viewing in 3d you want to be closer to the tv than you would be ordinarily (and many others feel the same). You will also want a bigger screen than you would ordinarily want for 2d. Otherwise, it is like you are looking through a window at a 3d world. I have a home theater room with 100 inch screen and cant wait to get a 3d projector (not available yet in 1080p), but would recommend the largest 3d tv that you can afford, and 63 inches to me is only a half as large as I think is optimum.Sony and LG are supposed to come out with 3d tvs this June in time for the ESPN 3D launch for World Cup Soccer. As they are LCD based systems they are inferior to the plasmas of Panasonic and Samsung because of the much lower refresh rates. The professional reviewers who saw them at the consumer electronics show in Las Vegas commented that they were not as good as the Panasonic and Samsung.Only things I dont like about the tv besides the occasional halo effect: The stylish remote will only control samsung components, and it annoyingly does that. For example, each time I turn on TV it turns on the samsung blueray player as well which automatically starts playing. I only wanted to watch TV. Rubbish. Plop down a few hundred extra dollars and get the Harmony One remote (but the other harmonies are all crap). Youll be glad you did. Also avoid the Samsung receiver, it is known to have a lot of problems. Pioneer carries the only other HDMI 1.4 receivers at this time that I am aware of and it works fine for me, although not truly necessary unless you want to pipe the HDMI through the receiver on the way to the TV.Overall this TV rocks. The 2d and 3d pictures are stunning. The glasses are more comfortable than the Panasonic's. The TV is only an inch thick compared to 4 inches for the panasonic which makes it look like it is from yesteryear. If you are going to wall mount for this reason alone get the Samsung. The LED tvs all suck compared to the plasmas for 3D (although the LEDs are reportedly a little lighter, brighter, lower energy, and better ambient light control all these advantages are slight and the difference in 3d picture quality is large).Get this TV, you will be glad you did as it is the best of the currently available choices, unless you can wait a year for 3d 1080p projectors and have a dedicated dark room for the projector.Yes, there is almost no 3d source material currently, but the 2D to 3D conversion alone makes it worth it.One more note about the 3 channels coming for 3d (ESPN 3D, Discovery 3D, and the third I forget). All cable boxes currently in existance have HDMI 1.3. This wont carry enuf bandwith for 3D, so you can only view 720P picture in 3D as I understand it. I will update post in mid June when view these 720P 3D on ESPN 3D. So far, DishTV and Comcast have contracted to become carriers for ESPN 3D but noone else. Hopefully, 3D TIVO and cable boxes will come soon, as well as more movies besides just Monsters vs. Aliens. Mid summer is release of playstation 3D upgrade, and 3d games should shortly follow, but because of the HDMI 1.3 jack on PS3 these also in 720P only.6/15/10 Update:I still love the TV. World Cup Soccer on ESPN 3D is very nice in 3D, (but had to get new cable box from Comcast (have to have one that works with HDMI output, not coaxial output). Shows shot in 3d definately have more depth than 2d to 3d conversion. The 2d to 3d conversion has occasional problems, like in hockey it couldnt understand the ice and makes the ice as a backdrop with the players flying through the air. Works great most of the time, but frankly becomes a novelty after a while.Almost all brands of receivers now out with HDMI 1.4.

3Buzzing ruins an otherwise excellent TV
By skooba
I've had this TV for 3 days now. I'm not going to go into great detail on the picture quality, because other reviews have commented on how good it is. The purpose of this review is to be a data point for a buzzing set. I have the latest firmware, the ferrite cores installed around the power cord, and the tv is sitting away from the wall. It BUZZES, plain and simple. If you're anywhere in front of the TV itself, it can be heard. If you move your head beyond the bezel of the TV, the buzzing goes away almost 100%. I sit 15 feet away and can clearly hear it during low volume. I'm trying to keep the volume loud enough to drown it out, but during quiet scenes I hear it. It's a very high pitched frequency. My parents cannot hear it (56 years old), but I clearly can (27 years old). My girlfriend can hear it but she says it doesn't bother her. It bothers me, to the point where I am not enjoying the TV.I contacted ABT (one of the sellers listed here on Amazon) and they simply state "all plasmas buzz." While that is true to an extent, they don't buzz like this model. Both of my brother's have plasmas. One is a 58b550 that doesn't buzz like this, the other is a 60" Pioneer Kuro that doesn't buzz like this. I have a Samsung tech coming out soon, but I'm fairly confident on what will be said, either a) it's a normal sound or b) I'll need a complete new panel. I don't want either. I want to return the set and exchange it for the same model with hopefully a newer build date to see if the issue has been addressed. If not I'll move on to a different TV.If you aren't able to hear extremely high frequency sounds, then you'll fall in love with this TV. If you can hear it, and you have the TV positioned so you sit in front of it at eye level, it will bother you. If you mount it above eye level so that the bottom of the bezel is above your eyes, you will not hear it.I really wish this set didn't buzz. It's an awesome TV aside from the horrendous noise it emits. It's sleek, attractive, runs cool in comparison to other plasmas, decent black levels, excellent color reproduction, great video processing, but oh man, the buzzing.I hope this review helps others to make sure beforehand that they can/can't hear this type of buzzing. Hopefully it will save you the headache that I am currently going through.

5Best TV I have ever had
By K. Burke
I bought this tv to replace my Sony 52" XBR4 (Which was great when it first came out) becuase I wanted the new 3D technology as well as well as a good HD TV. This is my first Plasma TV. I have 4 other LCD TVs that work great but I was really impressed witht he picture of the Plasma. The black are definately blacker than my LCDs. For a general HD TV it has the best picture out of all my TVs and it is also one of the best I have seen on the market. The internet on the TV is pretty good. It was easy to set up. I am using it directly connected to my router so it is wired. I did not fell like paying $80 extra dollars for the wireless adapter plus I had a Gigaswitch located in my rack that was easy to run a cable. The apps for the internet were quite responsice to my surprise. I though there would be a long lag time but that was not so. You have access to sports scores, weather, YouTube and Netflix just to name a few. I did notice a buzzing noise at first as mentioned in other reviews but it was only there when I initially installed it and now it its no longer there. Now onto the 3D. I demoed it at the store and I was pretty impressed. It was on a 47" or 52" LCD I think. It was not until I got the 63" in my house that I was blown away. The 3D on the plasma was so much better. The picture just looked like it was going to pop right off the screen. I was really impressed with the 2D to 3D function of this tv. It actually works. It may not be the best but it works quite well. Yes you do look silly wearing the glasses but they felt really comfortable. I wear glasses and the 3D glasses fit right over them nicely. I did not get dizzy or get any headaches.I wanted to clarify some information about setting up a 3D system. when going to some stores i was given some wrong information. I was told that I would need to buy all the same brands for all the equipment needed. So I would need to buy the Samsung TV, Glasses and Blu-ray player. I knew that I need the TV and the Glasses to be the same but the Blu-ray player does not. I wanted to purchase the Panasonic Blu-ray player becuase it had the duel HDMI ports on it so that I would not have to upgrade to a receiver that has HDMI 1.4 to get the HD audio. I did purchase the Panasonic blu-ray and it works just fine. This is the way to go if you have an older Reciever with HDMI Switching and you want to get Dolby Digital HD and DTS Master Audio HD from your Blu-ray player.I would definately recommend it to anyone.

5My first HDTV, no regrets
By JC
After 4+ months, TV still rocks. Though I'm somewhat hampered by Time Warner HD, with an abysmal selection of channels, I'm still very happy with my purchase. The only thing I've had any second thoughts about is whether I should have sprung for the Elite, at about a grand more. Pioneer kind of screws the consumer this year with the base line Kuro (6020 and 5020) as they remove all of the second level of picture adjustments). But still the TVs performance is terrific. I have, however, had the gray scale professionally calibrated. It cost me a few hundred bucks and you need to make sure the person who is doing it has the appropriate software and has done a few of these before. And while the results are subtle, I can notice them. There is an improvement. Can only be done in movie mode, but improves the gray-scale and colors to some extent too. It just creates a more natural tone to the picture and removes a bit of the "haze" or "reddish/yellow tint" as I like to call it. Well worth it if u can find a good technician**************************************************************************I have been researching HDTVs for what seems like forever, until this month when I finally pulled the trigger. You cannot go wrong with this TV. This is my first HDTV, but I consider myself fairly tech savvy and somewhat of an audiophile. That said I don't have any history with HDTVs so can't compare this TV with anything I've owned in the past, but rather friends' TVs or in store comparisons. The negatives on this TV are as some may have already discovered; an inability to more finely calibrate this TV yourself, unlike the 5080 of last year or the Elites. That was kind of a downer given how much you pay for it. On the flip side, if you have it calibrated, I believe the professional can adjust these settings. Not 100% sure yet, but I may give that a shot at some point. Why would you want to adjust these settings at all from the way they come out of the box? Well, according to a few reviews, as well as the CNET review, Reds and Greens are not 100% accurate. This may be difficult to determine through the naked eye of most viewers. But I can say that Reds appear a little heavy to me. Greens look fairly accurate to me, but again according to CNET they were off a bit too. We are not talking about anything that is a deal breaker here by any stretch. Ask someone with an untrained eye and they'd probably wonder what the heck you're talking about. Anyway these are about the only negatives about this TV that I can find, if you consider them "negatives." Assuming you have it calibrated, then there are NO negatives to this TV.Positives are many. Outstanding picture quality, and probably the best SD picture you can find or have ever found from an HDTV. Far better than what I've seen on any LCD thats for sure. DVDs scaled to fit this picture look almost HD. HDTV content is outstanding. You cannot find better black levels. The Panasonics have really improved their sets, but still the Pioneers are better, you can see the difference even if it is subtle.Another thing to note, when I first got this TV, for the first week or so, I was worried that the picture was just a little dark. Plasma is definitely darker than LCD, and I thought hey, you can't have the best blacks and brightness all in one TV right? True, sort of. What you need to do after a break-in period (I have no idea whether break-in is even necesary on plasmas anymore, but some do) is set the TV to Movie Mode, then calibrate from there. Movie mode produces a brighter picture. I think most people are so accustomed to a super-bright set (read: LCDs) that produce very inaccurate pictures and tones that Movie mode might look dull to them at first. Your eyes will adjust, trust me. And you will slowly realize that once calibrated, the Pioneer produces a picture that is about as close to a movie theater screen as you can get.Once in movie mode, use the following settings:Contrast: 38Brightness: -1Color: -5Tint: 0Sharpness: -15Pure CinemaFilm Mode: AdvanceText Optimization: OffPower Save Mode: OffOrbiter: Mode 1 (All screen size modes except Dot-by-Dot)Mode 2 (Dot-by-Dot screen size mode ONLY)Feel free to tweak from there as you feel necessary. But that is the so-called reference setting; I assume what a technician would set to produce the most accurate picture.Once you're set in this, again, give it some time for your eyes to adjust to it, and you will see a truly outstanding real to life image. Film content is about as close to a move screen as you will get in my opinion.Other cool features are 1)An optical output for audio 2.)Home networking feature to display Videos and Pictures from your PC right on your plasma. This works very well and is pretty intuitive. 3.) Great sound right out of the factory speaker. 4.)A very nice stand that is already attached.I was recently in a Best Buy and looked at the new Panasonics, which are very good, side by side with the Pioneers. But I still think the Pioneer produces a better picture overall. I haven't seen a calibrated Panny, so not a perfectly fair assessment.Hope this helps, good luck!

5Pioneer 5020 is the best!!!
By M. Kang
Just got my 5020 last week and this is the best TV that I have seen. I did a lot of research at high end stores and the side by side comparisons with the older 5010 model vs. any other tv (lcd or plasma) wasn't even close. I was looking at the newest Samsung plasmas and LCD's (Toc) but the black levels on the Pioneer really made a big difference. I even asked my 10 year old son to pick the tv with the best picture and he chose the Pioneer. I really wanted to buy the Samsung LCD (Toc) but couldn't get myself to do it knowing the Pioneer's picture was better. I think I would have regretted it later. The 5020 is thinner than the 5010 and has the newest HDMI 1.3a inputs. I hooked this TV to a brand new Onkyo 606 which is HDMI 1.3a compliant, Time Warner DVR, and a PS3. All I needed was 3 HDMI cables for the entire system. This TV has the best black levels i have seen which makes the colors really pop and gives more depth to the picture. The TV makes the high def content more 3 dimensional. At this price, you can't go wrong with this plasma. In addition, this will be the last year that Pioneer makes their own screens.

5Great choice for videophiles that aren't video-nuts!
By RonH
I looked for around 6 months for a new HDTV to replace a Sony XBR1 40" I've had for several years. After spending way to much time reading CNETs reviews, I settled upon this TV.The performance is excellent. It certainly has better image quality than my Sony LCD, both when watching movies (due to the excellent contrast), and when watching fast moving basketball, in which my sony LCD would occasionally have motion artifacts. I think much of the LCD motion artifact thing has gone away with high end LCDs these days.If you are a video nut that wants to change every aspect of the settings, you need to get the elite model, which is basically the same TV, but with all the settings opened up. You only get basic settings with this model. However, it has a mode that I personally like called "Optimum", where the TVs sensors detect what type of picture is being displayed along with the ambient room conditions and adjust accordingly. So far I've left it on that and it has been great. I have also played with "Movie" mode, in which you get about 50% of the controls on the picture that a typical high end TV might have.Aesthetically, this TV looks perfect. The plain back bezel that is very small for this size of TV is exactly what I was looking for. Some of the Sony's for the past 4 years and most of the LGs and Samsungs have just got too much going on. I want a perfect picture and a minimal "TV". In addition, this TV is very thin for a 50" plasma, it is only 3.7" thick. My 40" LCD was 5.5" and the new sony XBR8 LED backlit LCD is almost 6" I believe. In a store I compared this TV to the Samsung A950 series (LED backlit LCD) and the Sony XBR6, both 46" models. The Pioneer was cheaper and just looked better hands down. I went back on 3 occasions to confirm this was the case. Some people will discuss buzzing with this particular unit. From what I have found out, all plasmas buzz. On this unit, if you put your head behind the tv, you can hear some electronic buzz. If you put your head in front of the TV, you can not hear anything, even with the TV muted. If you move your head about 5' back from the TV and have the TV muted, a slight buzzing becomes audible. If you turn on any volume whatsoever, you can not detect the buzzing. Actually, the fans and hard disk in my DirecTV HR21 DVR are louder than the buzzing!I have been using power save mode 2 (the highest power save mode), which makes it meet the energy star requirements of the future, and it has plenty of brightness! We'll see how this holds up as we move through the break in period. The big question many of you are probably asking is should I order from amazon and save almost $1000 over best buy or other big box store? My first HDTV I purchased from a locally owned specialty retailer. It gave me the confidence I needed since I knew little about HDTVs at that time. They offered a 15 day no questions asked return policy. For this Pioneer purchase, I went with amazon.com and saved $1000. Shipping was free. Amazon will contract this to CEVA, who will contract the delivery to your home by another local delivery agent. My TV arrived within 3 business days. It went from Ohio to Chicago in the first day I ordered it, and then was in Milwaukee to be delivered the next day and an appointment was set up. However, when the delivery guys showed up, I asked them to remove it from the packaging so I could plug it in and make sure it worked before I accepted delivery. The bezel was cracked and the screen damaged before we even got it out of the box. So I easily refused shipment and the delivery guys took it back. I contacted amazon and once you get beyond the india help desk and to a real agent who specializes in electronics returns I was all set. A new unit was sent 3 days later (with a total of about 1 week delay) for no charge. I think in the future I would order online from amazon.com again for the cost savings they provide. Although it was a hassle to be at home twice to have the TV delivered twice it was worth the savings for me. I believe you can also return to amazon within 30 days as well if you change your mind, but shipping cost is yours to pay.
