5Great Buy
By Stephen Howland
The value you get for the price of this tv is second to none. I just recently put this tv in my house replacing an old rear projection tv and i am amazed at its color accuracy. I did find my self making a few tweeks from the factory settings but once you get it to where you like the picture you'll fall in love. Sports and movies shine on this set. I preferred the plasma over the lcd because the movement on the tv was much more natural than the 120hz lcd displays. I sell T.V.s at sears and after being around both for a while I find the plasma image much easier and natural to look at. I chose Panasonic because they seem to have mastered the plasma technology and even a Samsung rep told me that he preferred Panasonic's plasma to Samsungs plasma. I will admit to liking some of the new Sony's coming out and the new LED tv is really cool but you cant touch those televisions at this price point. I kind of wish I had waited for the G10 seeing as it came in at such a close price difference but I cant complain I love this tv and it is a few hundred dollars cheaper. I should also note that the anti-glare filter works really well I wouldn't be worried about glare issues. If anyone got through this review my advice to you is to buy this or the step up G10.

5For most people, this set represents the best value for money of any 50" class HDTV
By James Ahearn
I decided on the P50S1 after about 250 hours of daily HDTV research for the past 3 or 4 months, in which I debated everything from plasma vs. LCD to screen size to features to ease of use to durability. The 2009 Panasonic plasmas use the new "Neo-PDP" panels, which I can tell you personally having lifted both are much lighter than an equal size 2008 model plasma. The manual prudently warns against a single person lifting the set, but I did so myself with no problem. This model was initially sold on Amazon at the initial MSRP of $1799, but has now dropped to a street price of under $1400 one month after being released. Placed my order on Wednesday the 8th, scheduled delivery for the following Wednesday the 15th. Was very surprised to get a phone call from Amazon's freight carrier, CEVA, asking if they could deliver the TV on the 11th. Four days early, and on a Saturday no less. The CEVA driver carried the box into my apartment, unpacked it, let me inspect the TV, assembled the stand, put the TV on the stand, and let me hook up the power and HDMI connection to turn the TV on, all before I signed for it.Picture quality in the Cinema preset is already outstanding to my eyes. However I'm sure color accuracy will improve once I tweak some settings as posted at [..]. The Panasonic 2009 S series, G10 series, and V10 series all use the same physical panels, so the only differences between them are software/firmware, and extras like the VGA input and VieraCast on the other series. If you don't need the extras and are willing to tweak your picture settings, the S series is the best value for money out there. If I really nitpick, the only negative I can come up with is the glossy black finish shows dust very easily, but that is true of most any HDTV currently sold.

5AMAZING!
By AJW
This tv is great! I have been researching tvs for over a year to find the right one. I read all of the professional reviews (cnet) and this is the tv that I decided on. I was on a budget, I am a college student who does a lot of gaming and blu-ray watching. I am extremely picky about picture quality and this tv delivers an amazing picture! This blows nearly all LCD tv's out of the water. I was not going to get a plasma to begin with because of the supposed "image retention" which I have yet to notice. I am extremely glad that I got a Panasonic Plasma. The blacks are so deep, it almost looks as though the tv is off when the screen is black. The deep blacks make the colors pop! I have watched a number of blu-rays and played a couple of hours of games and I am in love already. I highly recommend this tv to everyone. It is an extremely good deal. Any LCD for this size would be much more expensive and have a much lower picture quality. Also for those of you deciding between the G10 and this tv I would recommend this one. I went to the local Best Buy and compared the two next to each other and I could not notice any difference between the two. Save yourself some money. Good luck deciding on your next tv I hope this review helped.

4Great Set from Samsung
By elixxxer
I have been researching plasma televisions for the last few months in preparation for my first large TV purchase. It was a painstaking process that eventually lead me to purchase the Panasonic G25. Because I lived with that TV for about three weeks and have enjoyed the C7000 for the same amount of time, I am poised to compare the two. What first must be addressed is why I chose to return the G25. Two words: floating blacks. This is not to be confused with the phenomenon of rising blacks, where over time the ability of the panel to produce deep, dark blacks is diminished (although this afflicts 2010 models, it occurs at a more gradual rate). "Floating blacks" occurs when images on screen change in brightness and the blacks rise and fall as a result. This represents a significant problem because it is reactionary: when a bright image appears, the blacks do not rise immediately so the effect becomes very obvious and irritating. Floating blacks have been reported by many, while others swear they either do not exist or are indiscernible. I found the behavior to be pervasive for all material and absolutely unbearable. This is unfortunate, because the G25 was fantastic in every other regard: nearly perfect colors out of the box in THX mode, rich blacks with great shadow detail and not a hint of image retention or burn in. In all of the aforementioned categories, the G25 outperformed the C7000 and makes me wish Panasonic would have their niggles sorted.Onward to the C7000.Overall, I am very pleased with the television. Aesthetically, it is an extremely striking piece of kit. The base is a beautiful piece of brushed aluminum (well, it's probably steel, but the finish is brushed), the bezel also sports a brushed finish, which in my opinion is far superior to the glossy bezel of most sets, and the glass-like base support and surround add the finishing touch to a special looking television. The picture quality of this television is great, to be sure. I find the out-of-the-box colors to be fairly inaccurate and they will be further from true without a professional calibration than the Panasonic. Black levels are good, although not as a rich as the G25 (pre-rise anyway, that could change after a year or two). The screen is a bit brighter than the G25 with more color pop and I have had no issues with motion. The G25 was noticeably grainier, a possible issue if one's normal viewing distance is closer than average (say, closer than 8 feet). The standard menu allows for far more customization than the Panasonic and there is no need for a non-professional to ever enter the service menu. The internet widgets are exponentially superior to those offered by Panasonic, but I have so many streamers, media devices etc. that the included Samsung apps are rarely used. There are a couple of things that irk me with the Samsung, none necessarily significant. Image retention is far more prominent on this set than the Panasonic or my parents' five-year-old Phillips. A static image left on screen for just a few minutes will result in image retention (and I do have the pixel orbiter set to engage after just one minute). Luckily, it will disappear within minutes after switching to any content that will get those pixels moving and none of the retention has resulted in burn-in. I do play games and still detect no burn-in whatsoever. Also, I did notice a bit of line bleed that I never experienced with the G25, but that seemed to be an isolated incident as I have not observed it again. That segues nicely to my next point of complaint: game mode. The input lag on this set makes games unplayable in any mode BUT game mode. This in itself is not an issue, because with game mode engaged, any remaining lag is imperceptible. The problem stems from a poorly designed menu. To activate game mode, you must enter the menu, scroll down to services, then click the general setting menu, and then choose on or off. If input lag is going to suck so much in all other modes, this needs to be a single button-click on the remote. Moreover, you can't disengage game mode by simply switching picture modes. Instead, you must again navigate the same asinine menu tree. Irritating and unnecessary, but at least input lag is perfectly acceptable once in game mode. What many buyers considering this set are probably concerned with is 3D capability. It is by far the least expensive 3D television currently available and (especially with the present inclusion of a BR player/starter kit combo) is an unbeatable value. 3D on this set is nearly as good as the big boys (read: VT25) with little crosstalk or ghosting. 3D content is sparse at the moment and will continue to be for the foreseeable future (partly because of the exclusive packaging bull malarkey perpetuated by Samsung and the studios themselves; talk about shooting yourself in the foot). As such, the 2D-3D conversion algorithm is a nice addition and can deliver surprisingly impressive results. It works well for some content and is insufferable with others, so you will have to experiment and see what works for you. Some games and animated content seem to respond particularly well. I recently experimented with native 3D content via the PS3 and was surprised with the results. Stardust HD and Motorstorm both exceeded my expectations, especially considering they were not initially created with 3D as an objective. WipeOut, while not nearly as striking (and a medicore game at best), still enjoyed the added benefit of depth afforded by 3D and still yields an appreciable effect. I should also add that I have experienced no issues whatsoever concerning communication or syncing between the glasses and the television. Additionally, the glasses are fairly comfortable and having to change a battery every 50 hours is actually preferable in the long run, as opposed to losing the charge with internal units, necessitating a trip to the factory (or refuse bin).A tangential but important note: when the 7000 line of Samsung plasmas was first released, a picture-processing mode called Motion Judder Canceller was engaged and undefeatable. What this processing actually does is irrelevant: it should be avoided like the plague. If you choose this set, make sure it has firmware 1026 or later installed or download it immediately if not. For giggles, I converted my C7000 into a C8000 in the service menu, which activates the option to enable or disable MJC (I do not recommend this as there is no need). I enabled it and within seconds wanted to gouge my eyes out, it really is that bad. Make sure MJC is off, forever. And ever.I suppose this review might come across as somewhat negative. I have decided to keep the Samsung and am happy to have returned the Panasonic, if that is any indication. I give a slight edge to the G25 in overall picture quality, so if you do not need/want 3D and do not observe floating blacks - or don't know what the heck I'm talking about (and believe me, ignorance is most definitely bliss here) - I would go for the Panasonic, primarily because it is surprisingly inexpensive for the picture it offers. Otherwise, the Samsung is a great set and impeccable value considering its feature set and stunning design. All of the 2010 plasma models have their foibles, it just so happens the C7000 offered the least of them in areas concerning me for the right price.

5One fantasic TV!
By RedPhillips
This TV is absolutely amazing. The picture quality is top notch, and after demoing several models from panasonic, samsung and LG, I decided for the price this TV included everything I could ever want. I'm extremely pleased with my decision. After purchasing a Samsung LED in December, I was left somewhat unimpressed. My first HDTV was plasma and after owning a few LCDs and one LED I decided to go back to plasma. I mostly compared Panasonic and Samsung, but also took a brief look at some of LG's LED TVs. It finally came down to the G25 by Panasonic and this TV, the PN50c7000. Picture quality was the most important to me, so that came first. Both TV's looked excellent in HD(Source was star trek BD), but after demoing the two several times I felt the PN50c7000 had the edge. I consulted one of my buddies who is an expert on HDTVs(a professional calibrator)and he broke down the pros and cons of each model. I went with the PN50c7000 and could not be happier. The picture quality is fantastic, with rich colors and very deep blacks. The addition of 3D was also a plus to me, but definitely not one of my priorities. Standard definition also looks amazing, and with TV's these days SD quality can vary drastically from set to set(The G25 was not as great at reproducing SD, one of the deal breakers for me). Finally, the PNc7000 had far more internet capabilities than the G25, which was another added bonus, as well as 3D. Since owning the TV I have tested many sources and it seems to reproduce colors very accurately, and again, has a great contrast. I would also like to address the issue many have had with this TV, the so called "soap opera effect". The first generation models of this TV came preloaded with MJC(the newer ones do not), or motion judder canceller, which made movement look "fake" or ghostly when watching from some sources. This is a feature also found of the C8000 series, but for some reason samsung didn't include an option to turn it off on the C7000. Many returned their sets in anger because of this, but its actually a very easy fix. There are several options, the easiest being the game mode option. Switching the game mode from on to off in the general settings will turn this effect off. Do this for each source and no more MJC. Samsung has also issued a firmware update on their website which can be applied via a USB flash drive that will also fix the issue. The last option, which many tech savvy individuals have done, is switch the TV from a c7000 model to an 8000 model via the service menu, which gives you a menu option to turn MJC off. I can confirm that this works, but do so at your own risk. You can potentially brick your TV if you do something wrong. The first two options are extremely easy and safe to perform. Don't return your sets because of this and miss out on a seriously impressive TV. Overall this TV has it all. An extremely impressive PQ, internet capability and 3D are all present on the PNc7000, with a sleek, slim design to top it off. I would recommend this TV to anyone, and while the Panasonic G25 is also a very impressive TV, my opinion leans toward Samsung this year.Update: There is some image retention on this model that many will notice, including myself. Don't worry, its never permanent. There is a recommended 100 hour break in time with most plasmas, and this is no exception. If the temporary image retention bothers you, make sure you dial down the contrast and especially brightness. Do this for the first 50-100 hours and image retention should slowly become a non issue. For those who don't want to do this, run the scrolling bar across your screen when image retention occurs and it will do the trick. Note: I recently left my screen on pause for 3 hours(forgot to turn it off!) and of course it left quite a bit of burn in. I ran the scrolling bar for 2 minutes and everything went away. Works like a charm.Update #2 : Well, after about eleven months of use(and eleven great months at that) a line of pixels has died in my screen. It is a very small line about 1/3 the way down. I opened the TV up to check all the connections and they were solid, so I have chalked this up as a bad panel. Luckily I bought an extended warranty so BB has ordered the new panel and will send someone to put it in at the end of this week. I'm almost positive Samsung also offers a warranty for at least the first year, but dealing with them will probably be complex and take a much longer amount of time.I briefly searched to see if anyone else has had this issue as well but so far I have found only a few cases. While It is certainly disappointing to have a panel fail after only eleven months, the PNC7000 is still an amazing TV with stunning PQ. I would give it 4 stars, current conditions withstanding. Just thought I would share my experiences even if it is a rare occurrence.

4Awesome TV with a few shortfalls
By E. Boci
I purchased this TV as a replacement for an older JVC DLP 1080i set. The colors and details are amazing! Playing PS3 games and blu ray movies on a plasma are everything I've read about. There has been absolutely no blurring during action movies like some LCD's can have. I don't know how it compares to some of the "industry's finest" plasmas, like a Kuro, but from what I've seen, the black levels have been superb.I describe myself as a pretty technical person, so I really appreciate all of the adjustments available on the 7000 series. I would liked to have purchased the PN50C8000, with pro calibration controls, but it wasn't available to me at the time I purchased this model.Adding to the geek appeal is the internet functionality. I am able to connect it directly to a LAN cable, so all internet widgets and video streaming are quick and don't lag. Possibly one of the greatest connection feature has to be the USB connection. I have a 1 TB external hdd filled with movies and video. I have only encountered one obscure file format that the TV hasn't been able to play. It will even play .mkv files! There have only been a few downfalls to this TV. From the time I turned it on for the first time, there has been a buzzing noise emitting from the screen. I can't pinpoint the exact location, but you can hear it when you would like to have the volume lower (like when our baby is taking a nap). Apparently this has been an ongoing issue with Samsung TV's, and it seems that I have been one of the latest victims. I am still unsure how I am going to handle this buzz (take it back to Best Buy or call Samsung). This is probably expected with how thin these displays are, but the sound is pretty tinney and doesn't have a lot of quality. Most people will probably want to purchase a sound bar or have a home theater set up, like I do, so it really isn't that big of a deal. The only other thing, which is inherent in plasma screens (no matter what the companies tell you), is burning images. I've read all over the internet that modern plasma displays are not supposed to be susceptible to this problem, but let me tell you, if you leave your DVR paused for more than a few minutes on a bright screen or an image with a prominent network icon (Discovery Channel HD), you will definitely see an image for a little while. The TV has features to minimize or allow the pixels to "unburn" itself, but you need to be careful anyways. So far I have really enjoyed the PN50C7000, I would definitely recommend it, but will always caution the buzzing.

5so far so good
By James Forester
Bought this tv today at walmart for black friday. Got it for 600. So far the picture looks great. My last tv was a 42" 720p plasma. This has a noticeably better picture. The 240hz refresh rate is very noticeable, even on standard definition. Everything looks very smooth. I was very excited to try the 3d. It was pretty cool at first, for the first 20 minutes, but i don't see using it very often. It was fun to flip through all the 3d content and see what everything looked like, but I think i would rather watch most movies in 1080p 2d. The 3d does look good, but its not as good as the movie theater. At the movie theater things look like they jump out 20 feet and hit you in the face. With this, the pop out effect is less than impressive. I would say stuff only pops out 6 inches. There is a lot of depth though. The background effect is much better than the pop out. This is my first experience with home 3d and i would venture a guess that this is a good as any home 3d. So far i really have nothing to complain about. If i find something negative, i will edit my reviewforgot one negative is it only has 1 hookup that can be hooked up either composite or component. It has loads of hdmi ports, but for older devices without hdmi, you can only hook up 1

3I am impressed so far. **IMPORTANT** UPDATED 10/02/12 @ 03:50
By Brian S. Walcott
I got this TV on Black Friday at Walmart. Fantastic picture and the 3D works great. I watched Conan The Barbarian and the newest Pirates of the Caribbean. Conan was the first I watched and to be honest I thought the 3D part of the TV was going to suck. Then I watched Pirates and realized that the 3D worked fine, at the end where Black Beard stuck his skeleton hand out of the water spout showed what this TV's 3d can do. I paused it and the hand really looks as if it is reaching out of the screen. So the 3D quality of the movie you are watching will make a world of difference. The best way to judge 3D TV will be to watch Avatar on 3D blue ray on a 3D blue Ray player. I haven't done that yet but should have a new BR by the end of the year. Avatar is the gold standard for 3D so if this TV can impress me there it will have been well worth the money. The 240hz refresh rate does give the shows and movies a live look. I watched The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy and realized that the 240hz refresh rate makes all the large battle scenes of Orks and such look pretty real considering the only thing real is the computer code written for the scenes. The sound SUCKS OUT LOUD & it sounds terrible while doing it. I have mine ran through a Surround system so that is easily fixed. The Audio Optical Output feels really lose and audio can be lost if you move the TV from side to side and put the least amount of tension on the line. I would rather it have a separate HDMI output for sound but I think the higher priced models do that. Get your High Speed HDMI cables on Amazon or somewhere else on line. The price at the store for 6ft of High Speed HDMI was no less then $30.00 for the cheapest and over $70.00 for others. I got one for $9.95 on Amazon. Be prepared though: Regular channels (non HD)look terrible and Black and White movies do not show well on this TV. I am a huge old movie fan too :( As far as regular channels it may just be my cable provider. What they say is HD is not the true 1080P HD one would expect. I have yet to find a HD channel that they have that has 1080P, this TV tells you the signal strength if you press the info button on the remote control. I have not used the Wi-Fi feature & hope I can get it to work when I get it hooked to the internet. On set up I did not have it connected and the TV said if I skipped steps in the initial set up that certain features on the remote will not work. Surely once I connect on-line it will go through those steps again so my Remote will be up to date. If not I will be pretty pissed. I am very happy with my purchase so far but give this 4 stars for the poor audio quality and the loose optical connection..UPDATE: I would not suggest this TV or ANY 3D TV for families with small children. My 3 1/2yo grand daughter was over last weekend so I ordered Cars 2 3D. We watched it for about 5 minutes until she took the glasses off and said they were "making her eyes burn."Update: Captains Log Earth date February Thirteenth Two Thousand and Twelve: Time 22:44. I have had several people over and the response I got from them when viewing 3D content on this TV was WOOOOOOOOOW! Several different people on several different occasions all with the same comment. WOOOOOOOOOW! I am such a Star Trek geek. LOL!Update: 002/29/12 00:44. When I wrote this in the original review "Be prepared Black and White movies do not show well on this TV." I was wrong. After learning the ins & outs and how to use the settings this TV shows the oldies just fine.Update: 06/11/12 00:41. I was babysitting kids this weekend ranging in age from 4 to 12, when I put the Smurfs 3D in and once again the response was WOOOOOOOOOW!! They loved it and were so fascinated by the 3D effects they were not really paying attention to the movie. They had seen it before but not in 3D. I had to tell them to NOT TOUCH THE TV & that it only looked like an open window into another world. I am very happy with this black friday purchase as a matter of fact I think this could be the best buy I have ever made. The response I get from EVERYONE is WOOOOOOOOOW!UPDATE: 09/27/12 02:17. I got home yesterday morn and tried to turn it on. Nothing happened, it did not even click or flash. Called Vizio tech support & they scheduled a tech to come out. It is suppose to be under warranty I bought it on Black Friday (11/25/11). As long as they either fix it or give me a different one I will be happy. If they don't I will let you know to NEVER buy a Vizio, evidently powering problems are rampant in all Vizio T.V.'s.UPDATE: 10/02/12 03:50. It took 5 days from problem start to problem corrected. Vizio did make good on their warranty and a tech fixed the problem. HOWEVER: (This will change my review to a 3 star). The problem was with a firmware update (specifically lack of one). A firmware update or lack it should not have caused such a catastrophic failure. The unit would not come on at all requiring a tech run. This type of issue should not warrant having to pay someone to come out & do it. I am connected to the internet through a direct link to my modem, I have always been able to use Facebook & hulu but I have never been able to get the updates. I will be checking in with Vizio monthly to see if updates are available so I can get them before the set turns off & a tech is needed again. The picture, 3D and internet apps all look great and still when people see the 3D picture the response is always WOOOOOOW! But a lack of firmware update should have never caused the set to NOT work.

4Vizio M3D420SR - Terrific HDTV
By Sam
I was looking for a 42 inch HDTV from Samsung or Sony. But I was blown away by this Vizio that I found for $598 at Sams Club. Amazon sells it at $900+ for some reason. The Vizio M3D420SR had razor sharp clarity, 3D w 4 glasses, a QWERTY keyboard, 240 HZ refresh rate, 5,000,000:1 contrast ratio, 1080p resolution and surround sound amongst a host of other features. It has all the new features I am aware of. But the real pleasure is the razor-sharp clarity. And at $598, it is an amazing deal for a 42 inch TV!!!One con is that the Wi-Fi isn't strong enough. I had to still connect the Netflix through my Wii as the connection through the TV's Wi-Fi would break off after running for a few minutes (It would give the buffering sign and almost hang). I have not tried the 3-D yet.

4Replacing Viera 50" bought in 2006 for 1/3 of the cost
By mr engineer
It replaces a 2006, 50" Viera and seems to be the same quality product but a lighter and smaller set built around the same screen size. It was delivered to my living room and set up and checked. I was very happy with the delivery. The set has an improvement that lets you directly access internet movies from several vendors by using my wireless network in-house server. I am not much of a pay-per-view person but U-tube videos are free. The only drawback compared to my older set is the lack of a reflection free screen. The older model featured some type of coating that stopped the mirror effect of lighting on the screen. The new screen acts like a mirror and reflects lighting brightly. Not good. The preference and set up menus are more elaborate to walk through than the older system but offer more. Overall I feel the reliability will be good in this set as it has been in the past with no service needed for 6 years. I gave my old set to someone and it was working like the day it was delivered in 2006.

4LG is underrated.
By Rob
I had quite an ordeal over the last month attempting to purchase a new HDTV. I was looking in the sub $1000 range, wanted a 40-42" LED-Lit model and did a lot of research before settling on the Samsung UN40C6300.I originally settled for Samsung over LG due to in-store picture comparisons and quite frankly, Samsung's great reputation over the past years. They were the pioneers of LED edge lighting and for a long time remained king of HDTVs. When my set arrived via Amazon (which was super simple by the way) and I set it up, I was instantly shocked and disappointed. The samsung model had the worst backlight bleeding I have ever seen in any LCD TV/Monitor.. ever.. Upon researching the issue further I discovered that Samsung now outsources panels and I got stuck with a horrible Chineese CN02 panel while the model in the store happened to be using a Samsung Branded IPS panel. I can't say for sure whether stores always get the better panel for display purposes, but this sneaky bait and switch should be illegal. Needless to say, the viewing angles on the horrible CN02 panel and the awful bleeding (spots the size of softballs scattered through the image). Furious, I set up an immediate exchange with Amazon and went back to researching.Digging deep in Amazon's search, I stumbled across the LG 42LE5400 which was only $4 more then the previous Samsung model. What caught me about this TV over the previous was the following:1) Same exact price.2) Research indicated NO panel lottery and LG using superior IPS panels.3) 2" Larger Screen4) NetCast Apps (Samsung's only supplies these on higher-end models)5) Wider range of inputs including composite-in6) Matte screen (Yes glossy looks nicer, but I'd rather not watch TV in a mirror). The exchange through amazon was painless and I am always impressed by their policies and understanding. After the horrible Samsung model was dragged away and the new LG panel dropped off, I set it up and was pleased. The picture was just as nice as the Samsung in my opinion (though a bit less crisp due to matte screen instead of glossy, but that was to be expected and actually ended up being preferred due to lack of reflections). I confirmed a genuine IPS panel by the orientation of the pixels and the push-test. I cannot comment on the sound since I always use a home theater receiver and have never used the built-in speakers. The Set comes with tons of calibration options, eco-sensors (which I disabled as I found it preferred to darken the screen too much. Why have an LED screen when you dim it down to nothing). Even the lighting on the power and function buttons has a neat animation and full control of turning off pesky logo lighting when watching in the dark, a nice touch. The only gripes I have on this panel are the following:1) There is some mild backlight bleeding around the top right and bottom left corner. This tends to make blacks in that general area a bit more grey, but nowhere (and I mean nowhere) as bad as the Samsung. I suppose this is just a limitation of Edge-lit panels.2) NetCast does NOT include Pandora even though it lists Pandora all over LGs website. I suppose they only include that in their receivers/blu-ray players, a major disappointment. Should be called "NetCast Lite".I really rate this panel a 4.5/5 due to the mild backlight bleeding. I feel more care should be put by all brands regarding this issue, but this panel was much better then others thus why I'm keeping it. I'm also a bit put off by the differences in NetCast.Other then that, I'm glad that I finally have this whole fiasco behind me. LG came out of the woodwork for me and blew me away with a far-superior television then the comparable Samsung model with no surprises, tricks and included many extras for the same price range. Unless something goes wrong (or they start getting sneaky with bait-and-switch like Samsung), LG is my new television brand.

4Great unit, but delay lag problematic for video games; audio sync fixable
By not-just-yeti
This is a great TV: awesome picture and features.- picture brightness is great: I'm using it in a bright living room (with windows on either side of TV), and the LED screen is bright enough to watch w/o problem.- overall features great: Assume I've gushed on about the picture quality, the number of inputs (including several on the side for easy access), the neat 'video mute' feature (under energy saver) so I can play a music CD on my DVD player and not have to see the DVD's stupid music screen, and so on. (Hmm, I guess I could play mp3s on a thumb drive directly from the tv itself; I haven't tried that yet.)- Audio sync problem fixed via firmware: As others have mentioned, after 45min-1hr, the audio became noticeably out of sync from the picture; this seemed to be equally true for all inputs. It wouldn't get *worse* after more time, but it was bad enough that it looked dubbed. My initial hack was to switch to a different input then switch back to the program, and it would re-sync. However, after upgrading the firmware via the internet this problem disappeared. A few notes: ~ getting the internet connected took me a bit; even though DHCP should have happened at plug-in, I had to turn my wireless hub off/on in order to get the TV to get its IP address; ~ In order to trigger the firmware update, I had to press 'netcast' or 'widgets' on the remote; I think it was at that point that the TV automatically sought out the update. ~ it took two firmware updates in a row to reach the most recent version (6.0.something, I think).- Noticeable delay lag for video games: about a tenth of a second or even a bit more (after some measurements and calculating). This is acceptable for many games, but for Wii Music every note I play is off beat, and for Dance Dance Revolution a perfect step scores between "great" and "good". (This is a lag between when the signal is received and when it actually gets displayed -- it doesn't matter for normal TV since you'd never notice if your entire movie is shifted back 0.1s. N.B. "Delay lag" is *not* related to "pixel response time".)~ [Delay lag on other models: I dragged my Wii Music down to Best Buy and tried it on several similar models I was considering. The Samsung LEDs I tried also had ~0.10s lag; Sony Bravia LEDs had ~0.06s lag (still noticeable); no noticeable lag on LCD Viera or Sharp Aquos *LCD*, but (weirdest part) the Sharp Aquos *LED* did have lag (~0.10s). All the models I tried were 40-46"; most were 120Hz. I hope all the time I spent measuring helps out somebody else!]This is for a 42" LG5400; 2010.Jul.15.

3Picture quality is good but Wireless Ready feature is useless
By Pallab Ghosh Choudhuri
So far, the picture quality is good to me, who never had LCD or LED tv before. So anything better than CRTV is kind of a "wow" to me. So, I dont want to write too much about picture quality. There is one thing I felt betrayed about. There is nowhere in the product description tells that the "Wireless Ready" feature works if and only if one uses USB wireless adapter made by LG and no other USB wireless adapter. I purchased this "Internet Ready" TV with a hope that I would use a different wireless USB adapter that can be purchased for just $15. Now, I am shocked to learn that I will have to use only LG adapter that one can buy for about $80 in amazon. So, when you purchase this product, keep in mind that you will have to spend another 80 bucks to make Netcast and netflix work. Although other option is to hook your computer to the TV by HDMI or AVI.I hope this review help you make informed decision.

4Great picture but ...
By aznpoet
I got it at a great price under $500. The picture quality is as good as units costing a lot more. It doesn't have 120hz refresh rate or LED backlight at this price point but I don't play a lot of video games; therefore, high refresh rate isn't a must and the advantanges of LED is not that significant enough (100,000 hrs. LED life-span vs. 15,000 hrs. for fluorescent light source) to justify higher cost. It is well-built and looks stylish. Full 1080p HD resolution - awesome! My only beef with this model is that it does not have audio output for use with headphones - only the digital output, which is totally useless. Still, for what I paid and considering the picture quality, it's not a deal breaker.Highly recommended!

4Good Decision
By Mark Losasso
After much research, I decided to purchase this TV and am happy with my decision. I previously owned a Toshiba set (http://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-26HF85-Widescreen-HD-Ready-Screen/dp/B000816XK2) that I was very happy with, but was looking for something with HDMI support to hook up my Apple TV. I took stock of what components needed to hook up to the set and with what types of connections (Wii with a component connection, iPhone/iPod with a composite connection, Apple TV with an HDMI connection, and a Blu-Ray player with another HDMI connection). I also had a space requirement that this set fit into perfectly, giving me the largest viewable area in the space I had available.Once I turned the TV on with basic cable, I was not that impressed with the picture quality. After a few minutes and getting all the connections set, I found that HD content looked great, especially at 1080p coming from the Blu-Ray player.I have resisted hooking the TV up to my old receiver (though it does have the inputs available to do so) and surround sound system to get a sense of the audio from the TV alone, and so far, so good. For the price, this is a good set. I have only had it for a week or more, so cannot review the longer term performance, but at this point, I am quite satisfied.

4Good value for decent TV
By Philip H. Tong
This toshiba is a great TV for someone who has never owned an HDTV or just needs an extra TV. But if you compare this to Samsung and Sony, then this TV gets blown away. The remote feels cheap. The options on the TV are limited. But the picture quality is fantastic. I use it to watch netflix from my ps3, play ps3 games, and watch TV sports. All look great. The audio levels are fine, I'm not sure what the other reviewer is complaining about. I've had this TV for 2 months now and no problems so far.Summary: if you are want a no frills HDTV that gives good picture quality, at a good price, this is for you. But if you want more, look elsewhere.

5For the price, a definite steal!
By Eek
I purchased this TV after many months of research to replace a 7 year old 17" LCD TV for my bedroom. I have an extensive movie collection and I had nowhere else I could watch my blu-rays except for the TV in my Dad's man cave. I got sick of my Dad kicking me out all the time, so I decided to invest in a television that will last at least a few years. I chose this model because I wanted a plasma for the size/price ratio, and the superior picture quality. I also considered the Panasonic G20/25, LG PK950, and the Samsung C7000. Panasonic's response to their rising black levels, plus the floating blacks really crossed that off my list quickly. I was pretty much set on the PK950, but when I researched the price it happened to be on sale. Well, when I was ready to purchase the price jumped up $200 and did not decrease in the few weeks I waited. So, I jumped on a good price on this model. I saw the C7000 in store and was not all that impressed by the black level, but I had read that C6500 was supposed to be a bit better because it is not 3D. Since I plan on purchasing an additional television in a few years, I decided to wait on a 3D model until more content becomes available/affordable.Delivery: I ordered my TV from Amazon on Saturday, June 26th and scheduled delivery during checkout for Tuesday, July 6th. My TV shipped on the 27th, so I was hoping it might arrive early since it was only coming from about 5 hours away. Since I never received a call, I expected the TV to come during the window I scheduled. My scheduled time came and went, and nothing. Frustrated, I called Pilot, the delivery service. The customer representative told me my package was still at its origin and was not scheduled to arrive in my state until the next day! So, basically I was told Pilot held my package for a week. I was not happy, but I was told I should be called the next day to schedule delivery. Well, the next day I still had not received a call. Finally at 6 o'clock I called Pilot again. This representative was considerably nicer, and connected me to the courier responsible for the delivery. Turns out they lost my paperwork, but the woman I talked to was very nice and apologetic and said my package would arrive the next day and I would be called an hour in advance. The next morning I was getting everything ready hoping my package would actually arrive when I received a call from a local courier, not Pilot, saying they did not read the note to call an hour ahead and were actually outside my house asking if they could deliver the TV then. Two men came in, assembled the TV on its stand, placed it where I wanted it and plugged it in before asking for a signature. A great experience once they arrived, but don't think your scheduled delivery time is absolute. If you haven't heard anything the day before your appointment, make sure you call the carrier before you take any time off of work.Aesthetically, the c6500 is a beautiful set. Nice and slim, with an all black flat border and a bit of clear plastic that extends over the side. The base is black and matches the television. It is almost as impressive off as it is on.Buzz: I walked out of my bedroom when the delivery guys left, and when I walked back in I heard a strange buzzing sound. My house was completely silent so it was definitely noticeable, and when I heard it I realized it was the infamous Samsung buzz. The first few days it was a little distracting, but I got over it very quickly. Now I only notice it when I am dead center and the volume is either low or I am at a silent part of a movie. Not a deal breaker for me, but I can see why it would be to some people.Image Retention: My 7 year old LCD has big image retention issues, oddly enough. With that TV, the whole image would stay on the screen for quite a while before it would go away, colors and all. With the Samsung, it's more of a shadow of the image. Menus and text are the most susceptible if they appear for longer than twenty seconds. I do not think this is a problem as it fades so quickly, and there is a scrolling pattern that can be activated to clear off anything that is particularly persistent.Reflections: This TV does fairly well with reflections. I have a window opposite the TV with a blind in it that does not fit, so light comes through around the frame. It stills shows up on the screen, but I can easily ignore it and it does not detract from the image. If you've had a CRT or any TV with a glass front, you should know what to expect. If you have large windows opposite the screen, you may want to consider a matte screen LCD.Picture Quality: I have watched a variety of content on this TV and overall I am very pleased. I admit I am very picky and critical when it comes to a good picture. The color accuracy is very good. When I watch blu-rays I am amazed at just how crisp the picture is. The TV in my Dad's man cave is a rear projection Mitsubishi. Even with blu-rays, I don't feel the picture is as fluid and uniform as my Samsung. The colors definitely pop, although they do not pop as much as my Dad's Mitsubishi and definitely not as much as my Uncle's Pioneer Kuro. I don't think most people would notice, but you might if you are accustomed to LCDs. Don't get me wrong, it still pops, just not as much as what I'm used to. As for the black level, it's not as deep as I had hoped. The Mitsubishi without a doubt has deeper blacks and it's something I notice whenever there are black bars. If the screen is filled however I do not notice it as much. This is just me being extremely critical and most people would not notice. Since this is a bedroom TV, I do not have a cable box. Only the channels that come through my coaxial cable straight to the TV. SD is what it is, though I will say this TV does a decent job at it. Surprise to me, this model picks up OTA HD channels. Quality greatly depends on the content, but I am impressed. I considered it a huge compliment when my sister took over my TV and my room to watch the All Star baseball game on Fox HD. For her to do that, someone who does not care about picture quality at all, the picture HAS to be good. Even though the blacks are not as deep, I still feel the picture is superior to most televisions out there.Internet: I bought this model because it has the internet apps and connectivity. Ignore the Samsung chart on Amazon's information page, it is inaccurate and this television definitely has the apps. I wanted to be able to stream movies, and upgrade firmware without complications. I have an older Samsung blu-ray player that has no usb or wifi, and can only be updated through a CD or LAN which is on a different floor of the house. It is an absolute pain so I did not want that issue with my television. My router is in my bedroom so I could have easily run an ethernet cable, but in preparation for moving in the future I wanted to be wireless. Instead of spending $60 on the Samsung dongle, I bought a Rosewill adapter that has the same chipset for $27 shipped. Much cheaper and works perfect. I tried Amazon's VOD because of the credit I was given for registering. I watched Kill Bill and the HD was good but not blu-ray quality. And when I paused, the pause menu overlapped with the black bars so it stayed for quite a while since nothing else showed up on that part of the screen. A little annoying, but nothing the scrolling bars couldn't fix. I love having access to so many movies instantly so I am definitely going to invest in a Netflix account since they seem to have the most content. There is also Vudu, which gives you one free rental, Blockbuster, and some Best Buy movie channel. I don't have much use for the Facebook or Twitter apps, so I cannot comment on those. Pandora is missing which I know is a favorite of many.Other: After just an hour of use, this TV starts to get very hot. My Dad has walked into my room several times when my door has been closed and asked why was it so hot, when I have to respond that it's because of my TV. In a small closed off room, like my bedroom, it can get a little stuffy. Larger open rooms should provide enough circulation to minimize the problem. Fortunately we have central air, but if we didn't I don't know if I could sit in my bedroom with this on. And for those interested, there is a Samsung app for the IPhone/IPod Touch to turn it into a remote for all internet connected 2010 televisions. I found it a bit annoying and unnecessary, but some of you may enjoy it.Overall I think this is a great television that demands some serious bragging rights. After spending about eight months researching and wondering if I will make the right choice, I am very happy I bought the C6500. HOWEVER, for anyone who is really keen on investing in 3D technology, I suggest either the C7000/8000 series, or the recently released C680 Plasma. It appears to be exactly the same as the C6500 but with 3D and it even has the same MSRP. If 3D is not an issue, buy the 6500 series. You will not regret it, especially at this price!Update: Pandora has been added as an app for all those who are interested.

5Why get an LCD panel?
By A. Chung
I was struggling between this TV and the G25. The Panasonic did have warmer colors and performed better with motion however, I could not stand the grain. Returned it eventually and got this Samsung. I am MUCH happier with it. I would recommend the Panasonic only if you have a very dark room (even during the day) and plan on only watching movies but for overall, everyday use I would go with the Samsung. Even though the Panasonic had better anti-reflective screen- Great PQ, less grain- Much more refined user-friendly interface and bezel- Super thin- Surprisingly better sound than the Panny- Colors 'popped' out more like LCD, G25 definitely has more realistic colors (esp. during dark room viewing)- Great response rate with gaming - Plasma is the way to go if you're a game- BUZZ - my first C6500 was terrible, it sounded like there was a beehive in the back of my TV, switched it out and got a July 2010 build ^^ and am happy to report that it's SUPER faint; only noticeable when you put your ear up to the screen. So if you're super paranoid about it, try to request the latest build.- No rising blacks :)- Does get warm but that's expected with all plasmas- Does not deal as well as the Panasonic with fast motion/panning- IR was there with the first one I got, but with the July 2010 build it is virtually nonexistent. And even if you do get one with IR it goes away after a minute- Better SD performanceIf you are looking for a reference plasma in your TV for your home theater, look elsewhere (G25). If you need an all-around plasma TV that has great daytime performance, less grain and great colors go with the Samsung

5Excellent 2D Television Value
By Jonathan P. Smith
This TV delivers awesome value to those who are not interested in 3D. I did not have any retailer nearby that carried this model (retail stores prefer the pricier 3D models), so I bought it from Amazon on blind faith. Turned out to be a great decision!Pros: The picture quality of this TV is amazing. Blacks are black, colors are vibrant and motion is smooth. The biggest thing I noticed compared to my smaller 1080p Samsung LCD is that shiny objects actually look glossy on this tv. Blacks seem to be pretty deep to me, certainly a step up from any LCD or LED I have seen. The picture quality is also a step us from the thicker Samsung PN50C550 50-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV (Black) I was able to see in stores. That model has a nasty habit of having random background fuzziness that both this TV and the higher end Samsung plasma models don't seem to have. If you are considering between the two like I was, get this one instead. The Movie setting is very nice, and there are tons of calibration options if you want to really get the picture how you prefer it. Samsung should be proud to put their name on this TV.One good thing about this TV is that is does not suffer from the "soap opera effect." In fact, turning that effect on is not even an option! The built in tuner is good. The TV picked up my local channels and HD sports look amazing. SD programming looks pretty good compared to my old LCD, but I personally watch less and less SD stuff nowadays. I hooked up my HTPC and the TV has a perfect 1:1 pixel mapping, which means no overscan. This TV is super slim (like their LED series) and very ascetically pleasing. I actually prefer the glossy traditional Samsung look over the matte black and brushed metal of the 7000 series plasma I saw in the store locally. There is no buzz, or at least none that I can hear. My wife plays music for a living so she has good ears and she never complains. Mine was made in June, which must be when they got it figured out.Image retention started off pretty bad but got ok within a week and ever since then IR has barely been a factor. I have my Xbox hooked up to the TV, and gaming is great with no ghosting or blur.Cons: Unlike what the description above states, the TV does not have the Cinema Smooth feature unless you are willing to hack into its service menu and force it to think it is the 8000 model. I personally don't want to void my warranty, so I left that alone. If you read online you find that Cinema Smooth raises the black level anyway and is probably not a wanted feature. Go outside of Samsung if you want 24p.The service manual warns about not watching too much 4:3 content (I assume to avoid black vertical bar burn in) and even though I haven't had any problems if your DVD collection is all pre-2000's SD TV then maybe consider something that's not a plasma. The only picture quality downside is that it is not as sharp as some TVs I have seen; the image doesn't "pop out" as much as the highest end models do. But overall the amazing blacks, colors, and lack of motion blur means it easily bests any LCD near it in price. If you have a bright room this TV might not be the best because the screen isn't as bright as some LCDs, but that brightness (unless you pay $2000+ for a LED with local dimming) also means washed out colors so consider some curtains and enjoy the show! The last downside is that the stand is weak, but the TV comes with a way to attach it to a nearby wall for support.Overall I think this TV provides great value for those who don't care about 3D, and should be considered over the 2009 plasma models that are thicker but barely less in price. Amazon seems to be the only place to get it, and for that I thank them!Other Comments: The delivery was easy. I called Pilot a day after Amazon confirmed it shipped, and they scheduled a delivery time for me a whole week ahead of the indicated delivery date. The delivery man helped me set it up and hook up my Blu Ray player to make sure it worked. Don't be scared buying online, it was really a nice experience. Time to go watch a movie!
