5Nice TV if you need a small HDTV set
By terpfan1980
I got this TV compliments of the big V telco/data company. The big V telco promised customers that signed up for their Fiber Optic to the home service triple play bundle a free Sharp Aquos TV. Apparently their offer was very popular and lots of customers like me signed up during their promotion.I note that this particular Sharp LCD TV doesn't make mention of the Aquos model/brand, tough it is a very nice HDTV set if you are in need of a smaller set. As a kitchen/dining room set, or perhaps as a TV for use in children's rooms this Sharp model (LC19SB25U) would seem to be a very nice choice. It delivers crisp and sharp (no pun intended) pictures with it's 720p capability. (1080i or 1080p would downconvert nicely on this set) In my case, this TV serves me well for watching TV a few feet over on the corner of the desk in my den/playroom type area. It offers me the opportunity to watch TV programming while using my regular HDTV to play video games on, on most nites serving up the nightly baseball game :-)The remote control is adequate, and the available connections are also quite adequate (including an HDMI port and PC input port, features not always included on smaller LCD TVs). Documentation included with this TV is complete and thorough without being too confusing or hard to use.In most cases a larger TV may be priced within range of this Sharp LCD TV, and you may find the larger size is more important than the input ports or other impressive features found on this Sharp LCD TV. Research the features you'd gain or lose along the way before buying just to be sure you aren't making a bad decision.

4Nice little TV
By A. McIntire
After reading the other reviews here, and checking this model (and others) out at brick & mortar stores, we decided to buy it despite the negative comments on the sound/volume. As others here have noted the picture is quite nice, but more important we did not have any problems with the volume. We have not yet turned it up over maybe 1/3 of the total, and it is plenty loud enough for our living room. Granted, we are not vacuuming while watching TV, but we do have a couple of rambunctious kids, and the TV is plenty loud enough with them running around.------------------------------(later)Well, some videos (disc & tape) seem to need the volume turned all the way up to hear, but most things are just fine at 1/4 to 1/3 volume level. Don't know what makes those videos different, but they consistently need the volume boost, while others never need it. Regular TV (over the air or via cable) never needs the boost.

5Very good HDTV
By D. Renfroe
This Sharp LCD HDTV Is great. Has a super clear picture... works flawlessly in 480P mode with my Nintendo Wii and Dvd. The built in digital tuner was able to pick up about 15 Digital HDTV Channels using a standard indoor rabbit ears antenna. I am also very impressed with the black level and contrast. Will also connect to a pc in in full 1360x768 resolution. This tv also has an optical out for connecting a dolby digital 5.1 tuner. It amazing to get True DD 5.1 surround sound from shows such as CSI Miami. The built in speakers are only 2 watt. So I recomend use of external speakers with this set. the resolution of 720P is perfect for this size HDTV. 480p sources such as dvds and wii across the component cables scale very well and look great. I would highly recomend this set to anyone looking for a high quality Small size HDTV set.

5Cobyv surprise.
By Clyde.
I bought my Coby at a local store after my 37 inch LG gave up the ghost after four (4) years and about a month after my extended warranty expired. I've purchased Coby headphones one pair sounded great but didn't last long, but what can you expect for $2.00, from Amazon, but never any other Coby items. The 40 inch Coby has a beautiful clear picture. Although I play it through a dedicated sound system, the sound is good through the TV speakers. So far so good, I'll see how long it last. I bought the five year extended warranty just to be on the safe side. I hope and pray it last longer the LG a brand I will never buy again.

1TV had problem after 6 hrs of use (over 2 days) - also this is a 720p LCD TV, not 1080p
By phwang
Bought this TV new from Fry's on 5/29/11. Used it that night for a couple of hours. Then watched TV again next day. On the 3rd day, the remote nor the TV pwoer switch would not work... had to turn the surge protector off then on again, now remote was able to turn the tv on. Watched TV and channel surfed for about 30 min, now gets to a channel with sound but no image (black screen). Unable to turn off TV using remote nor TV button. Had to turn off surge protector again and on - works now. Emailed Coby tech support - awaiting response... will update my review afterwards, if I get a response.Update:This is the crappy response I got - tech support does not even understand that the unit is broken.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------We're delighted to have you as a customer and want to ensure that you can begin using and enjoying your COBY product right away. In addition to giving you the best products, we're also committed to providing you with a comprehensive range of support services backed by a team of expert advisors that are ready to assist youPlease contact our customer care call center for a "Step-by-Step" guide or help on "how-to".Consumer Care Contact Information1-877-302-2629-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Update:So I kept the set since it seems to be working fine the next day perhaps a mistake. I bought a new video card for my PC with HDMI out intending to be able to use this 40" 1080p screen. After researching and tweaking settings, I re-read the specs on Amazon and found out that this is really a 720p LCD TV (capable of 1080i). Note the inconsistency in the Amazon description of this item...Product Features and Technical DetailsProduct Features * 40-Inch widescreen TFT LCD (1080p) is DTV-ready with dual ATSC/NTSC tunersTechnical Details * Brand Name: Coby * Model: TFTV4028 * Display Technology: LCD * Display Size: 40 inches * Image Aspect Ratio: 16:09 * Image Contrast Ratio: 1000:1 * Resolution: 720p * Refresh Rate: 60Also, the user manual and the box totally misleads the buyers. Page 22 of the manual, if falsely claims the TFT panel to have a Resolution of "1920x1080"... FALSE!!!So now I am downgrading this from a 2 star to a 1 star.Update 7/10/11:So I tried calling the 877# to ask why my TV is being reported as having a native resolution of 1366x768... well, it goes to a voicemail and the voicemail is full, so no one to answer the phone and no ability to leave a message (which would probably not be returned).See notes on what is 1366x768..[...]Hm... can't downgrade lower than a 1 star. There should be a 0 star.

4Pleasant TV for the price
By maryc65
I normally don't review items however since there are almost nil out there on this tv I wanted to voice my opinion. This tv rocks. I had been waiting to purchase a Vizio 42" model and saw this Coby at Shopko. It was on sale for an incredible price of just $399.99. I watched it for a bit and was appreciative of the picture quality even tho it was only hooked to 720. I knew once it was at 1080 it would improve. They were out and I got the raincheck and waited a week to get it home. The sound at first was tinny but the surround was off and once I turned that on It was much better however needs improvement so the 4 star rating. I did purchase a Vizio sound bar but am electronically challenged on gettin it to work. I need the S/pif cable I guess. Going to get one this weekend. This tv has the same hookups as the Vizio and an excellent picture. I love it so far! Great job Coby!

5Very Happy With this TV
By Petros
We could not be any happier with our purchase of this Plasma. This TV was my family's first venture into the world of HD. We considered many factors, such as screen size, price, on-going maintenance expenses, and getting something that we would be happy with for a good number of years. We were first drawn to Projections, because of the huge screens available for reasonable prices, but were turned off by the good possibility of having to purchase a new expensive bulb every year of so. LCD's were nice, but their price in larger screens was significantly higher than Plasmas, and they have the problem with the viewing angle. In the end, we decided to go with a Plasma no smaller that 50 inches, because we didn't want to feel as if we needed a "bigger" TV a few years down the road. Before purchasing the LG 720p, we tried the same resolution in the Insignia 50 Inch Plasma. That was in our house for one day when we decided to return it to get something of better quality, which turned out to be this LG. The price of the LG was only a little more than the Insignia, but the quality was so much better. The picture is phenomenal. I cannot tell any difference between the picture on this compared to Plasmas that cost 4-5 times as much. Even non-HD channels look great on this. The appearance is very nice as well. The color of the case is "piano black" which looks really slick. We bought the Init Wall Mount for this TV, and it works great. It was simple and fast to install. The only possible negative with the LG was the sound. This was the one area where we actually liked the Insignia better. On some stations, we have to crank the sound up to 60 or beyond. With our Wii, it only needs to be in the teens. So the issue is probably more with my Cable Provider and/or Cable Box. But as I indicated, we did notice better sound with the Insignia. There was an issue when we first got the TV out of the box and hooked it up. There was a white vertical line on the far right-hand side of the TV that ran the entire height. You could see some blurry images through the white, so I knew it wasn't just a aspect ratio setting. This line started going away the second day of viewing, and by the third day it was gone completely and have had no problems with it since (we have now owned this for about a month). Maybe it just needed to get "broken in"???We also purchased a 4-Year Extended Warranty from the store we got this from, mostly for peace of mind on this investment. Their Extended Warranty does cover burn-in, so that is a good thing to know just in case one of the kids leaves it on. But hopefully we will never have to use it.Overall, we are thrilled with this TV, and we wholeheartedly recommend it.

4Fantastic Picture Quality - most screen for the money
By Daniel Fodera
We bought this TV a couple months ago at Best Buy. This is a great TV for the money. It's big of course, and it has a bright sharp image. The resolution is fantastic. (When watching nature shows you can see an individual hair on a lion's ear...awesome). My house is now the place for the kids to come to to watch movies. We will probably host our first real Superbowl party around this machine too. It has inputs for just about everything, and my next test will be to run an s-video cable to it from the laptop.I gave it only four stars because I'm not 100% satisfied with the audio. It's good, but I think it could be sharper and deeper. Comcast HD has a music channel (Palladia) and the sound from the TV doesn't do concerts in HD justice. I have to crank it way up to get heavy sound when watching action movies.Bottom line: Excellent image and features. If you are planning to combine this with a home theater audio set up, you won't go wrong. If you expect home theater quality audio off this set, you will be disappointed.

1BEWARE!!!!
By A. Wright
Purchased this TV back in 2008, a few weeks ago I lost my picture and sound (only loud buzzing noise), only to realize that my internal screen had multiple hair-line cracks. Did not use this as my primary tv because it was in my basement, so it was never used daily and was very well kept. Unsure what the cause was for the cracks within the screen, as there was never any physical damage done to it at all. Called LG to "no avail" since the manufacturer warranty expired. Appears to be a common problem that should be addressed by LG, but will likely continue to be ignored by LG. I would stay clear of this model, whether it be new or used!!!

4Excellent HDTV, especially for the price
By Superchemist cook
We've had this Vizio 47 inch TV for just over a month now, and the family loves it. Setup took maybe 5 minutes, using HDMI hookups for incoming Digital cable, DVD, X-box 360, and Playstation 3. Took an extra 5 minutes to hard-wire the internet cable, and connect optical audio output to the Home Theatre system.Picture quality is excellent, with the very high contrast ratio....Black is really black, unlike on my 1-year old Sony Bravia2 Million:1 vs 30K:1 contrast ratios). Didn't really need to do much to optimize the picture quality. Blue-Ray movies played off the PS3 look awesome. Also found it was easy to adjust the lip-sync for TV sound to make it match the surround sound system.I don't know if the LED lighting is what improves the picture quality or not, but it looks great. The remote is easy to use, but seems to have a flaw, continually telling me that the batteries are almost dead, when they are hours fresh. Fortunately, everything still works just fine.Only reason this review is not 5 stars is the limited choices on internet services. Would be nice to be able to have a browser for full internet access. However, Netflix, the main service we use works great. Have watched a bunch of movies, and the quality is almost always excellent, much better than we used to get using the Netflix app on the XBox 360.I would recommend this TV to anyone looking for a good quality, affordable TV. I can't imagine what more one could get by doubling the cost, as many brands do.

3Vizio M70NV review
By straightreview
I received this tv about 2 months ago and here's a list of pros and cons I can come up with.Pros:Picture is very crisp in HDPicture can be viewed from almost 180 degree angle of viewOverall thickness of tv is amazing, less than 2"Internet appsCons:Tv remote will not work anymore, it had problems after about 3 or 4 days. The problem initially was that sometimes the keys on the top of the remote would not work, and then every now and then they would. After 2 months, the remote is completely out of commission. I can no longer use the Internet Apps, the Tv must be turned off manually from the side, and sometimes that does not work. If I'm watching Netflix the button on the side of the Tv will not work. So the only way to turn the Tv off is to unplug it. I called Vizio customer service and spoke with a tech and I went through all the unique troubleshooting techniques that they instruct. Still nothing worked so they are sending a new remote.Other problems I have with this product is that the internet apps could be improved. The Showtime app is very limited as is some of the others. I really wish you could browse the net with an app such as google. The sound from the tv is not very impressive at all.In all honesty after reading about 10 other similar reviews, I would probably look past this product, and look for something of higher quality and maybe better reviews.

5I THINK... I LOVE THIS TV
By Joshau L. Urovitch
OK, so this review is based on ownership for one week. TV was VERY easy to set up and to hook up to our wireless G network (there is NO benefit from having a wireless N network), it is all about the speed of your internet and has nothing to do with the speed of your network since the internet speed will be the bottleneck, DSL will probably be to slow, the internet app VUDU said I should download movies in 1080P. The Bluetooth remote control that came with the TV controls our cable box (Comcast - Motorola), the remote is AMAZING!!! Net flick looks AMAZING!!! The other internet features are pretty good. I HOPE that the hulu deal that Vizio has done will be playable with this TV. The picture looks awesome!!! BUT there is better technology out there and local dimming is supposed to give you a better picture but it is more expensive. While watching the Home Network (house hunters) I did notice some blue bleeding from the top left corner, I am not sure if it was filmed that way or was the fault of the TV because I did not notice this blue bleeding any other time. Blacks look great, but I don't have twenty TV's next to mine to point out that another TV has better blacks, this TV has a 1:1,000,000 contrast ratio and I am very happy with the picture. I have not played much with the picture options, so the settings that come with the TV are pretty GREAT. I am also happy with the sound; yes there is no bass... its TV speakers.OK, the TV looks Amazing in standard definition (I was very surprised because usually standard def does not look good with these new 1080P TV's) and High definition. I only watched a preview in 1080P through the internet with VUDU (did not want to spend the $$$ to watch more) and the TV looked amazing. I do not have a blue ray player since I don't like to spend $$$ and I just signed up for Netflix, so I did not even watch a DVD to experiment with. I did not try over the air HDTV, I live in NH where we only get 4 channels and two of them SUCK...lol.OK, now for the problems. While playing around with the remote, I some how got the TV to freeze within the first 5 hours of ownership. Had to call Vizio (was upgraded to a level three tec), they told me how to reset the firmware by pressing down on the power button on the TV for 30 seconds, but first unplug all cables (this took about 45 minutes). Since then the TV has worked flawless. I thought that there would be a feature that would UPGRADE the firmware... you know... since it is able to hook up to the internet, but I could not find it :(... don't know if this is good or bad. The TV has three USB plugs that do not work, it is suppose to work later on when Vizio fixes their firmware (even though I don't see how it is possible to upgrade it)... so I have read online... I am not to worried, but it would be a nice feature to be able to plug in a usb thumb drive and watch an avi file... personally I would much rather have Hulu going and CANCEL my cable service (this is a dream of mine...lol)OK...I now own this TV for 4 months... the freezing has never stopped, even after a firmware update (that is controlled by Vizio). Every other day when I turn on the TV it freezes... mostly in HD stations but it has also happened when I was plugged in my laptop and sometimes in SD channels I can tell that it is just about to freeze. Mostly freezes when I turn the TV on, when it does happens I hold the power button for thirty seconds... it usually turns off but the vizio flashes so I have to hold it again for thirty seconds then it finally turns on usually normally but every once in a while I would have to do this whole thing twices... could be a five minute affair.I have called Vizio to fix the problem, I have an appointment this Tuesday, two people are coming to my home, they tell me that they are changing the main board and the power supply. I hope this fixes the problem. My sister has the 42" TRUE LED and she is having problems with her remote control. I have another 32" Vizio... purchased a refurbished 1080P model about three years ago for $350 and it has not given me one problem.I still love the picture quality and I would still buy a new Vizio TV... so far...lol. I a glutton for punishment.OK... This is the THIRD FOLLOW UP. From my phone conversation with Vizo, they have decided to change out the MAIN BOARD and the POWER SUPPLY. This was done about two - three weeks ago. Now, the TV runs PERFECT. Has not freezed once, it is a LOT more snappy when I turn it on. What bothers me the most is that I thought I loved this TV even though it would freeze up so often and that I ignored the problem for so long... like I said it would freeze every day or every other day and sometimes twice a day.

5Startling clarity, detail, and color
By Mike
Had my Samsung UN55B8000 TV a couple of weeks now. It has more than lived up to the hype. Hooked it up and put on a blu-ray disk. Even the delivery guy's jaw dropped, and he's delivered/set up hundreds of TVs.TV is only inch and half thick and only weighs 60 pounds or so.In fact, it is sometimes almost too good. When viewing people on HD you can see every little mole, scar, wrinkle, stray hair, makeup, five o'clock shadow, makeup line, etc. I'm sitting here watching the news and I can clearly see tiny pieces of lint on the guy's black suit. I'm guessing the talking heads of tomorrow are all going to have to have much better complexions. If you like to tweak your TV this one provides a lot of different controls. There are already some websites that will give you what they consider good tweaks to maximize the pic. You can also look for the B7000 tweaks. Looks pretty darn fantastic right out of the box so if you aren't a techie, don't worry about it.Sounds..not particularly good or bad, but I don't want TV speakers taking up space anyway. If you are going to spend this kind of money for a TV you should be using your stereo system. Some reviewers were complaining about the number of inputs. Again, how many is enough. I run my PS3, XBOX360, IPOD, and the Dish box through my Denon and so I only use one HDMI.You can plug it into the internet. No set-up, just plug it in. First thing it did was download 12 updates to itself. Have no idea what they did but ...didn't cause any problems. It automatically loads up some of Yahoo's widgets. Fun to try but...not something I have really gone back and used much. Also has some built in content...recipes, artwork, etc. that I haven't bothered to look at.You can plug in USB drives and view content directly off the drive.I long ago got rid of my roof antenna. I bought a little Turk indoor antenna and plugged that in so I can pop over into over-the-air signals and watch TV. It will automatically search and find the on-air channels. It even downloads some kind of TV guide from the internet for the channels it finds.I also wanted to see if there was any signal degradation from Dish. I haven't noticed the HD degradation with Dish that I had with Comcast. The way Comcast packed the HD signals you could see a real difference between OTA and the packed pics.Samsung also provides software which allows you to use your PC as a server. Then you can display your pics, music, etc on the TV. Took a little playing around but was easy compared to some of the others I've tried to use.I've played games with both my PS3 and the XBOX360. No problems. No pixelating. Did not bother to change TV over to game mode. I haven't fooled around with the 240Hz function. I just leave it on standard.I'm sure there are other features I haven't tried. With the ability to update itself over the internet I have no doubt they will teach it even more amazing tricks.I've set up my Harmony 880 Pro to control all my devices including the IPOD. IPOD menu/info will display (through my Denon) on the TV.All of the above features are great but the main thing is... the picture is just absolutely mind-blowing wonderful. So, fantastic TV. I am VERY happy with it. Obviously I highly recommend it.((Now I'm watching Wall-E in HD and it is pretty amazing.))

5WOW!
By Kalibr
I have owned Sony televisions exclusively for the past 30 years. I was in the market for a new TV to replace my older Sony 50" Grand WEGA LCD projection set. I always keep up with new technologies in consumer electronics and knew that LED backlighting was the way to go. One day, I visited Best Buy to see the new Sony models. I was particularly interested in the Sony Bravia XBR8 LED TV. It has an awesome display, but I couldn't bring myself to part with $5K for a TV. The high price was a big disappointment. I knew Samsung made LED models so I decided to check them out too. I was immediately floored. They looked far better than Sony's more expensive LED model and for $2K less. But, was I really willing to purchase something other than a Sony TV? I would have to be convinced. I did a lot of research on these Samsung sets. I demoed them in several stores and read as many reviews as possible. IMO, the Samsung LED TVs are by far the best technology currently available. Their display must be seen to be believed. Most impressive of all, is the fact that Samsung accomplished this in a set that is only 1.2" thick.Well, I was finally convinced and decided to purchase the Samsung UN55B8000. I have owned it for almost a month now and I am in awe every time I watch it. This set is beautiful even when it's turned off. But, you won't want to turn it off because the clarity, detail, brightness, contrast and color are absolutely exceptional. For the first time I have owned a TV, I did not have to make any adjustments to the factory settings - it looked perfect right out of the box. In fact, I had purchased a calibration DVD and was surprised to find that I didn't have to make any adjustment to any controls.Of course, the most amazing thing about this set and what intially lured me to it is its picture quality. It's difficult to explain the level of detail it produces. I have HD cable programming (1080i), which looks fantastic. Games on the Xbox 360 pops out at you. But the images produced from a Blu-ray source is absolutely breath-taking. I was also pleasantly surprised at how bright the display looks in my sunlit family room. I thought I would have to adjust the brightness to view the set in daylight and again when watching at night as I did with our old Sony TV. Although the screen on the UN55B8000 has a gloss finish, it does a great job of reducing glare and reflections.I do want to respond to the negative comments that others have posted here regarding uneven backlighting or vignetting effect caused by the edge-lit LEDs when the TV displays dark images. The only time I notice this was when the set displays a totally black background such as in movie credits. At best, it appears as a very faint illumination from the corner. But even then, I really had to look for it. I don't think this is an issue at all; at least not one that should deter anyone from purchasing this incredible TV. I have to assume that those that have experienced this anomaly are probably looking at an uncalibrated set that has its brightness level turned way too high.I took advantage of the slim design of this set and purchased the ultra slim wall mount. The TV hangs like a picture frame and looks like a masterpiece, which it is. The slim case houses adequate speakers, producing fairly good sound quality for normal TV viewing. Of course, you would want to watch movies through a surround sound system. As for the other features of this set; the internet widgets are pretty cool, but slow. I especially like the YouTube widget. The DLNA network feature is also a nice addition, but the interface is also slow and not very intuitive. I'm hoping that a future firmware upgrade would improve the functionality. The content library feature is my favorite. It allows you to display a slideshow of artwork or other pics with soft background music - great for parties. You can download additional content for free from Samsung.I am extremely pleased with this television and would recommend it to anyone.

4Very good but not perfect
By A. Bailey
Clarity and colors are stunning. It literally makes everything you watch look like it was filmed with a consumer grade camcorder rather than pro grade cameras. This TV makes things look like they are happening in front of you in your very own room. You see every strand of hair, every wrinkle, every mole and blemish on faces. You have to see it to believe it. One way to describe it is that everything looks "different" than what you may have been accustomed to seeing. I recommend that you see this TV in a brick-n-mortar store to see what I mean. The number of adjustments menus is also above and beyond what any one of us not in the business of making these TVs is ever going to need. For folks that want to tweak, here is your opportunity. However, this TV is not perfect.1. Corners show reverse vignetting where on very dark scenes you can see the corner illumination projecting significantly into the screen. It looks like a flash light is projecting from the corner. The corner itself is very dark but a very faint light spreads in a fan pattern from each corner towards the center of the screen. This is only visible in very dark scenes where the primary display color is black. You can not see this normally.2. The stand does not feel sturdy. If you push on the very top of the bezel, the screen will rock back and forth... I freaked out the first time I did that when I bumped the screen during placement of the TV on my entertainment stand. Looking at the attachment point, Samsung went super cheap; the current attachment technique does not belong on a TV in this price range. You are provided with (literally) a shoe-lace attached to a triangular piece of plastic that attaches to the TV. The other end is supposed to be attached either to the wall or your stand. This is really out of place for a TV of this caliber and I think is my biggest disappointment with this TV.As the LED display technology advances, I'm sure this TV will be surpassed in performance by future models from Samsung or competing brands. However, for the time being, this is a very good HD display with some imperfections.I'm pleased with the purchase and look forward to many years of service.Regards,

5Perfect for me, but with some flashlighting
By Marty Gillis
This review is for the LG 47LE5400 47-Inch Edge Lit LED/LCD 1080p HDTV! (what a mouthful!) This is a new model and Amazons date for "first available is wrong. After much comparison, and much online and in-store research I decided to plunk down my hard earned cash on this bad boy. So far, I am very glad I did.My criteria for purchase was a screen no larger than 47 inches (to preserve the image quality of my AVI files and SD programming) and also something that had perfect geometry (unlike the Mitsubishi DLP that recently died on me) and something that would display and maintain a bright uniform picture. (unlike my Pioneer Plasma did) I also had hoped for a display that could display a 50hz PAL video signal as long as it was first upconverted to 720p or higher. (The LG will NOT display a 576 line image , but will take that image if upconverted , even while remaining 50hz so no format conversion is required for motion correctness, just upconversion to 720p / 1080i or 1080p)Purchased the set at a brick and mortar location (initials are BB) so in case things didn't work out I could return or exchange it with no problems. I easily carried the box inside my house (I am pushing 60 with arthritis) and had the stand assembled and mounted on the TV in about 20 minutes total from bringing in the box. The TV is packed well, but not filled with unnecessary packaging material. There is a quick start guide included and the entire manual resides on a CD-Rom which I personally HATE but at least you can't spill things on it right? Also included were warranty materials, a separate set of instructions and CD-ROM for the web connectivity stuff , some cable adapters, a cleaning cloth and the remote with two AAA batteries. The TV was in perfect condition, wrapped in that foam cloth stuff and with the prerequisite plastic film over the frame bezel. Easy to remove all of that stuff and it didn't leave any trace of sticky residue which was nice. Jacks are group on the rear left with the USB and headphone jacks on the left side but behind the bezel. This TV is very thin and not all that secure on it's stand. The stand is fine, but I would recommend strapping it down whenever you put it unless you use a wall mount of some kind. Just sitting on a table you are one false move away from turning your beautiful LED TV into a doorstop. And the TV itself is very nice to look at, very easy on the eyes really.I am not currently using the web connectivity stuff or the Netflix online feature so I can not comment on those functions in this review. If they work as well as the rest of the unit, things should be fine. While it is 'internet ready' it does not include a wireless dongle so you either need to physically connect it to your router with an Ethernet cable, or purchase a USB wireless dongle from LG . (Yes, they are proprietary, unfortunately) Connected my HDMI cables from my Fios DVR and Oppo Blu Ray and plugged in the power. This TV will power up and ask you if you want 'home use' or "store use' which is of course flame thrower mode. Pick 'home use' and go from there. Just remember which inputs you plugged what into so you can easily get to them. The manual will tell you how to custom label your inputs if you can't remember HDMI 1 or 2 or so forth. The first thing I did was set the picture to "Standard" and then lower the back light, the contrast, the brightness and color and even sharpness levels. Then I went into the advanced settings menu and turned off all the noise reduction and cut the auto contrast setting down to low. The TV will not look all that great out of the box as it is meant to attract your attention in the store, but those setting are pretty useless at home if you want your picture to look rich and natural. All in all, it took me maybe 15 minutes to get a starting point where I could watch and be more than happy with the picture. You can download the manual from LG's website and get to know this unit before you purchase. That's what I did and it saved me tons of time. LG also includes a 'Picture Wizard' that helps you to easily and quickly calibrate an input to your taste and achieve fairly accurate color and proper contrast and brightness. You can then assign that setting to any input or inputs you wish and save it . You can do this twice and save each one with the 'Expert' function and of course you can adjust the other preset picture modes and save them as well. LOTS of options in that regard!A word about the 120Hz True Motion. Like hot sauce, a little goes a long way. LG offers you your choice of ON, OFF, LOW, HIGH and USER. In the user mode you can adjust both judder AND motion blur separately which is a big improvement in software for this model I think. To me, the True Motion gives you almost the same effect as watching a video tape rather than a film. It does lend itself to some program material, making certain things appear even more real, a sort of hyper reality. It does introduce some other artifacts into the picture quality that you may or may not notice and ultimately you may decide not to use it at all. The good news is, it can be switched off but also adjusted to suit your needs and personal taste. Does it completely eliminate motion blur? Not by a long shot! For now, motion blur is something that is inherent in LCD displays. Maybe someday they will find a way to get them to switch on and off quicker (the pixels) and perhaps start putting some beefier processing chips into these things as well. As it is, on very rare occasions the display seems to 'skip a beat' and the chip seems to be temporarily overloaded. It all happens in a blink of an eye and is over before it started, but it DOES happen. The dreaded lip sync issue that you may have heard about regarding LG has happened to me once so far after changing channels on my DVR. I had to shut off the display and reboot and it went away the first time. I plan to update the firmware as soon as I connect to my Cable router and hopefully it will be a thing of the past. I have used it heavily for more than a week and it has only happened once so far.My BIGGEST criteria for selecting my new TV was it's ability to play PAL DVD video with no conversion. I have a very large collection of British and European DVD's and am not happy with 'converting' them to NTSC even with my Oppo. By making some sense out of the LG specs I had guessed it might be able to display PAL properly with no format (50 to 60hz) conversion, resulting in a much better picture than standard DVD could ever provide. IT WORKS PEREFCTLY! (but you MUST first upconvert it to 720p or 1080i or 1080p for the LG to be able to display it. Any upconverting DVD player can accomplish that for you!) So far, only my Pioneer Plasma could display PAL without conversion so this was a huge plus for me. My Babylon 5 PAL DVD's look VERY close to HD and a real revelation, not to mention my LOTR Extended Editions in glorious PAL!! Also, standard NTSC DVD video is quite good, depending on your player and source material and off the air (or off Fios in my case) SD material looks very good. And it goes without saying that Blu Ray or HD DVD material will simply blow you away once the set is even basically calibrated.By the end of the day I had both my DVR and Blu Ray inputs calibrated to my liking and I must say the overall picture quality is nothing short of excellent. Sounds is 'ok' , not too awful, but not good enough to satisfy a movie lover. (hook up to a surround system and you will be glad you did)So far, I have just ONE complaint and for many people this is a big one. In a word, FLASHLIGHTING !This is when the LED's which illuminate the LCD pixels shine through the edges of the picture and make there way in to dark areas on your screen, such as night time, or a fade out . During any other time the picture is outstanding, but no matter how low I set the back light (within reason) you can easily see it during any dark scnes. I personally have chosen to ignore this problem and just enjoy the TV.You will not notice the flashlighting problem in the store. They make sure and supply program material that never goes dark on the edges so any deficiencies in contrast or flashlighting are hidden from the consumer. Bring your own USB drive with a movie that features a lot of dark scenes, the new Harry Potter comes to mind, and you will see for yourself. That's of course if they let you do that! I had also considered the Vizio 47 inch LED LCD set for about the same price and IT features local dimming on the LED array which eliminates this flashlighting problem. I just don't feel comfortable yet with Vizio as a brand and opted for the LG. Videophiles would think I am nuts, but there you have it! Neither Vizio nor the king of local dimming LED, Samsung ,can display native PAL video. I feel I made the right choice for me anyway. This TV really provides you with a HUGE wealth of signal processing tools (adjustments) to shape your picture quality any way you want it to be. There are 2 expert modes that let you tweak and calibrate to your hearts content, and not even my Pio Kuro had this amount of control over it. Honestly, except for the flashlighting problem I am totally happy with this LG. Honestly, I can live with it, but many could not. I would say the average person would rarely, if ever notice it , but it IS there and as such a deal breaker for many would be buyers. With that said, This TV seems to be well made with a good solid build quality, the remote is much better than most (although I just use a Harmony One for everything) and it does everything I want it to do and more. Now lets see if the thing holds up to heavy use. As a parting thought I would recommend going with some form of extended warranty. Either thru the place of purchase or perhaps a company like Square Trade would be good as they allow you to purchase your extended warranty any time during the original warranty of your product. HAPPY TV SHOPPING!UPDATE 5/30/10 : After 3 weeks of using this TV, and taking the time to properly calibrate the inputs (using Digital Video essentials and THX Optimizer) I have come to some conclusions......The 5400 performs VERY well for SD sources, both AVI based , Standard DVD and SD cable channels. (subject to whatever compression our cable company or DVD manufacturer has added) Xvid encoded files rate very good to almost HD in appearance. Really nice! The vertical banding is only visible during extremely WHITE based scenes with side to side camera pans. It is bothersome at times, but I am choosing to ignore it in favor of this sets strong points. I continue to be amazed by the quality off unconverted Pal DVD playback on this thing. My Fios premium channels have taken on an almost 3D quality and I sometimes find myself just staring at this thing in wonder and shaking my head in disbelief at times. No kidding! . If you spent another thousand or so on a top local dimming Samsung you could do better, otherwise I feel this TV is a winner and I still have NO buyers remorse. I put my new Mitsubishi DLP (newly repaired) in my walk-in closet in case of disaster striking the LG. I see the USB wireless adapter is finally available so I will be ordering that next month and checking out the Netflix performance and other widgets and content providers.UPDATE 6-14-10 Finally got around to connecting to the net with this thing. It was very easy. I just plugged in an Ethernet cable from my router and it instantly set itself up with no help from me. Went about programming the Yahoo Widgets next and while it was a bit painstaking, it worked fine. Set up my You Tube account as well and after signing in (and telling it to stay signed in) it works like a charm. Netflix will be next in just 2 weeks, but for now it all looks and works great. I have a fast net connection so I don't foresee any trouble with Netlfix, even the HD content. My final update will be posted after checking out Netflix performance..... Stay Tuned....FINAL UPDATE 6-16-10OK, I can give a good report on the Network capabilities and user interface . Right now I am connected to my computer and extra hard drives on a wireless LAN set up in my media room. I have the LG connected directly to my router via the Ethernet connection. (didn't want to chance the bandwidth with their wireless dongle) I am running a very inexpensive Compaq (under 300 bucks new) and using Nero Media Home 4 as my server software even though Windows 7 includes such software of their own. The LG is optimized for the Nero program and the basic version is included with your TV purchase from LG. I set up my computer for Network sharing and let er rip!How does it work? IN a word............. G R E A T !!! So fa the LG can hand ALL formats I have thrown at it. It outperforms (by miles) an Asus O'Play and even the USB playback of my Oppo BDP-80. I am getting flawless playback, even on HD files of large size and bitrates. The user interface is nice. There are many options and it is intuitive. The software on the LG even remembers your place if you stop a file and wish to resume later. It is very well thought out for an added extra. With this modest system I have in place, it is like having my very own on demand channel that only plays the stuff I love! I really can't say enough good things about the performance. It is truly great and so much nicer than the little standalone media players on the market right now.So after almost a month now, I totally LOVE this TV !! Honestly, I am not all that hip about computers and networks and i got it to work within a few hours and beyond any of my expectations. Just plugging in a USB hard drive or thumb drive to the TV jacks and bypassing networking would be simple as can be and yield the same excellent results. And this is just a bonus feature. WOW! I am SO glad I bought this TV and hope other folks with similar needs will try this out and see for themselves. I am SOLD on LG for now!

4Excellent TV - Very satisfied
By MonkTheKing
I've had the LG LE475400 set up in my living room for about a week now. I have a PS3, Xbox 360, surround sound receiver, and my HD cable box attached. With 4 HDMI slots, I was able to connect all of them with HDMI wires. Out of the box, the picture is pretty lame. Be prepared to spend roughly 10 - 15 minutes per input slot setting up your preferred options. Please note that for some reason the "Real Cinema" option is only available to me on certain HDMI slots - i wonder if it has anything to do with the connected equipment or not. Another interesting setting is the "Tru Motion" option - turn this to high if you like to have that "soap opera" feel to your video. I have to say, it looks very natural but i prefer to keep this option off as a matter of taste. I'm sure some people will love it. Besides those two options, you have the standard "Contrast", "Sharpness", etc,etc options as well. You could even control specific color settings - ie - Blue brightness, Red brightness, etc etc. Loads of tweaking options here. You could literally spend hours on each input if you're obsessive enough. After I completed all my tweaks for each input i have to say i'm very impressed with this TV. I probably sit a little too close to the TV than I should (I bought this TV for my next apt which will be bigger) and even with that being the case it looks great. As with all LCD's you will see some motion distortion but I think LG has a done a great job limiting this (especially if you turn off Tru Motion). Now granted the only movies I've watched on it so far are HD cable programs (like HD HBO) so I can't comment on how Blu Ray movies would play (getting Avatar Blu Ray this coming Saturday to test it!!)Where I see a huge improvement in this TV over my now defunct Samsung 40" LCD (720p)is in video game graphics and visuals. I mean, this TV is perfect for gaming. It's almost as if this TV has given some of my games a new lease on life. I can't stress enough how amazing my games look and play on this TV. Again, I had to spend a bit of time tweaking the settings to my liking but I'm sure any die hard gamer or videophile would find settings that suit their taste. Just a phenomenal gaming TV.From a physical design perspective you could probably find something more attractive. The bezel is as plain as it gets with a very "no frills" design. Also, before I wall mounted this TV I noticed it to be a bit wobbly on the stand. This could have been due to me not attaching the stand securely enough but I thought I did a solid job.The best part of the design is how thin it is - I'm talking Kate Moss thin. I really love how thin it is. It's just such a nice look.Oh, and the power cord for some reason feels exceptionally short compared to other LCDs I've owned.Compared to what I've paid in the past for LCDs, this TV is wonderful. If you're in the market for a 47" LCD definitely give this one a look.

5Amazing TV, great price~!
By CT
Prior to this TV we had a 40' Sony XBR2 LED which I love and was moved to the bedroom with this purchase. After reading reviews and taking stock of the features of this TV I decided to take the plunge and get the LG. I had purchased an LG monitor last year and loved it, and this TV lives up to that purchase. The picture is incredible first off. I went in to Best Buy and compared it to all the high-end models, and this one held it's own against Samsung's and Sony's, for half the price. It looks like the price has gone up a bit here since I purchased it, but that's because they sold out thru amazon and are being sold by another vendor here.I loved the connectivity features of this TV. It had netflix streaming, vuduo and widgets. It has plenty of HDMI ports. One thing I did NOT like was that it only has an optical out. I fixed this problem by purchasing a Gefen Gtv-digaud-2aaud Digital-to-analog Audio Adapterwhich works perfectly. I simply connected the optical to this from TV, then stereo cables to my surround system. Problem solved. I also didn't like that it didn't have an S-video cable. I solved this by getting Pyle Home PCVHDM49 Composite Video and S-Video to HDMI Converter which works great when I connect my old videogame systems to it. I got mine in an Amazon promotion that included LG AN-WL100W Wireless Media Kit, which I was skeptical about. It actually works great, with one caveat: you cannot have a 5ghz router nearby, as it seems to interfere with the signal. Also, If you have a Logitech Harmony one remote this Tv has all kinds of problems switching inputs. It's a long story but suffice to say myself and logitech tech support couldn't get it to work.I love the video quality with blu-ray, and the 24hz with blu ray works great. All in all I would def recommend this, especially for those who are looking for a good value.

5OH MY GOD AMAZING TELEVISION
By M. Moskowitz
This television is truly something to be admired. I'd say it's also a work of art.I have a high definition cable box with an HDMI cable to the TV and the HD channels are superb. I mean, the picture is totally 100% crystal clear. I have windows behind me and somehow there is virtually no glare. Yes, the TV looks better when it is dark outside versus light outside but it's perfectly great when it is light outside.I'm writing this review on my couch. My laptop is connected to the TV via a VGA cable with a wireless keyboard and mouse. Unfortunately my laptop does not have HDMI but I can see very well with the VGA cable. Needless to say, I am going to become much more lazy as a result of this TV.The 40 inches is great for my viewing pleasure. I'm sure 46 is bigger but I am 100% content with 40 inches. It comes down to price. I did not want to pay more than $1,200 for a TV (that's $100 a month for 12 months using the Amazon Store Card). So this was a no-brainer for me.If you are in the market for a TV, I highly suggest this one. It is truly a wonderful TV.The "only" thing that isn't 100% perfect is the sound. The sound is good mind you, but it is not as perfect as the picture. But for the record, I have not played with the equalizer which people report helps the sound. This is an amazing TV.UPDATE 6/12/2008: This is still a remarkable television. I don't have any complaints about it at all. Even the sound is perfectly fine. However, you MUST either have a Blu Ray player or an Upconvert player with an HDMI cable to get the full benefit. Everything looks and sounds perfect on this TV.UPDATE 7/13/2008: The TV is still perfect so just buy it already! I actually bought a 26" 3-series for my bedroom. I don't notice too much of a difference; I am happy with this "worse" TV as I am with my living room TV (this one). Samsung makes an excellent LCD television!FINAL UPDATE 3/19/2009: Well I've had this TV about a year and I can honestly say it still is great. The sound is great, too. But... in retrospect, when it comes to TVs, bigger is better. A year ago this TV was $1,200 and I just paid it off this month. But if I could have gotten a 42" or a 46", then that would be better. Don't get me wrong, the 40" is great, but what's wrong with a few extra inches? Either way you can't go wrong with the LCD 5 Series from Samsung.

5Beautiful Picture - Great Service
By Rob. B
One of my biggest purchases with Amazon and it went as smooth as possible. The picture on this TV is amazing. FiOS HD can be almost too much pretty on one screen with this TV, it's a bit overwhelming at first. Standard def channels are of course a less clear but better than expected. The only issue I have with this TV is the length of time to power on and off. You also have to point the remote just right sometimes or the function won't register. Small issue though, hardly worth docking points off this unit. The menu is wonderful and gives complete control over settings. Each input saves your settings too! The AVS Forums have a great thread concerning settings for each input that should be checked out and tested. A little tweaking got the black levels and skin tone just right.I haven't tested the VGA input, but my Macbook Pro connected with a DVI-HDMI cable is amazing! My FiOS is connected via HDMI and as I mentioned, quite beautiful. I also have a Wii hooked up via component. The Wii maxes out at 480p but really shines on this TV despite the 1080p native res. Don't be fooled though, the picture is a little fuzzy but through some tweaking you can get a great picture without springing for a separate upconverter.Shipping was of course through Eagle/CEVA. Make sure to call and verify they've got your info. They didn't have my phone number on record at first so I corrected that. My delivery man was Rick. He was great! He called to setup the appointment, was on time, very delicate with the unit, and very personable. I couldn't be more pleased.UPDATE: Just wanted to mention the finish of the screen. Originally, I was debating between this model and the older lnt4069fx due to the matte screen. I chose this model for several reasons. First, it was cheaper. Second, I decided 120Hz wasn't worth the extra 400 bucks. Third, the screen isn't glossy but it isn't matte it's more of an in-between, satin-like finish that works great in my TV watching room that has a glass front door to the outside and 2 windows. Glare isn't a problem at all for me even with lamps behind me. It really is great. The ultra gloss on the 600 and 700 models are way to much for my multipurpose room. Hope that helps anyone on the fence that cares about gloss vs. matte finishes.

2Caution: Known HDMI issue
By J. R. Wechezak
I purchased the Samsung LN40A550 40" 1080p LCD HDTV on July 14, 2008. It's my 4th big screen HDTV purchase but my first 1080p box. Agree with other reviews in that it has an absolute beautiful picture at a very good price. There are many features I love about this TV, but here's the problem....I purchased a Samsung 1080P8 upconverting DVD player with an HDMI (version 1.3) cable. When i watch a DVD, i get a 'searching for signal' message that appears on the screen for about 5 seconds. This happens once every minute or two! I went into full troubleshooting mode by replacing the cable, the DVD player, and everything else i could think of. I tried the DVD player and HDMI cable with my other HDTV sets and it worked great. After calling Samsung technical support and getting to their level 2 support in New Jersey, they acknowledged there is a problem with the HDMI connection with the TV but they do not have a firmware fix for it yet. They suggested i wait for the firmware fix (release date unknown), or return the TV and try another one. I opted to exchange the TV for the same model. I received it today and (unfortunately) it has the same problem. I will now return the TV to Amazon, get a refund, and purchase a different model.Bottom line, if you don't use or need the HDMI connection, you should be fine with this set. However, if you plan to use HDMI I'd look to a different model until this is fixed.Update on July 28 - After further troubleshooting, the HDMI problem is with the combination of using a Samsung LN40A550 40" 1080p LCD HDTV with the Samsung 1080P8 upconverting DVD player. Together, they do not work. Separately, the upconverting DVD player works perfectly with other TVs, and the Samsung LN40A550 works fine with another upconverting DVD. I purchased the same brand so i would eliminate this exact problem! Who would think that Samsung has not tested their own product compatibility before they go out the door? Exremely poor quality control - my guess is they have a problem with their 'anynet' software feature, but it still blanks-out with 'anynet' turned off. Purchase the Sony upconverting DVD player with this TV and you'll be OK. However, now I personally don't trust Samsung.
