4The best LED-lit television at a budget price
By Espy
Samsung's 2012 line of LCD televisions focuses primarily on switching their backlighting from CCFL to direct-array LED. Unlike CCFL lighting, LEDs don't diminish in brightness over time and have an incredibly long lifespan. Additionally, these sets are significantly lighter than their old CCFL counterparts which makes moving them around easier. However, this model is not edge-lit which means it's not really thinner despite the weight savings. The lights are directly behind the screen (i.e. direct-array), which many video purists prefer since it makes the lighting more even. This model does not support local dimming.Pros:1080pDirect array LED lightingDeep blacksBuilt-in WiFiVery lightweight3 HDMI ports2 USB ports (including 1 that has extra power for portable hard drives)Great DLNA support and file playback support (including 720p MKV files!)Keyboard and Mouse support via USBCons:Semi-glossy screenLackluster soundLack of swivel baseNo S-Video portU.I. is consistently clunkySome important settings are made obscureDisplayTo start off, the display is fantastic. Colors are rich and the blacks are deep. The set only supports 60hz, but I have never really found myself needing more than that. The lighting is mostly even, but there is noticeably dimming in the corners of the set. The screen is semi-glossy, which I dislike greatly because I can see reflections of myself or the room in darker scenes. Glare from windows is also pretty obvious, so definitely factor that in about where to put this set before you buy it. The bezel which actually makes it look smaller than it is for some reason. The controls for the set are a 4-way joystick hidden under the bottom right side of the bezel.SoundThe problem with thinner TVs is that sound suffers. My last LCD TV was a regular CCFL set and it had excellent sound. I am not an audiophile at all, but I can't find an audio setting I like for watching regular TV or movies. Either the dialogue is drowned out by music with heavy bass, or you can hear the dialogue (with added bass) and the music is barely audible. I fiddled around with a lot of settings and I just can't find one I like. After a few weeks I've gotten used to it, but for the first time ever I'm considering getting a stereo system to get "normal" sound back.ConnectivitySamsung has reduced the number of HDMI ports on their cheaper, no-frills models to encourage people to upgrade to their more expensive lines. The "dumb" models only have 2 HDMI ports, this one has 3. Additionally, it seems as though no models support S-Video any more, and this set integrates composite and component into one set of ports. There are two USB ports, one of which is labeled as the "hard drive" port because it supplies extra power. WiFi is built in, and I'm able to stream content from YouTube without stuttering or buffering. The TV can download and apply updates very easily, too. After the last update, file playback includes 720p MKV files, although options during playback are limited. DLNA support is fantastic, but refreshing of file lists doesn't work very well. The menu has settings that allow for mouse and keyboard control via USB, which is useful if you use searches a lot in the smart TV apps. It would be great if you could sign into Samsung's app site and click which ones you want to download rather than doing it from the TV. The interface in general is kind of clunky.OverallIt's a great buy. Lots of connectivity, access to smart apps (I enjoy the YouTube one, Netflix is also available and they are adding more). Definitely recommended.Tips and CaveatsIf you plan to use this as a monitor, make sure you label the source as "PC" of some kind. This removes a lot of post-processing. There is also a "Game Mode" under general that makes the display more responsive, but the downside to using this mode for me is that audio is stuck in "movie" mode which is very bass heavy.

5First 5 rating for this TV
By Seetha
I really love this TV. This is my first flat screen TV. I did a lot of homework before zeroing on this TV.I purchased it based on the following features: - It is a smart HDTV, LED - 60Hz and this year's model available at considerably better price as compared to even last year models with similar features. Though, I would have been very happy if I could have closed the deal at $ 650 :-pI did see the earlier reviews for this TV but most seemed like user training issues. The sound/picture quality is excellent. Picture quality will seem dull with the eco friendly setting of Standard. However, it is configurable per your liking and the user manual is very effective in identifying and setting up your needs. 3 HDMI + 2 USB availableSetting up Network/WI FI is also very easy.Depending on Internet speed, the smart TV works good. Youtube videos does not stream so fast for me directly through the TV but when I connect to my laptop through HDMI, it just works fine.Movies through Netflix are great. No 3D but I did not want it. The LED TV comparison chart that Amazon provides is very helpful in determining what features you need and what you do not need. The Kids stories is very useful for my 3 yr old son. Recently saw our first 1080p HD movie "Journey to the center of the earth" and it was GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Movie files with .vob,.avi and .wmv works perfect. I have not tried others yet. Even, if some do not work, there are many sites where we have converters available. So this is not a big deal too.On the whole, it is a great TV with very good features. Its a good tradeoff between the basic models this year and the higher end versions which made it attractive for me. I did not have to settle for a lower less feature version nor wanted to go for umpteen number of features with a higher version costing above 1000 bucks.

5Update - Now has Amazon VOD Support
By G. Peck
As many others have pointed out, this set has great picture quality. However, you will really have to work at it. Out of the box the picture looked awful and I was ready to return this set. Then I was lucky enough to find a review by "Gordon" for the Samsung UN32EH5000. I used the exact settings he specified and now the picture looks great. His settings are:Mode: DynamicBacklight: 18Contrast: 85Brightness: 50Sharpness: 80Color: 70TInt: G/R 50/50Standard color tone with screen fit in the additional options, with HDMI black level set to low.I just finished the latest software update and Amazon Video on Demand has finally been added!

5Very impressive
By M. Bentley
Ordered on Monday night and received on Thursday with FREE shipping from TigerDirect! The box showed a weight of 50 lbs which is pretty light for a 47" flat panel. The picture and colors are really excellent. I'm too cheap to spend $300 on a Blu player but Time Warner HD and standard DVD's look very nice. Can I say the image is better then an LG, Sharp, Samsung etc?? I think with any one of those brands, I'd probably be saying the same thing. Toshiba quality is hard to beat and I really wanted the USB/SD card slot for showing pictures. I've played MP3's from my thumbdrive and even viewed some AVI files. The JPEG picture display from my memory stick was excellent but their 'browser' seems to be a little buggy because now I'm having some trouble trying to get it to recognize the image files again.PROS:Not too heavyUSB/SD card slot (for JPEG, MP3, AVI etc)4 HDMISwivel standBeautiful colors & pictureCONS:may need a firmware update for the picture browserthis is not a 'narrow bezel' model6-1-09: I'm a bit disappointed because the picture viewer from an SD card or USB flashdrive still does not work. I've contacted Toshiba and they say they are 'still working on it'. If you go into the store to buy one of these, take a thumbdrive (or SD card) and test this out first.

5Excellect TV and value
By Joe D
I'm a little puzzled by some of the comments appearing in other reviews regarding the TV's size and bezel width. I don't know what other folks are measuring, but the Lagoon style framing is not particularly wide and the TV measured with a tape measure is 46" outside to outside horizontally, the diagonal is 47" viewing area.As a TV plugged into an HDTV cable box, the unit came up and set up in a couple of minutes on component or HDMI connection. The image is very bright, clear and colors are vivid. The CrystalCoat high contrast screen coating does a great job of killing reflections even in a room that has a good deal of natural daylight sreaming in through lots of windows. On HDTV, the screen is completely filled with no odd bars, lines or other distractions.I've added a Sony 589W DVD and sound system with wireless rear speakers. It was inexpensive, but the wireless rear speaker sound is clean, no problems with other networks and other devices in the house degrading sound. Where Sony likes to ignore equipment manufactured by other companies, the Toshiba easily connects to and controls the Sony receiver. When watching DVD's or TV the combination of the two perform admirably. My TV was manufactured in March and had a firmware bug that triggers the quick set up dialog box every time the set is powered on. The work around is to disconnect the cable box, connect cale directly to the TV and let it auto program channels. After this, the TV will start without the quick set up prompt. I called Toshiba and they sent a firmware update on a USB drive that plugs into the TV and auto updates the firmware and also fixes the problem.Consistent with other reviews, delivery took literally a few days by general freight, the package was in perfect condition as were the contents. We are very happy with the product and Amazon. If there is one thing I would like to see added to the product, it would be an optional extended warranty. I know other companies offer these types of products, but there would be more peace of mind if offered by the manufacturer.

5Toshiba Back in The Race
By HowardM
I purchased this TV from Amazon last week. Shipping was fast, less then a week (including the weekend). The TV was well packaged, but shame on Toshiba for not making it one of those boxes where you basically lift the top of the box off the TV and its just sitting on the bottom base of the box for easy removal. The TV itself is amazing looking. I actually went to Best Buy and checked it out before ordering, and it was sitting in-between a bunch of Sony's and Samsung's and I actually thought the picture looked better then both of those brands. Though its hard to tell at these retail stores since they usually get paid to hook the expensive TV's up to a Blu-Ray player and the cheaper TV's up to the cheapest cable/source they can find.So far I've used my Xbox 360, my Blu-Ray Player, my Wii and Digital Cable on this TV and everything so far looks awesome. There is no lag at all while gaming. The TV has a mode for gaming, but honestly I couldn't tell it made any difference because the games looked great on all of the modes.HD Cable looked great, watched some hockey, no ghosting or jittering at all. I've never owned a 120hz LCD let a long a 240hz, so I can't compare the two, but its definitely better then the old 60hz LCDs.I only own 1 Blu-Ray movie (Beowulf) but watching it on this TV connected to my Sony Blu-Ray player it looked amazing. Regular DVD's upscaled on this player to 1080p also looked amazing.Standard cable looked ok, Toshiba claims Resolution+ up scales regular TV to higher quality, but I'm not really convinced. Though I really haven't watched enough standard def to truly judge. The TV is very light, I think it weights about 50 pounds with the stand. I love the swivel base and the connections all seem to be layed out nicely, I also like that it has both a USB and SD slot on the side. The deep lagoon border around the bezel is interesting it almost gives it a 3d look, I think it would look a lot cooler mounted on the wall, but mines just sitting on a stand. My only real con about this TV is the size. Its a 47 inch but the bezel is large, bringing it almost to 52 inches when measured horizontally.I've only had this TV for 3 days now, but I can honestly say it looks like Toshiba has finally gotten back in the game and launched a nicely priced and highly competitive TV to the market.

3Nice TV but!
By D. J. Bonventre
Very impressive picture but I have a few comments concerning the voltage and the setup menu. The power requirement is 12VDC not 120VAC. The converter that came with it will have to be replaced at some point and if outside the warranty period, you will be out of pocket a considerable amount of money. The Amazon site was silent on this. The $6/yr operating cost is a great sales pitch but where was the specification on the DC power and the converter requirements or information on price and availability of the converter. I surmise the reason it is not dual voltage is because LG wanted to cut cost and not include a power supply within the TV. Ok, fine, but be upfront about it. In general, the manual is not very detailed. The setup operation asks for either antenna or cable. However, when you choose cable and run the channel scan it scans all available channels including the off the air channels and imprints them in memory. Then you have to delete the unwanted channels. The deleting process is tedious and frustrating because after each deletion it takes you back to live tv and the process starts all over again. I am on the fence on whether to return the tv primarily for the power requirement feature and the hassle of replacing a major part in the future not to mention the cost.

5Wow...
By The Drowning Man
I purchased this to replace a 23" Samsung LCD TV. The Samsung was top of the line in 2005 and the LG shines in comparison. The Screen is 3" bigger at 26" but actually takes up slightly less real estate on my wall. I needed a smaller simple set with excellent picture and this one does it for me. It doesn't have the inputs and outputs that my Samsung has but it is mounted on the wall in my bedroom and is not part of a home theater system so all of those features weren't needed anyhow. It has 2 HDMI inputs, 1 Component and 1 Composite.... really all one would need however it does not have audio out.The picture is quite impressive. I have the larger LG 55" 3D TV in my family room and the picture on the smaller one looks almost as good. The fact that it is only 720p is meaningless in anything under 40" unless you are right up close.Best of all for my needs is the fact that it is one of the most energy efficient for its size. The estimated annual cost is $6. Yep 6 BUCKS! I have a solar home so every watt I save helps justify the cost of the system. All in all a great TV.

3A couple of irritants
By EdP
I'm using this LG in my kitchen area. Although I have cable, I do not have the cable box, so I receive just the standard 70-or-so channels available and no HD. I have no complaints about the picture or sound - quite capable and all I need in a kitchen TV.However there are two things about this TV I find irritating. One is the channel selection procedure. Let's say you want to punch in channel 53. Pressing the '5' displays the "Similar Channel List", a drop down list of every channel that begins with '5'. Press '3' and a full five seconds later, the channel changes. If the TV was already on channel 53 when it was turned on (and you didn't know it), pressing '53' displays the typical off-channel snow activity with an incredibly loud static hiss. What is this thing thinking about that takes it five seconds to switch channels? My cable box on another TV doesn't take that long and it's slow at most everything.BTW - Using the channel settings, I deleted all the TV channels, all the CADTV channels, and all the CATV channels I do not watch. The other irritant is the remote's physical design - it's about as stable as a canoe. When working in the kitchen, I often want to quickly hit a single button (mute usually), but that flips the remote over. It was an irritant easily remedied by replacing it with a Radio Shack remote I had hanging around the house.

5Priced to please
By T. Campbell
My wife and I bought this TV at Walmart for $548. It is our first HDTV. We looked at a lot of them in various stores. I did a considerable amount of research and we finally decided on this one. Thought about a 120HZ model but didn't want to spend the extra money. It fits our budget and we are very satisfied with the quality and functionality. Don't have a blu-ray player yet but have watched standard DVDs with component video connection and picture quality is very very good. Streamed a Netflix movie or two in from our PC via HDMI cable and have viewed a considerable amount of satellite and over-the-air programming for the last month or so. Both standard def and HD picture quality, very nice. The volume leveling function is not perfect but it does help quite a bit. Sound with built-in speakers is good. Menus are user friendly and easy to navigate. Overall we are very pleased and would recommend this product to others.

1You get what you pay for
By James L. Zhang
Yes, that old saying is very true. Little after a year of buying the TV, it stopped working. Contacting Vizio was no help at all for "after warranty support". I received one generic message telling me that they could not do anything to help, and I should contact one of the "authorized repair vendors". It would cost $120 just to get some one to come and check the TV. If they need to replace parts, it could cost hundreds more. This is my 5th flat screen TV. My oldest Philips plasma TV is still working after close to 8 years. My mother-in-law bought a Vizio plasma TV about 3 years ago, it just died recently too. They must have really poor quality assurance. If you HAVE to purchase this TV, you should buy extended warranty, maybe from a local store. Personally, I would stay away from all Vizio products in the future.Update:In response of last comment, I decided to make an update. I took some time to take apart the entire TV. One of the board had a shorted out IC. It was a board made by LG. Searching the internet showed that there were none in stock at any of the replacement parts vendors. I also found out that it was a common problem with this TV. Without boring every one with technical details, it basically boils down to the power supply exceed the threshold of certain parts, causing they to overheat and burn out. The problem is so wide spread, that the supplier of the parts could up keep up. The price range from $150 to $200 for the board. If you pay some one to do it, the cost would be another $100 to $200 more.At this point, I am just going to drop off the bundle of parts at local Costco warehouse for recycling. The internal parts were mostly made by LG, some were made by Toshiba and other vendors. Vizio is a relatively new company. So this type of integration issue is expected.

5Love my new tv
By Debby Miller
I ordered this TV after hours of reseaching the different brands of Flat Screen LCD (and plasma) TV's. I chose this one based on the excellent reviews that the professional reviewers gave it. Their main comment was that it was a good value for the price. It has a lot of options that you would expect on higher end TV's. It was very easy to hook up too. I'm a 5 foot lady whose husband was out of town when it was delivered. It wasn't too hard or heavy for me to unpack and hook up. Another good thing is that I have not had to use the instruction book at all yet. The buttons on the remote are easy to understand when trying to access different features of the TV.One thing that seems small, but is something I really like is that when you hit the 'on' button, the Vizio logo changes from white to orange so you know the TV received the signal. It only takes a couple seconds for the screen to display, but you could actually turn it back off thinking you didn't hit the button right without that signal.

5Quality product, fair price
By Donna Hoffner
Television was easy to set up. Had Netflix up and running over wifi in minutes.Picture is clear and crisp, tiny amount of light bleed on pure black screen, but have not noticed it on any of the content I have viewed yet. Has a superb viewing angle.Used built in speakers to test their functionality, they are of average quality. I would say for casual watching they are adequate. I choose to use the digital optical to an amplifier to use the web apps. The built in apps provide great functionality although the webtv application itself seems to not flow very well and has considerable lag while rotating through the list of available applications. The set itself is thin, and as a package I would say it is very aesthetically pleasing. The base feels solid and the on-set buttons are easy to press. I would say the remote, while providing plenty of functionally, it's physical shape seems awkward.I am so far very impressed and glad that I made this purchase. Also, at this price with built in wifi and web applications it feels like a steal.

4Great for the price
By Sumeet Kumar
Following are my observations1) Picture quality not upto the standard of Samsung, but not bad either. This is noticeable in a showroom where both TV's were placed side by side. I tinkered around with the settings of toshiba and was not able to reproduce picture quality of samsung (UN46D6300). But on its own, the picture quality is very enjoyable and definitely acceptable.2) Speakers are substandard. Will not be enough for a large living room.3) For the price, this TV has lots of features (For e.g. wifi internet support, helps in reducing one wire going to my TV).After using the TV for couple of weeks, I can say that I will make the same choice again, and do not regret this at all.

1Want to love it, but significant flaws!
By G. Shockey
*UPDATE*It it now December 22 and I finally came to a solution with Toshiba. This nightmare is finally over, after various tech visits, 2 panel replacements (with the second one being DOA) and a board replacement, and close to 6 months of fighting and arguing with Toshiba I have received a store credit for toshiba-direct. Not as good as a full refund, but I'm glad just to get rid of the thing. During the second panel replacement a helpful tech had the television apart during a repair and informed me the issues I was having was unacceptable and the wiring/connectors they used were the flimsiest and cheapest he had seen. He had to call and request a 3rd panel replacement AND new wiring harnesses to fix issues with the wiring in the set as well. I did not have go through yet another repair, as Toshiba finally agreed to issue a credit and scheduled a pick up for the shipment.By this point I had already replaced it with a Panasonic Plasma (st30 series) and couldnt be happier! As mentioend before, I have owned previous Toshiba televisions and not had issues, but be forwarned of their decline in quality.*UPDATE*While waiting for my scheduled home service visit my problem worsened to where the sound and video would cut in and out, and dead pixels started appearing. The last service visit was a joke. After being told by Toshiba and Pinnacle services (the contractor conduct the second repair) that the main board would be replaced, rescheduling the appointment to make sure the part would be in so the tech could conduct the repair, the technician came WITHOUT the part to do a "diagnostic visit" on the television. He concluded the MAIN BOARD and the PANEL needed to be replaced, and he would order both parts.I called toshiba "Case Managers" immediately after he left. I basically refused to get off of the phone until I spoke with a supervisor, which never happened. First, James was sarcastic, not open to listening to any problem I have, and hung up on me after arguing with me that would do nothing else but schedule another repair visit. That means I would have to stay home from work yet again, and in the meantime be stuck with a faulty television which I had bought new. After being hung up on I called back and spoke with Brianna, who I had the same result with. She was rude, closed off, and acted like I was a bother to interrupt her day. This resulted in me being hung up on again because I wanted to speak to their supervisor and make a complaint against the product AND the way I was being treated by customer service. So I called back AGAIN, and after a few minutes of arguing she finally began to answer my questions. There is a serious lack of any sense of responsibility to the consumer. They both informed me they were the highest level there I could speak to, although James had to put me on hold to speak to his supervisor on my behalf. From a customer standpoint i find this ridiculous, and quite frankly lousy!I waited a couple weeks, never hearing back from Pinnacle regarding the repair so I called them. They explained only one part has been ordered and after that repair, then they can re-assess and order the panel if needed. The following day I received a follow up call from Pinnacle explaining it would probably be late October before the board was received and they can send a tech out!I will NEVER buy another Toshiba product and advise all consumers to steer clear! not only is the quality decline unbelievable, but the customer service is a joke! They obviously don't care about delivering a quality product or a decent customer service experience!*UPDATED REVIEW FROM 4 TO 1 STARS*I am so fed up with this television and Toshiba! After having my panel replaced, a wide vertical band started appearing on the left hand side of the screen, just as before. Also, I noticed the sound popping in and out on all of my HDMI inputs. This tv is GARBAGE! I have asked Toshiba to replace the unit since I paid for a NEW tv, but they insist on continuing to send out techs to repair parts. After replacing the LCD panel, the next part to be repaired is the main board. I guess we will see if that fixes the problem. I have had to miss work waiting on repair techs who do not stick to their scheduled appointments (hours late!) and would have rather just stayed with my Panasonic 37 inch (which the 46 inch Toshiba replaced). This is costing me time and money having to deal with this junk product! I NEVER had problems with the Panasonic and I will NEVER buy another Toshiba product again, I advise anyone thinking of buying this TV to stay away and purchase ANY other brand!=================================*UPDATED REVIEW FROM 2 TO 4 STARS*Toshiba agreed to change the panel and sent a repair tech to take care of the job. The old panel was obviously defective... HOORAY to Toshiba for providing the replacement so easily, BOO to 6ave for their lousy return policy. It took a little chasing down but Toshiba made it right, no questions asked. The backlight bleeding and clouding seems to be fixed, no edge-lit LED is perfect but it looks as good as it possibly could. The picture is now even and crisp, and I can enjoy watching movies in the dark again. The channel lag is still there, but firmware updates seem to have addressed the internet apps freezing and the picture controls reseting. The update also installed skype, which you can use by plugging a webcam into the usb port. Not five stars due to the channel surfing lag and the initial letdown.=================================I have owned various LCD TVs, ranging from Samsung to Panasonic to Toshiba. This is my second Toshiba television (my first LED) and I must say I will never buy another Toshiba television again. To give credit where its due, the color of the picture is great, the design of the tv is sleek and elegant, the 120hz is smooth, and the features/internet capabilities are great. BUT the flaws of the TV itself take away from the potential this TV has.The backlight bleed is HORRIBLE on this set. The right side of the screen is twice as bright as the left, which is very uneven and distracting. I have turned the backlight to ZERO and it is still very prevalent. during dark shots it looks like someone is shining a flashlight onto the face of the set. It's terribly distracting during dark movies. Forget about watching movies in the dark. The uniformity of the screen is awful. The internet apps seem great at first, but after a while there have been several lockups and the set will not allow me to access the widgets or the Net TV features. I've had to call Toshiba customer support regarding this, and reset my tv several times. Since then there have been several times that my tv picture settings have suddenly reset themselves, leaving me to recalibrate my picture over and over again. There is significant lag when changing the channels using the remote. There is at least a 3 second delay between the tuner changing stations and the picture locking in on the set. Its very annoying when trying to channel surf. I've never experienced another tv like this.I have owned a previous Toshiba television from a few years back. I had ZERO problems with it, this television has opened my eyes to the decline of quality in Toshiba products. I bought this based on my good experience with Toshiba in the past, but NEVER again.Unfortunately I bought this from 6ave (from their site) and they have ZERO return policy on tv's 37 inches and larger. They defer you to the manufacturer warranty. BUYER BEWARE.I am currently wrestling with Toshiba's warranty and service department. On Toshiba's end the phone support has been friendly enough and I've been informed a tech will provide onsite assistance but I've been given the run around by Nexicore (the 3rd party repair service). Toshiba has given me several case numbers to contact Nexicore, I have called Nexicore twice and they have no record of any case number for my situation.I really wanted to like this TV, but I just can't. this is the only TV purchase I have ever regretted. Two stars for the potential the TV had, but its a fail.

4Not bad for the price
By Angie
I previously bought an LG 42LD550, used it for a few months and was quite happy with its quality, but the 42" screen size was a little too small for my living room, so I decided to get a bigger TV instead. The LD550 has better features than the LK520 -- its internet application was one thing that attracted me, but it requires an adapter which doesn't come with the TV, so I never got to test it. I guess I don't need this feature anyway, so I returned it and bought the 47" LK520, at the same price --- it was on sale on Amazon for about 7 hundred. The shipping:This model came out in March 2011, and I placed the order in April. I guess because it is relatively new, so I had to wait 4-6 weeks for the product to be shipped. So after waiting patiently for over one month, my TV finally came. I was expecting the guys from the shipping company to open the box and let me check the TV, just like what they did when I bought the other LG model. I was surprised when they told me they couldn't open the box, and that I should open it on my own, and keep the box for a year in case I need to return it. This sounds a little weird, but I signed the delivery sheet anyway. The assembling:It only took a few minutes to assemble this TV. My brother and I laid the panel on my sofa bed with the screen facing down, and secured the base/stand with a few screws. It looks like the stand was made of some cheap plastic. I hope it's more sturdy than it looks. The look:This TV has a simple, sophisticate design. I like the matt screen and the glossy black frame. There's a small blue light on the lower right corner when the TV is on. Althought the remote control is easy to use, the design looks boring and cheap, some buttons/features seem like a duplicate to me. But I guess it's not a big deal, as long as it works.Sound quality:There are several sound modes you can choose from. It was set to "standard" by default, and the volume was low, but it was much better once I switched it to "music" or "cimema". I also turned on the "surround sound" feature. Over all I am happy with the sound quality.Picture quality:I've had this TV for about two weeks now, at first I was impressed with the picture quality -- it's crisp and clear, and the color looks very nice, just like the LD550 model. I set the picture mode to "Cinema" --the "standard" mode is a bit too bright for my sensitive eyes. Of course you can create and save your own picture mode by adjusting the brightness, color, and contrast, etc. But one day I noticed the brightness on the TV screen changed suddenly --- it went darker, then after a while it went bright again (looks similar to when there are rolling clouds in the sky on a sunny day). I didn't turn on the "inteligent sensor" and I think the lighting in my room didn't change. I did not have this problem with the LD550 model. I am not sure if I got a defective item or what. Right now I give this TV a 4 star, and hoping there's an easy fix for the brightness problem. I'll test it for a few more days and decide whether I should call LG, or return it....*** UPDATE: I found out the reason that my TV would suddenly go darker is because I had the "Engergy Saver" on (it was set to "Auto"). So whenever the sensor in the TV detects a change of lighting in the room, it'll adjust the screen brightness automatically. Sometimes the screen goes so dark I can hardly see. I am not sure how much energy it can save by doing this, but I find it annoying to me, so I turned the feature off, and the problem solved! I am glad I don't have to return this TV. I am happy with my purchase so far.

4Excellent TV
By rkay48
I have had this TV for only a few days, but it appears to be exactly what I wanted. The LK520 LG model is very similar to the earlier model LD520 (highly rated), except that the dynamic contrast is apparently a bit better for the LK520(150K to 1 vs 100K), but I suspect that may not be that significant.INPUT-OUTPUTIt has sufficient inputs (HDMI, component, etc), and outputs, although I still wish these new HDTVs had a regular stereo output (ie., 2 RF outputs) so I could use them with my old amplifier. The LK520 only has 1 optical digital audio output. However, the sound from the LK520 speakers is surprisingly robust, although most will probably want more to complete the home theater experience. The LK520 also has a USB port, but I have not used this yet. The specs say you can connect your external USB devices for JPEG photos or MP3 files. (Note, this model does NOT have any internet connection capabilities--however you could hook this up to a BluRay DVD player that has this capability, if you want it).I hooked up my cable box via an HDMI cord, and the LK520 provides a clear HD picture and does well with regular SD channels also. I hooked up the TV with component inputs from my oldish DVD player, and it looked very good. (Some day I will get a BluRay, so I can see more pores, I guess, on close ups...).FEATURESThe LK520 has 120 Hz, so if you watch a lot of sports, this might be important (I don't). So maybe the 60 Hz LG LK450 might be OK for you, and save you 60-80$. However, note that the LK520 has a slightly higher dynamic contrast compared to the 60 Hz 42 inch LG LK450 (150K vs 100K).The weight is only about 35 lbs, so it is relatively easy (if a bit awkward) to carry around. Also, the screen does not seem to have any serious reflection problems in stronger lighting situations. The TV picture can be adjusted to your preferences, but I found the default settings good enough for me. It is Energy Star rated, which is good, but I found the "intelligent sensor" adjustments a bit too dark for me. However, you can adjust this as your wish.SUMMARY: I don't think you can go wrong with this excellent LG HDTV. I would rate it at 4.5 stars. Some minor limitations on audio output and the somewhat high price that I paid at a big box store (BB) made me give it a 4 instead of 5.I may update this if I find any problems later....

5PERFECT!!
By KJcool
skip intro and specs because you guys can find those anywhere onlinei read through all the reviews before i bought this TV and it helped a lot. Hopefully this would help as well. Some features are tested and here is the quick review:-120HZ TruMotion works perfectly, way better than 60HZ and other 120HZ TVs, PS3 (black-ops and Top Spin 4) and 3 1080P videos (scene, sports and concert) tested.2.4ms response time makes everything so smooth.-REALLY Stunning picture, color depth-good, brightness-good, high contrast 150,000:1 (12 HD pictures tested, each of them was at least 15 MB)-SOUND quality is better than i thought. APE format music tested (classical, rock concert, heavy metal, R&B and Pop) I thought it was gonna be the only weakness for this TV because 80% LCD TVs having bad sound quality. But it turned out that the Invisible Speakers worked pretty well, extra speakers are not needed for bedroom use unless you want to get extremely HD sound-Easy to set up. UI friendly.-HDMI works. PC-INPUT works. USB works. BTW, that USB UI is great!-Price: $659 on amazon was even cheaper than $669+tax at WalMart. two days shipping as guaranteed as always.GREAT deal over all. Couldnt be happier so far. Would recommend this product for friends. Will update if any problems pop upthis is my first product review..Thanks for reading.
