5Best Picture I've Ever Seen
By Kenneth Cooper
I've owned this 58VT25 for a few weeks now. HDTV broadcasts and Blu-ray video are just amazing, not to mention the very excellent 3D seen from Direct TV broadcasts. And by the way .. There are no grayish backgrounds where one would expect black. On this TV, blacks are BLACK. Also, on mine, there isn't any, "buzz" (someone here reported hearing a buzz) or any sound other than program content regardless of how close I get to the TV. If there was, I would call Panasonic's repair service. One thing I learned early on is, don't mess with the color adjustments on this TV right off the bat; wait a few days for the TV to stabilize then adjust if you feel the need. The color realism on this TV is extraordinary. Being typically an early adapter, I've owned a few other plasma TVs. My gripe with my earlier Panasonics is .. I could never get the reds quite right (leaned toward crimson), and there always seemed to be just the slightest greenish hew. Yes .. I'm picky .. kind of a perfectionist I guess. The reason for my having owned several TVs over the recent past is because those before never seemed quite right. This one though is a keeper. If there's any gripe at all it's with watching non-HDTV broadcasts. They look great, but I think they looked even better on the TV I replaced this one with. But broadcasters are all switching over to HD so that little complaint will never cause me to continue in my early adapter ways. This one, I'm sure, will stay in my house until one of us passes away (I'm a few years into retirement). And by the way, I will edit this review if any negatives become apparent on this TV over time.

5Stunning HDTV!
By Rijeka Solar
Having previously owned a 4 year-old Panasonic Plasma that was only 720p, this TV is truly a treat - the black levels are outstanding, THX mode for color settings provides great out-of-the-box viewing experience. As to the buzzing that others have alluded to. Plasma TVs buzz, more than LCDs, it is a known fact. Panasonic refers to their "10 foot rule" meaning that you shouldn't be able to hear the buzzing at a distance of 10 feet. Mine had a horrendous buzzing which varied in intensity based on the scene - Panasonic service had a repairman out to me in no time, and it turned out to be a bad ferrite core - something ironically meant to suppress buzzing. That issue having been promptly fixed, the picture quality is amazing, especially with a 1080p feed (pop in a BluRay DVD like Planet Earth or Life and just drool as you watch it on this TV). I have to admit I haven't tried the 3D aspects yet apart from unpacking the glasses and trying them on. They seem rather flimsy and oddly constructed (two weird interchangeable nose pieces, neither of which seem too comfortable). However, I don't care if I never use them, but admittedly I bought the TV for its other features, such as size, resolution, black levels, picture quality, etc, and it doesn't disappoint!

5Great TV, 2D & 3D pictures both crisp with great color
By K. Salinger
We recently purchased the 58" Panasonic 3D HDTV. We were planning on a different unit that was not 3D. However, when we were checking them out at the electronics store they had a special on this TV that included a free Panasonic 3D bluray player with extra 3D glasses and two movies as well. Upon review we discovered that this TV was the top pic for ZD Net's 2010 Plasma TV's for 2D and 3D both so we figured we couldn't go wrong with this unit. Our previous TV was a 50 inch LG Plasma that exploded and died one night, so when considering new TV's we revisted the whole LCD vs. Plasma debate before settling on a Plasma again. I highly recommend you go into a store with multiple TV's, as there is indeed a difference in the look of the images between the technologies in addition to some weird artifact on the screens with the LCD TV's (at least to our eyes). When we were just reading about the TV's we thought for sure we'd end up with an LCD. However, once we were looking at them side by side we had no question that plasma was the right look and "feel" for us. (We compared both old style LCD and the LED LCD styles with the Plasmas)I'm not an AV expert, so I can't talk all the technical details. However, I've discovered that I'm definitely someone who appreciates the feel of film that you get with plasma over the more slick, soap opera look of the LCD screens. However, if you like very bright pictures the LCD might be right for you.All in all, suffice it to say that we love our new Panasonic plasma TV. It far out performs our old LG plasma. When shopping for it, it also seemed to out perform the other plasmas and LCD's in the big box electronics store when we assessed them side by side. (which I strongly recommend you do).If you're excited about 3D, you may want to read my short review about the 3D glasses you need when watching 3D movies. Panasonic TY EW3D10U - 3D glasses - active shutter We were disappointed to find that the fit and comfort of the glasses are terrible for those who have a more petite, narrow bridge of the nose. (Many women and children) To the point that it definitely interferes with enjoyment of watching the 3D movies.Summary: Great TV, received top rating by ZD Net for both 2D and 3D, visually the picture looked the best when compared to other plasmas and LCD's in the big box electronic store. However the 3D glasses by Panasonic offer a terrible fit, so check them out when considering 3D.

4Great 40", Great price!
By William P. Clark
This is a great TV, especially for the price. My main TV is a nice 42" LG and this one is not quite on par with the LG, but still a darn good TV.Pros: Price, picture, sound.Cons: Cheap remote, slow channel change.Note: Like other reviews here you'll find that out of the box this TV is dark. If you try to increase the Backlight you'll find that nothing happens. That's because the Backlight settings are turned off by Energy Saver.Go into Setup and turn Energy Saver OFF and now you can adjust your Backlight and get a nice looking picture.Replace the cheap remote with a better one and you're all set. (The remote really is horrible)

3Mostly good
By J. Warren
This flat screen is very bright. The colors are clear with good even saturation. No dead pixels. Very easy to set up. The stand is sturdy and even though the flatpanel is rather light it feels very solid.Sadly I had to deduct two stars for four reasons.1. It's VGA PC input is incapable of 1920x1080 at 60Hz. If an $87.oo 21" LCD Acer screen can take full HD through VGA then so should a $400.oo LCD screen.>>>>>>Turns out that TOSHIBA has intentionally crippled Full-HD through the PC/VGA input. The RGB Component input can take Full HD though.Crazy huh? Why would TOSHIBA do this? It's quite annoying to lose an essential input. The VGA input can only properly display 4:3 resoltions.2. The only analog (RCA) sound output option is a bit noisy, (lots of hiss). Hooking up to non-optical equipped receivers is a waste of time.3. Remote control has poor responsiveness, often needing repeated button pushing and hard mashing to work.4. PC hook up though HDMI was more succesful, but took a lot of patience and repeated efforts for only marginal success. (read instructions closely)>>>Update July 18th 2012.Screen began taking longer and longer to reach full brightness. Something appears to be wrong with the CFL backlighting system. This recent problem coupled with the lack of a usable VGA PC input has led with me no recourse other than to send it back. This model is one the best selling on the web, and for most people it's a good product. I just got a bad one.If you don't need a VGA input or a clean analog audio output then this screen's positives outweigh its negatives.

5Great Bargain TV
By Tim
First realize that the dimensions where entered in error. This TV is not 1.8" but actually 3.9" without the stand. That is what you would expect for a TV this size anyways. This TV, unlike most TV does have a auto dimmer to help save energy and the life of the screen. I find it to operate a little cheaply, and enjoy the picture much more with the auto-dimming off. As a reference, I own a high-end HDTV as well and that one I left the auto-dimming on as it performs wonderfully. The picture on this TV meets my expectations for a cheap TV, the blacks and whites are decent and the 60Hz performs nicely. I do like that they actually put some effort into this unit with the ability to produce clear sound with what they call Audyssey Premium Television. I haven't noticed that the sound is better than average, but more importantly I haven't noticed the sound is bad. A 40" at $400 is a great buy and hard to beat.

Panasonic VIERA TC-P60GT30 60-Inch 1080p 120 Hz 3D Plasma HDTV

Product Description

Sixty inches of beautiful screen - that's what Panasonic's TC-P60GT30 has going for it. With its appealing combination of performance and value, it's a great way to enjoy a theater-like viewing experience at home. Connect a 3D Blu-ray player, don a pair of 3D glasses, and watch as the movie action bursts through the boundaries of your screen. Since 3D content is still scarce, you can use this set's 2D-to-3D conversion feature to add a nice sense of depth to 2D programs. Even standard 2D video viewed without glasses looks stunningly beautiful.

5Best 50" picture quality in the U.S.
By Andon M. Coleman
With SONY and JVC no longer manufacturing their phenomenal high-end CRT HDTVs, and Pioneer out of the Plasma business, the pursuit of picture quality is not as simple as it once was. Rest assured, however, that there are still a handful of manufacturers (i.e. Panasonic, Samsung, LG, ...) still investing in Plasma technology, because LCD is a giant leap backwards in terms of picture quality. When Pioneer - the previous undisputed leader in picture quality - left the industry, they sold their Plasma technology to Panasonic. While the amount of Pioneer technology (if any) present in Panasonic's current line-up is a matter of debate, most critics will agree that Panasonic currently holds the crown for picture quality.Viera Size Segmentation (VT30 vs. GT30 vs. ST30)------------------------------------------------I was in the market for a VT30 this year... however, in the United States, Panasonic's size options are quite restrictive. In Europe, all lines of plasma from the X up to VT are available in 42", which is the perfect size for me.In the United States, each of the 3D model lines has a different starting size: VT30: 55" - 65" (Industry leading black level, less buzzing, better speakers, 96 Hz mode for 24p, ISF calibration, ...) GT30: 50" - 65" (Better black level, +1 HDMI port and VGA input, THX certified) ST30: 42" - 65" (Entry-level 3D TV) S30: 42" - 60" (1080p 2D plasma, worse motion clarity than ST30 and no 3D support) X3: 42" - 50" (720p 2D plasma)Unfortunately, I can barely fit a 50" TV where I have my GT30. I made the conscious choice of buying a TV slightly larger than I would have liked, because the GT30 buys you THX mode (which does a _really_ good job with skintones), an extra HDMI port, and a slightly lower black level than the ST30.Picture Quality---------------Getting back to picture quality, I have a SONY Super Fine Pitch FD Trinitron (CRT) set in my bedroom that I use as a benchmark for image quality. The GT30 does not have the pure black level or white performance of the CRT (or even many local dimming LCDs). However, color accuracy and black gradiation (i.e. being able to see fine details in shadowed scenes) are actually better than my calibrated CRT.Unenhanced motion clarity is indistinguishable between the two sets, and the GT30 earns a lot in this respect when it comes to displaying 24 fps material (48 Hz mode causes flickering, but even with simple 3:2 pull-down, the TV displays 24p video well).Panasonic has added a more advanced Motion Smoother this year, with two levels - it creates artificial motion enhancement similar to LCD 120/240 Hz, and therefore has limited appeal.Physical Appearance-------------------Typically I do not care about the physical appearance of a television (which is why I still prefer high-end CRTs to flat panels), but the design of this TV is definitely worth mentioning... compared to last year's GT25 model, this TV is lightyears ahead. The bezel has been shrunken on all sides of the panel, and the depth is equally impressive. Were it not for the speakers, and clunky stand, this TV would be about an inch deep. As a result, the television requires "break out" cables to attach analog audio/video devices, and the total number of analog inputs has been reduced to 3 (Component, Composite and VGA D-Sub). This does not bother me at all, since the only analog device I have connected to any of my TVs is a Nintendo Wii. The extra HDMI port more than makes up for it.I would also like to give kudos to Panasonic for putting the power button on the FRONT of the TV this year (it was on the side last year).Long-term Value (Viera Connect)-------------------------------Viera Connect is a promising new feature for 2011, that is essentially an evolution of Viera Cast.Consumers can look forward to a growing software base in the future (as Software Engineers like myself develop software for the new open platform). The beauty of this new platform is that it operates independantly of official firmware release schedules. This is important, because firmware updates for aging products are few and far between - 2010 and older Viera models will likely NEVER receive support for Hulu, etc...With this TV, two or three years from now, consumers can still download new or updated Viera Connect applications from the Viera Connect marketplace. Another thing I found nice about Viera Connect's marketplace, is that you can buy TV accessories (such as 3D glasses, SD cards, etc...) directly from software built-in to the TV, and rest assured that the product is compatible with your particular model.Sound-----Sound quality leaves room for improvement. This being the second-to-highest model from Panasonic, lacks the sub-woofer and higher quality speakers found on the VT line.Adding insult to injury, US Viera televisions do not have analog audio out, so to improve the audio quality you must connect them to an A/V receiver (which also draws a lot of power) that supports optical S/PDIF.In future years, I hope that Panasonic will consider improving the sound quality on the GT line.Power Consumption-----------------Power consumption is good, but definitely not great. This is the only performance measurement that local dimming LED backlight LCDs come out on top in. That said, Panasonic has redesigned the construction of their panels this year, to improve phosphor response time (reduces 3D cross-talk), and improve luminous efficiency. Remember that this TV uses tinted 3D glasses, which darkens the picture... so brightness is important in 3D.As a result, brightness is up, and power consumption is down vs. last year's model. Unfortunately, one consequence of the new design is "fluctuating brightness," which occurs when the TV transitions from a bright scene to a dark scene - in extreme cases, it can take the TV multiple frames to recognize the change in brightness and adjust its image processing. This was irritating at first, but I hardly notice it anymore.Plasma Buzz-----------On a final note, I have noticed a lot of people complaining about plasma buzz. I feel obligated to point out that the buzz is especially bad within the first 100-200 hours of operation, and decreases somewhat over time. There are a number of factors that play into the buzzing, including altitude, viewing distance and picture settings. Granted operating altitude is not easy to change, but the buzzing can be reduced by sitting farther from the TV set, and dialing down the contrast setting (buzzing is directly related to how bright an image is).A lot of people have TVs too large for their viewing distance and have contrast set way too high, and only ever realize it when plasma buzzing or dithering becomes a nusiance.Pros and Cons------------------Pros:----- Plasma image quality * Pure black level is not as good as CRT or local dimming LCD, but... images with light and dark areas really shine --> No blooming between nearby light and dark areas (LCD) --> No image geometry warping related to brightness (CRT) * Excellent motion clarity without artificial techniques like 120/240 Hz THX mode * Accurate skintones * Almost no picture setting tweaks required to get exceptionally good image quality Consistent black level * Panasonic claims that the black level will not rise after 1000+ hours of operation with 2011 models, due to manufacturing changes. Power consumption vs. Screen brightness SIGNIFICANTLY improved over 2010 models * In fact, it is so good that the 50" GT30 actually qualifies for Energy Star 4.0 Viera Connect * New in 2011, free/paid applications can be downloaded through the TV and the selection of applications will grow over time.-----Cons:----- Viera model lines segmented by size in the US * Could mean buying a TV that is too large Average speaker quality on ST30/GT30 * US Viera models do not have analog audio out --> Requires a dedicated power-hungry A/V receiver to improve on TV's speakers... Power consumption * Improved in 2011, but still nowhere near local dimming LCD performance Fluctuating brightness * Movie enthusiasts may find the delay in bright image processing frustrating... --> I have found the issue has almost no negative impact on gaming performance, or general TV viewing. Netflix Performance * Given the state of the Netflix app on Viera Connect as of June 2011, audio noticably stutters... --> Mitigated by the fact that Viera Connect will allow users to download an updated version of the Netflix app whenever the bug is fixed.Calibration-----------For those who are interested, I have had my GT30 professionally calibrated in THX mode.If you do not want to shell out $300+ to schedule a calibration on your set, but still want the best picture quality possible, the most important thing you can do is dial the color setting down to around 45. The default THX settings over saturate colors, and if you become used to the over saturated colors, you will never appreciate the advantages of a properly calibrated THX mode. Also, do not use C.A.T.S.! If you have a viewing environment that has varying levels of external light, you would be much better off maintaining two sets of picture settings. In my case, between night and day, all I need to do is adjust my contrast from 60 to 45. C.A.T.S. can detect differences in brightness, but it messes with more than just the white level. You may be tempted to set the Black Level setting in "Advanced picture" properties to dark because it looks more natural, but this causes black crushing (loss of detail in dark video). Try to learn to live with lighter blacks (this can be especially difficult if you are used to high-end CRTs) and you will begin to appreciate the amazing black performance of Plasma technology.

5Unbelievable Picture
By C. Wilson
The picture quality this TV puts out is crazy good. Colors are bright and vibrant without being over saturated and unrealistic. Blacks are inky black, and shadow detail is great as well. One of the reasons I bought the GT30 over the ST30 is the THX mode which gives really good out of the box picture without any aftermarket calibration. If you're into tweaking the picture though, there are two professional picture modes that allow very in depth picture controls.1080P Source Material with a high bitrate (such as blurays or Vudu HDX) look incredibly sharp and stunning, while not looking sharp to the point of unrealism as some LCD's look. 720P sources look very good as well if a bit softer. 480i/p sources look alright. I only spent a few minutes watching SD and the experience was unexpectedly unimpressive. Motion on the GT30 looks very smooth and realistic without displaying the terrible "soap opera effect" that 120/240Hz LCD's seem to suffer from.I tried using the Viera Cast software that Panasonic builds into these Tv's and I found to be pretty laggy. It wasn't very responsive and I found the design to be a little on the ugly side. Vizio and Samsung have much more polished media platforms built into their Tvs. It's possible Panasonic will improve performance with firmware updates in the future. If I was planning on using Viera Cast I would mark my score down but I have a Media Center PC and PS3 that replace all the functionality Viera Cast offers.3D performance is very good. So far I've watched Tron Legacy on 3D bluray and played some 3D PS3 games; the 3D picture is very immersive and THX color accuracy remains very good in 3D mode. I've had bad experiences with 3D crosstalk on a friend's Samsung C7000 LCD and it can get very annoying and distracting. Thankfully I haven't experienced any of that on the GT30 in a dark or light viewing environments.I've heard some early reports of the GT30 exhibiting floating blacks when viewing material that changes from a darker to a lighter scene suddenly. I haven't experienced any of this. I watched Black Swan on bluray to test this and black levels remained dark and consistent throughout with no slight jumps in brightness.I'm also very impressed with the design of the GT30. It's about as thin as my Motorola Droid and it looks stunning mounted on my wall. Panasonic has traditionally lagged behind the likes of Sony and Samsung when it comes to the design of their Tv's but they really stepped up their game with the GT30. Having a TV that looks almost as stunning when turned off as it does when turned on is an unexpected plus.Overall the GT30 is an incredible TV that makes no compromises when it comes to picture quality. If you want to spend more money, the VT30 it will probably improve upon the GT30 in some way when it's released but I'm having a hard time coming up with things they could improve outside of their Viera Cast platform.

5Fluctuating brightness no longer a problem; great for games
By E. J. Paul
Admittedly, I was hesitant to purchase this TV because of the mixed reviews. Many people here (and on various forums and review sites) complained of distracting brightness fluctuations that significantly detracted from the viewing experience. I decided to just go with it and I must say I don't regret my purchase at all.First, yes, the brightness fluctuations were distracting. Notice the past-tense "were" there; as in, the fluctuations are no longer distracting because they are no longer a problem. For North America, Panasonic has acknowledged and addressed the fluctuations. For sets manufactured prior to August 2011 a repair is available in the form of an SD card software update or a very simple hardware replacement (pre-updated hardware for non-Panasonic repair techs as an alternative to updating the software with an SD card). So, don't let the looming shadow of brightness fluctuations deter you from this TV--if you get a set and it is a problem, call Panasonic and they'll fix it. On the other hand, you may not even notice them at all. So again, don't let it hold you back.I discovered this TV while looking for an affordable way to pick up a quality 3D HDTV, mostly for gaming. 3D performance is very good. Many have claimed this TV is crosstalk free (crosstalk is the phenomenon where the image intended for only one eye bleeds a bit into the wrong eye causing a double-image effect), but it simply is not; however, the crosstalk is generally not very noticeable in movies and games and in the case of games you can usually adjust the strength of the 3D effect to somewhat mitigate the crosstalk. For anyone wondering if plasma tech is ok for games the answer is yes, it is fine. Some people recommend about 100 hours of "break in" before leaving any static images on the screen. I don't know if this is technically necessary but there's nothing wrong with being cautious and conservative...100 hours really isn't much time for a TV at all. Some with a critical eye may occasionally notice image retention, but it is temporary. Just be mindful about leaving static images on the screen for long periods of time (for example, don't leave a game paused for several hours...just turn off your TV if you won't be using it, you'll save electricity). Many games have health bars, maps, or other fixed images on the screen, but in my experience these don't cause long-term problems: first, the TV will imperceptibly shift pixels around to keep them changing; second, most games have cutscenes, pauses, and transitions that change up the picture frequently enough that it won't really matter. Again, just be mindful and you shouldn't have any problems. This set replaced a Sony XBR LCD from 2008 and so far (2 months of ownership) I don't miss LCDs at all. Frankly, at this screen size LED backlit 3D capable LCDs are just too cost prohibitive in my opinion. Yes the power consumption is higher than an LED lit LCD so the long-term cost of ownership is higher in that respect, but I haven't noticed any difference in my electricity bill compared to my CCFL lit LCD; so, if you're coming from an older LCD the power consumption probably won't be a lot different.

5Amazing LCD: Picture Quality, Semi-Matte Screen
By Average Joe
Background:After doing extensive research across the board, I ended up deciding I would probably like the Samsung A650 series. I went into BB to try and take a look for myself, the Full Gloss screen threw reflections all over the place, and bothered me quite a bit.Now take the guts of the A650 and put it into the same package, with a semi-matte screen. Now you have a killer combination that looks amazing on the eyes.Don't take my word for it, More Reviews:-Consumer Reports loves Samsung LCD's, which are ranked #1-Go to http://www.avsforum.com/ , check out the Forums->LCD, you can waste your life on this site, I'd say go for the Pro reviews of the A650, and you'll see why people love this TV-Check out the reviews for the A650's here on amazon, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001413D94/-Cnet's review of the A650, you will notice the only drawbacks they listed were "relatively expensive" amazon helps here, and "shiny screen reflects ambient room lighting" and the A630's semi-matte screen works to solve that issue, http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/samsung-ln52a650/4505-6482_7-32887597.html?tag=mncol;lstRecommendation:I'm very happy with the TV: the back light is even across the TV, the blacks are crisp, picture quality can't be beat, the 120hz+auto motion result in smooth images and the semi-matte screen doesn't act like a mirror for the room like the A650's do. Finally, the surrounding frame is leaner and not nearly as noticeable as the A650s.Highly recommended. 5 Stars.

5630 or 650 or 550?
By Comdet
After reading reviews in Cnet and Consumer Reports, and feedback from owners on the AVS board, I knew I wanted to get a Samsung LCD. But which one? The 550, 630 and 650 are all highly rated, and all fell within my price range.I first looked at the 550. Great TV and the lowest price. The picture quality was top-notch, but it did not have the 120hz technology and Samsung's smoothing system (called AMP) to reduce motion judder. In side-by-side viewing, I could see a difference in the picture with those features, and, since the price difference was not much, decided to move up to the 6-series.Keep in mind that 120hz and AMP are two different things. You can turn AMP off (or set it to low, medium or high); you can't turn off 120hz unless you are in game mode. I like AMP set at low -- to my eye, that improves the picture without making it too smooth and video-like.Both the 650 and 630 are fantastic TVs, and either one would be a great choice. The major difference between the two is the glassiness of the screen - the 650 has a high gloss screen; the 630 has a matte screen (basically the same as the 550, but with a tiny bit more gloss). I have a very bright living room with lots of windows. The 650 acted like a mirror, reflecting everything to the point of being seriously distracting -- you can see yourself in the screen in dark scenes. The 630 was the perfect compromise -- better quality picture than the 550, but far less gloss than the 650.The advantage of the glossy screen is that it give more "pop" and saturation to the picture. Colors are deeper, blacks are richer, and the overall picture quality is a bit better. If I was using the TV in a darker environment (such as a basement), I'd go for the 650. But given the brightness of the room, the 630 was (for me) the better choice.I've been told the sound quality in the 6-series is a bit better than the 5-series. That was not an issue for me since I turn off the TV speakers and run the sound through a receiver. If you plan on using the TV speakers you may want to listen to both sets to see if you hear a difference.Very pleased with the set so far. You need to do a bit of tweaking to get the picture perfect, but the menus make it easy to do so. You can find configuration setups on several boards that will help point you in the right direction.Other pluses of the 630 are the more muted Touch of Red in the bezel. I'm not a big fan of the red color, so having it less visible is a plus. Very nice remote with easy to find buttons.I'm using the set with a Denon 1909 receiver, an Oppo 983H DVD player, and KEF 3000 series speakers. Everything works great together and I'm continually wowed by how great it looks and sounds.

5This is the 46 inch you want, at the best price
By Scott Roberts
I have been watching LCD prices for 2 years. 40 inch LCDs have been dropping $50 per month for the last 6 months and it seems to have reached a plateau and may drop only $25 a month for the next 6 months. 46 inch has been dropping $100 per month the past 6 months and will drop $50 to $70 per month for the next 6 months. With the recession, they may still drop $100 per month.I just bought this one, but i recommend waiting 6 more months if 46 inch is "your size" because losing $50 to $70 per month is a lot just to have a bigger TV. Samsung and Sony are the best LCDs and this is (was?) the best price on a 46 inch Samsung and is as good as any other 46 inch LCD Samsung makes, but $800 less. The "better" 46 inch Samsungs are thinner, a little better contrast ("brighter"), about 8% less weight, and have something called "infolink" that brings in active content like sports scores and stock prices. The 60% increase in price for the other 46 inch Samsungs is too much difference for too little improvement. They will come down in price $100 per month until getting to this price. This 630 model is a smaller number than the 850 or 950, but the 630 is only 2 months old. This 630 model is a "matte" screen. It's for our den where there is a lot of light everywhere, so i prefer the 630 matte. The 650 is a "glossy" screen which means it can be more of stunning contrast and sharpness, but with possibly more reflection off the screen. This at $1370 is the lowest price on the internet right now, 10/6/2008 with free shipping and no tax. Circuit city is selling it for $1700 plus tax. Some are saying that the economic downturn is causing prices to drop faster than expected. I expect this model to be $1000 in less than 6 months. February might be the time to get a 46 inch LCD if that's the size and type of TV you've been waiting for.I have turned off the Auto-Motion Plus 120 Hz feature because it makes it look like I'm watching a 50 Hz BBC program. I have "fast" eyes and i can see the flicker when there is movement due to the greater sharpness that Auto-Motion Plus gives. There's something fishy about the "120 Hz" spec because the flicker feels about like 70 to 80 Hz on an old computer CRT. I suspect that with AMP "on" it's not really 120 Hz in order to give it better sharpness. So with 120 Hz turned off, there is just a little more blur on movement, but at least it doesn't feel like I'm watching an old episode of Dr Who. In hindsight, i would have bought one of the older models that doesn't have the Auto-Motion Plus 120 Hz just to save a few bucks even if there was less contrast. Samsung is really pushing this new feature, but I prefer it off. Others prefer it set to "low".The blur during movement on these new Samsungs (with or without the Auto-Motion Plus 120 Hz) is much better than the old LCDs, but it still is not as good as a CRT, plasma, or rear-projection.The contrast ("birghtness") on this is way way more than we need. The brightness needs increasing during daytime because we have a lot of sunlight coming in, and then decreased again at night.A 46 inch LCD uses 250 Watt verses 500 W for a plasma. This is the reason I choose LCD over plasma. A 500 watt plasma "heater" in the room is good for winter, but not cool for summer. 500 W costs 5 cents per hour for electricity. Now that we're not even using it on a wall, I wonder if i should have got a rear-projection.I recently saw a $1400 LCD 46 inch Sony at a target (new edit 10/12/2008). I was surprised to see Sony at a competitive price. These prices are still dropping fast.=== UPDATE ===I am a little less happy with LCD technology. In comparing the LCD to my CRT and home theatre, the LCD easily wins on sharpness and contrast (at least over the projector). But still there is something "sharper" about CRT and projection over LCD, and I prefer them over this LCD. What I have found out is this: the pixels in an LCD may be flashing at least as fast, but they do not have a "dark period" between frames so that our eyes see more blur even though in reality the screen is not blurring more. Apparently, our eyes really need the dark time between frames to eliminate the perception of a blur. Phillips ClearLCD fixes this and samsung and others are working on it. 4Best HDTV You Never Heard Of
By NYCSOFTWAREMAN
Whatever you buy, you always want to get the most out of your money. So when I saw an LCD HDTV for only $330 in RadioShack. I had some doubts about whether it was a quality product. Especially since there is always concern about buying a brand name that the average consumer knows little about. Then I did some research on the. They are best known as Envision and are the world's largest display manufacturer of high quality monitors and are a leading brand in Europe. After seeing this close up in a brightly lit store. I knew if it looked good there it would play well in my living room. However it was playing with a blu-ray demo dvd. So I needed to see how it played in my home using cable TV. Knowing that Radio Shack has a 30 days No Hassle Refund Policy helped to reassure me with my purchase.A nice feature is that the base also allows the unit to swivel for a good viewing angle at any position in the room. Although to be best appreciated I would recommend sitting about seven feet away from the TV. After that your viewing angle should be fine from anywhere in the room. The AOC L32W961 is a 720p HTDV, but handles 1080p Inputs and will upconvert your standard definition DVDs using a uponverting DVD player. The 32" widescreen display that delivers an accurate 16:9 aspect ratio and up to 1366x768 resolution. This new model now has three HDMI connections which should be enough for most users. If not,you could always purchase an inexpensive HDMI adaptor to add more inputs.I attached the TV to a HD cable box and an upconverting DVD player using two HDMI cables from [...]. The remotes source button allows instant access of each connected component. Channel switching from SD to HD channels can be somewhat slow. However that is common with most HDTVs and HD cable boxes. The menu is easy enough to use to tune the picture and sound to your preferences. Using the remote , you are able to individually adjust each sound and pictures menu control with out having the entire menu on screen. Out of the box I raised the sharpness and lowered the backlight level. I adjusted the color temperature to cool and set the video noise reduction to off. The only time I have to make any adjustments is when I switch the backlight control up or down a few notches depending on the amount of light in the room at the time. The AOC has an auto contrast detection which automatically and accurately adjusts the picture. With the auto contrast detection set to on, the AOC's brightness and contrast controls seems to have little effect on the picture. The sharpness control does a fine job without adding any video noise. The picture is very detailed with the sharpness turned up just half way.Overall ,the AOC32961 shows extremely accurate color, with excellent brightness and contrast. The 6ms response time means the screen has no trouble with fast-moving, full-motion images. This is very important feature for watching sports or action movies. HD TV cable programming looks phenomenal. I get vivid color, and a bright and well detailed picture on this set. DVD's upconverted to 108oi/p look very well defined. The sound is a bit low with DVD's but it can still be set to adequate level for a standard size room. There's also a headphones input for private listening. The AOC also has a VGA input for use as a PC monitor. I have not used it that way. However I have seen videos of it on [...] showing it working very well as a PC montor.Switching between your various devices (DVD player, Cable Box, PC, TV) is extremely easy thanks to a source buton on the remote. Which brings up a list of the AOC's inputs. The current active input is higlighted in yellow. There are also buttons on the remote for each individual source input. The AOC L32W961 delivered very detailed black levels when I watched The Dark Knight DVD on a 1080p upconverting Panasonic DVD-S54 DVD player. While watching the night scenes shadow detail was very good. I could easily make out details in the Batmans black suit as he stood in the darkness. The AOC's accurate color helped make the different fles. Felsh tones very accurate. The few sunlit outdoor scenes from The Dark Knight look very bright and sharp. The Audio is better than I expected and sounds best using the "movie" preset setting.AOC seems very conservative when it comes to their specifications. However, I wouldn't be overly concerned with specifications. You will really need to see this TV and try to compare it to the major brand models costing about $150 more. If you do a blind test comparison, where you're not told which one is the more expensive. It would be difficult to tell the difference between the others. You might even pick out the AOC as the one you like the best. This AOC HDTV is rated among is rated among the top 10 LCD HDTVs by Consumer Reports. In addition to everything else this AOC HDTV earns a Energy Star logo. Tech Support by email is very good. I had a question about closed captions using HDMI cables and it was answered the next day. They also have a group on facebook if you need to contact them.

5NO ONE CAN BEAT IT FOR THE MONEY!
By Scott0949
I read nycsoftwaremans review and agree completely.I was fortunate enough to hook up the tv next to the 32" Samsung 1080p model. The Samsung costs over $150 more than the AOC! The difference in picture quality was almost non-existent.I consider Samsung one of the best quality hdtv's on the market. I think this tv is well worth the money and is on sale at Radio Shack right now.It has vivid colors, great detail and if you're 7 or 8 feet away from the screen, there's no need to adjust the angle. I was very surprised by the differences in picture quality when you adjust it for a movie or gaming or whatever. The adjustments for contrast, brightness, etc; work well. I found the "MID" (not low and not high) adjustment to work the best. One of the main reasons I purchased it, besides the great price, was that it has 3 HDMI connections. That's rare for a lot of the smaller tv's. I talked to a guy at Radio Shack and he bought one himself. He said they have had this model turned on almost 12 hours, every day of the week, for the last 5 months. He said they haven't had one problem with the tv. To me,thats says alot! I've only had the TV 5 days but couldn't be happier. You get a great bang for your buck. The only downside I can see,is the sound quality. It's actually about the same as the Samsung but I think we all know most HD's don't have the best sound. However, the TV is in a rather large room and I haven't had to turn it up to full volume yet. If you don't have the cash for a sound system, I would still reccomend it. It's good enough until you get the cash for one. The Sony 32' sound qulaity is not up to par with this set,so judge for yourself. All in all, it's a great buy and I highly reccomend it.

4Very happy with the E7000
By J. mamrosh
I purchased the Samsung E7000 a few weeks ago and am extremely happy with the picture quality and features of this TV. I had recently purchased the Panasonic ST50 but had issues and Amazon quickly and painless exchanged and took care of for me...they are outstanding. I am not a fanboy of either brand and with the ST50, couldn't get comfortable, even with the great reviews it gets. I went with the E7000 over the E8000 as the 8000 had many gadgets/apps that I wouldn't use and didnt warrant the extra cost. From reading the AVS and High Def Junkies forums, I will try to give some of my opinions on common issues/thoughts etc. - Buzzing - I have no significant buzzing or humming. All plasma's make a buzz sound from what I have read but mine does not have anything that is bothersome to myself or that my family has commented on. I have heard of some people having issues with this but I have not. I have seen/heard 3 sets (2 e7000 and 1 e6500) and none have had issues.- I have had no image retention/burn in. I do not watch something for 8 hours straight or game the day away however. I have played Call of Duty for a few hours - no issue. Family member left DVR paused for few hours - no issue. I did run the 4 day slides to break in the tv. I have read that you should so I did. Why not try to deter problems and maximize the TV?! It's a pain to wait but worth it.- Reflections from screen. The glass panel does have reflections when comparing to matte finish of LCD/LED. Thats just how it goes. This TV definitively has easily manageable glare however. In my den I have 2 sliding doors to the rear of the room which are directly opposite of the TV - about 20 feet away. It gets morning light. The sliders have built in blinds which I generally keep closed. If I didn't have the blinds, I would possibly consider drapes. With TV off, seems reflective IMO. Once I turn it one, picture masks the reflection well and I seldom have any issue. About 4 feet from the tv on the ceiling I have a fan and light. Same thing, when the TV is on, looks fine. To the left front of TV (TV mounted kitty corner) there is a window that I keep open and it doesnt affect anything- Picture - OUTSTANDING - sharp, crisp, clear, lots of adjustment, dark levels can be adjusted, brightness is there and it just right for me! Blu-ray is amazing. I enjoyed my 3 year old Sharp Aquos 52" and Samsung LCD but this TV night and day. The viewing angle is also much better than my Sharp and my Samsung. Motion blur - whats that? This is so much nicer watching fast motion than my other tvs.I watch a lot of TWC high def. tv and stream Netflix. Streaming in Smart Hub works great - very responsive and picture quality is great. I havent tried many other apps but they are plentiful. I also havent tried 3D yet.I would highly recommend this TV to friends and family with the caveat that it is a plasma, so there are some preparations and precautions that you should research a little on and be aware of. They are easily found at the two forums I mentioned above. I should also mention that after I broke in the TV, I followed some recommended settings found on CNET and then adjusted with the Disney WoW disk I bought here at Amazon. Really helped bring out the picture with some fine tuning. The cons - well, maybe there is another plasma out there that gives you a little better darks but IMHO, that doesnt make up for the clarity and sharpness of this plasma. Sound is pretty good in itself but I am used to hooking up to surround system. Every TV is going to have some weaknesses to each person, so expect something - from any brand.Hope this helps in some peoples decisions - I am no videophile but have researched and educated myself somewhat in purchasing a plasma and this one in particular. Also - be sure to register at Samsung's website for an extra 3 months warranty.Amazon delivery - out of this world. Ordered on weekend - delivered via Pilot and local carrier Thursday.

3Great picture but I can't get past the loud buzzing
By LnA
I was looking for something to replace my 52" Sharp LCD, as I moved it into a secondary room, and spent a lot of time trying to decide between the e7000 and the Panasonic VIERA TC-P60GT50 60-Inch 1080p 120Hz Full HD 3D Plasma TV. After seeing a great deal on the e7000, $1800 with a free Samsung HW-E450 Wireless AirTrack Sound Bar, I was pushed to make that my purchase. After getting the TV setup I immediately noticed the buzzing. Some buzzing in plasmas is normal but, the buzzing of the e7000 was loud enough to be distracting when sitting 10'+ away with the volume at a medium low level, although the buzzing is significantly reduced if sitting off center (>~40 degrees) of the TV. I did some searching online to see what might alleviate the issue and found a few suggestions such as lowering contrast, brightness, and cell light settings, but none of those things worked. I thought I might be able to deal with the buzz and was able to watch a blu ray version of WALL-E, which looked amazing, with the sound turned up to drown it out. After a few more days and trying a few more things I decided the buzzing was too much and called Amazon about getting a replacement, the process was quick and easy. I boxed up the e7000 and within two days they sent someone out to drop off the replacement and to take away the original. Upon powering it up, I again immediately noticed the buzz on the replacement and it is the same if not worse than on the original.Reports I've seen online indicate some people have had to go through 4 or 5 replacements before getting one with an acceptable level of buzz. So at this point I'm not sure if I want to try for yet another e7000 replacement or if I should go ahead and get the Panasonic GT50 which at the moment is priced lower than the e7000.A few notes about my TV setup:I have the TV sitting on its stand, so when sitting on the couch my head is aligned almost dead center with the TV. The buzzing is less noticeable if I stand, crouch down low, or I am off to the side. So for those of you that plan on wall mounting the TV at a height above your head the buzzing may not be an issue for you. I've also been using the sound bar through ARC(HDMI Audio Return Channel) which sounds much better than the built in speakers, but the buzz is present with or without an external speaker connected. Some other things I tried to reduce buzzing with no success: - Unplug other items from power strip - Plug TV directly into wall outlet - Move TV further away from/closer to the wall - Tried various input sources, DVR through HDMI, PS3 through HDMI, analog cable, XBOX 360 through component, and no sources connected at allUPDATE (8/8/2012):I ended up returning the E7000 and going with the GT50. Finally no buzzing! I wasn't able to compare the units side by side but the pictures seem very comparable. I will say I preferred the Samsung stand, as it swivels for the 60" while the Panasonic does not, and menus but after a few hours of use I am satisfied with the GT50 its performance and the fact that it does not have an audible buzz at viewing distance.

4Excellent "white glove" installation! Stunning picture
By Steve
Just received my PN51E7000. I was surprised that the Amazon shipping through CEVA also included "white glove" setup. The driver brought the unit into the house, removed it from the box, attached it to the stand, and powered it up to verify operation. He offered to remove the box and packaging, but I wanted to keep it just in case I need to return. This service was included in the free shipping. As for the TV itself - the picture is stunning, but I'll have to play with it for a few days.Note that it does NOT have a VGA port for connecting a computer - only HDMI. On the plus side, it does have one HDMI port that support audio return channel (ARC) to send sound from the TV apps (e.g. Pandora) back to the A/V receiver without using the digital audio output. Also, Samsung doesn't seem to have an Amazon app for streaming video.Four stars for now, but I may upgrade to five after I've had more time to judge the picture quality.
