4Nice but could be better
By Mike Hall
I'm not an expert reviewer but a reasonably knowledgeable electronics consumer. Here are my observations from a week's use of the LNT3253H. I won't repeat the specifications and the like that you can find most anywhere. I suspect that some of what I say is applicable to other panel sizes in the 2007 53 series.A successor to last year's popular 51 series, the 53 is really more of an updated version of 2006's highly rated LNS3296 with a little more contrast and one more HDMI port and a USB port. (I was told by Samsung customer service, 1-800-726-7864, that the successors to the latter line will be 1080p.)PROSSharp picture with vibrant color in HD. Subjectively: when viewing HD feeds in the showroom, the 2006 version of the Sony Bravia XBR has better picture processing than this model, and the 2007 Toshiba Regza is comparable to the LNT3253.Very high quality panel with no dead pixels. It is said that Sony and Samsung LCD panels come from the same Samsung plant. My set was manufactured (probably assembled) in Mexico.Uses the desirable Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp (CCFL) according to Samsung customer service.Nice contrast; I was told by many people, though, that dynamic contrast has a bit of marketing hype to it so just don't buy an LCD model because the dynamic contrast is slightly better than a competitor's. Sony avoids talking about it and their Bravia sets produce excellent pictures.2 RF inputs, one for antenna and the other for cable/satellite. Competitors I've seen don't have that feature in their 2007 32" sets.Digital tuner is high quality; very sensitive. Let me clarify that the digital ATSC tuner will receive analog NTSC signals. That's not entirely clear from the product specs, and competitors usually indicate their tuners are ATSC/NTSC/QAM. This HDTV does all of that.Remote is logical and easy to use; better than the 2007 Regza's (I didn't compare it to the Sony's). Nice that the Samsung recognizes input sources and allows one button scrolling through connected ones rather than having to go to a menu. Don't know if source labeling or picture settings by source are available.Audio: pretty typical, meaning not superb but adequate. For the most part, a well-engineered and elegant set with nice touches, like unobtrusive function buttons in the front (some other manufacturers like Sharp and Toshiba just don't get it that some sets will go into tight spaces like cabinets; they put the on-board function buttons on the top or side of the unit--how inconvenient).CONSThe single pedestal stand is a nice piece of engineering but could not be securely fastened to the set I purchased, so it was wobbly and, worse, made the set noticeably sag to one side. I checked two other display units in electronics stores and discovered that they did wobble. Other 32" sets from Sony, Sharp, and Toshiba, while not capable of turning on their pedestals, are solidly anchored. I don't know whether it's a design or manufacturing flaw -- or both.720p resolution, 8 ms response time, and 10-bit processing. Most experts seem to think there's really no discernable difference in 32" sets between 720p and 1080p at typical viewing distances of 8 to 10 feet. I disagree; there is a difference to my eyes. Eight ms response is good, but 6 ms is better for action scenes. Samsung touts 10-bit processing on last year's 96 series models, but not on this one (which Samsung customer service confirmed to me it has). Perhaps that's because competitors are upping the ante with 14-bit and better processing.Blacks are not as black as they should be on this set, and most annoying, there is some residual image on occasion. The test: MGM's lion logo goes immediately to black for about a second before a program begins. On my 19" Samsung Synchmaster LCD, the black stays black after the logo disappears. Same thing on my 12 year-old Panasonic direct-view (CRT) 32" set. Not so on this set; a residual reverse image of the MGM logo lingers on the black screen.Legacy analog from over-the-air analog broadcasting and VCR is substantially lower quality than on my analog set. I know that Samsung claims its engine helps make analog pictures look sharper, and they do when DNIe is turned on, but they're still disappointing when compared to a quality analog set. (Digital broadcasts and DVDs are fine; I use the excellent Sony DVP-NS75H upscaling DVD player.)An audio nit: My old Panasonic TV allowed control of the sound level output and muting of the home theater receiver from its remote. This set's remote does not do that, requiring the use of the receiver's remote for volume control and muting. The Samsung's is supposed to be universal, though, and might be programmed to do so. Another nit: Muting is not 100% complete. There was slight sound leakage in all muting situations (both from the remote and "internal muting") on my set. It seemed like Lilliputians had taken up residence inside the set.NOTESYou can turn off the obtrusive (to me) bottom blue light if desired from the menu.Samsung has some info on their website about the unit, including the product manual (very nice--why can't competitors do something this simple and helpful?).The power cord is detachable from the set (yes!). It's three-pronged, with a grounding prong (reflects Samsung's monitor heritage?).A brief note about size for those of you changing from old-style analog direct-view sets to an LCD like this. A 32" analog set is a 4:3 ratio set; while a 32" HDTV LCD set is "widescreen" at the theater-like 16:9 ratio. What this means in practice is: on your old analog set some DVDs and broadcast HDTV programs are centered on the set with black bars at the top and bottom (some DVD players will allow you to "zoom" and crop the picture to fill up the set, but you lose program's side action). They should fit just fine in your new LCD, though. Analog content that fills up the screen of your old analog 32" set is centered with black bars at the sides on your new LCD set. In effect, with older content, it's like watching a program on a 26" set, not a 32" set, according to the experts. I hope this isn't too confusing. The bottom line for me: when replacing a 32" analog set, think about going to a larger 37" or 40" LCD set if your budget and shelving can manage it.I discovered that my AmEx and Master Charge extend the in-home parts and labor service warranty for an additional year; my Visa does not, so it might be a good idea to check with your credit card company prior to purchase. There were a few issues with the LNT3253H that surfaced during the week that I owned it. I strongly recommend thoroughly previewing (kicking the tires, as it were and checking your preferences) this or any other large screen TV before buying it from any online retailer (BTW, it seems that most of them will not accept returns). You may wish to check with Amazon customer service to find out exactly what the return and refusal policies are, since, as many of you know, once you hit the "buy" button you may get the dreaded "your order is being processed, you can't make any changes" message if you change your mind. The set and box are not heavy and can be handled reasonably well by one person.

4From an LCD-HDTV first-timer...
By Steve R
I bought this set a week ago, after our 11-year-old, 32-inch, JVC tube TV shorted out. I'd had plenty of experience with LCD computer screens but I'd never really experienced anything but tube TV before. So, although I did plenty of homework before buying the Samsung, it's been a week of learning a LOT of new stuff. Here's what this newbie has learned so far, which will probably be helpful mostly for those who have yet to venture into the land of LCD and HDTV.THE TV ITSELF:Although the Samsung was my among my top picks after doing the research, when I saw it on the wall at Best Buy, the decision was pretty much made. Although I know the stores crank up the brightness and contrast, I figure if they do it for all the sets they have, then you're still on a relatively level playing field. And the picture on the Samsung stood out from the others like a diamond in a mound of charcoal. Rich contrast, sharp resolution, bright without being glaring. (We settled on the 32-inch because our family room is tiny and we are not more than five or six feet away from the screen. Standing that close to the larger sets was kind of overwhelming.)When I got it home I wasn't disappointed, and found the same qualities in the set I purchased as the store model. It was fairly simple to hook up to my cable box and DVD player, and I was watching TV within half an hour. Everything was pretty intuitive, which is good because I am NOT a read-the-directions kind of guy. And the piano-black casing is stunning, although, as another reviewer mentioned, the stand can be a bit wobbly. Be very careful if you have little ones who like to mount furniture. There is a variety of settings for picture and sound quality (including an equalizer mode). The sound is adequate but not dazzling. However, for movies and concerts, I usually channel the sound through my DVD player anyway. I was especially happy to find effective settings to adjust screen brightness for ambient room light, because our family room has a huge wall of windows that make the room extremely bright, so much so that on brilliant sunny days, our old tube TV was almost unwatchable. So far, I've yet to see any conditions in which I can't see the LCD screen perfectly.Overall, the Samsung seems to deliver well on its promises, but what impressed me most (again, keep in mind I'm a newbie here) was the picture on HD channels. It's simply amazing. I was watching a baseball game in HD the other day and they showed a slow-motion replay of a player sliding into second base. You could see every grain of dirt on the base path. The definition is mind-boggling. However...THE LCD/HD EXPERIENCE...Though I was most impressed with the HD picture, I was also disappointed in the non-HD resolution. I guess the most important thing I can impart to other newbies is this... LCD/HD sets are really made for high-definition broadcasting. On those channels (which now make up maybe five percent of my cable company's offerings) the picture is superb. On all the other channels broadcasting in standard format, however, the image appears in a standard-format square on your new wide screen, and the resolution (which used to be great on the tube TV) is actually pretty poor, depending on what you're watching. Additionally, keep in mind that the full-screen image on your tube TV will be much smaller on a wide-screen TV of the same size. Both the Samsung and my cable box have options for changing the picture size, so that you can expand the square image to fit the wide-screen format. But this only distorts the image and can make it even blurrier while cutting off a significant portion of the picture. Also, there's not a lot of standardization in the way different stations format their picture: most are just in 4:3; some are in "wide screen/letter box" but it doesn't fill the whole TV screen, it just appears as a rectangle picture surrounded by a larger black rectangle; and some that are in full-wide-screen mode still leave a black strip at the top and bottom of the screen. I'm considering getting the cable company's "HD Tier" package just so I'll have more HD channels to watch, even though the programming isn't all that spectacular. So, if you're considering this Samsung as your first foray into the world of HD, I think you'll be impressed. But be prepared to sacrifice size and quality on your non-HD channels (and there are MANY), and don't think that when you bring the set home, suddenly those "I Love Lucy" reruns on TVLand will be in stunning wide-screen high-definition clarity. It doesn't work that way. In fact, it works the OTHER way. The HD capabilities just bring out the flaws in broadcasts that were never meant for HD.Hope this helps.

5Excellent HD TV, But Requires High Quality Video Feed
By Buddy S
This TV is capable of producing outstanding video, but it demands a very high quality video feed (HD source through an HDMI cable) to perform up to its full potential. The video adjustments also require considerable tweaking to achieve optimum performance.I have owned my Samsung 32" HDTV (model LNT3253H) for about six weeks. The TV is connected to a Comcast HD Motorola cable box with an HDMI cable. The HD video quality is excellent and the standard definition TV video quality is surprisingly good. It is important to note that these results were achieved only after a good deal of tweaking with the video adjustments. I usually avoid looking at instructions, but I found that this is one product where reading the Owner's Instructions was very helpful. There are a large number of possible adjustments, including some that I had never heard of before. These include Gamma, Color Space, White Balance, Edge Enhancement and Digital Natural Image Engine (DNIe). The Instructions explain what each adjustment does and the on screen Menu permits you to see the effect of each adjustment on the fly, as the adjustments are made. There are also a large number of video source inputs, including 3 HDMIs, probably more than most people will ever need. The TV audio is surprisingly good, especially considering the fact that the sound comes out of two small slits in the front bottom of the cabinet. TV audio is not a big issue for me, however, because I have a home theater system that I usually use when watching TV. But I have no hesitation in using the TV speakers on occasion. The TV sound does not approach home theater quality, but it is perfectly acceptable for watching many programs, especially those that do not involve music or are not broadcast in surround sound.I have a very old outdoor analog rooftop antenna that was connected to my previous TV, a 27" Sony cathode ray tube set. The Sony pulled in about six local analog channels through this antenna. The new Samsung, connected to this old antenna, receives nothing that is watchable. I have not tried an HDTV antenna with the new Samsung. The DVD video quality, using a standard definition progressive scan DVD player that did not perform upconverting (a JVC XV-N44SL) was only fair to good -- nothing special. I was disappointed with these results and purchased a new Sony upconverting DVD player (a DVP-NS90V). The Sony DVD player connected to this TV with an HDMI cable produced a dramatic improvement in video quality. I have not deducted from my 5 star rating for this product because of the lackluster non-upconverting DVD player video and poor antenna performance. I did not buy the TV to watch analog over the air TV broadcasts and I assume the antenna performance would improve if I were to use a new antenna designed for HD reception. Also, the DVD picture quality did improve significantly with an upconverting DVD player.UPDATE 11/13/2007: I recently purchased an HDTV indoor antenna (a Terk HDTVa.) With the Terk antenna connected, the TV pulled in 18 local over the air channels and 5 of these were in high defintion. The high definition reception was crystal clear. Also, those local HDTV stations broadcast in Dolby 5.1 audio were received in 5.1. My five star rating for this product remains unchanged.UPDATE 1/26/2008: As stated above, I usually did not use the TV speakers while watching this TV. But, about 6 weeks ago while watching two back to back NFL football games on a Sunday afternoon with the TV speakers on, I experienced the "audio drop off problem" several times. (This problem is discussed by some other reviewers and in an Amazon customer discussion thread.) The audio cut off completely. I could temporarily cure the problem by turning the TV off and then back on again or by using the remote to scroll through the input sources back to my football game (on an HDMI input) or by turning the cable box off and then on.I called Samsung during that week and the service representative recommended "resetting" the TV which consisted unplugging the TV for 30 seconds. I told him I would do this, but added that I wanted the current firmware version for the TV. He then sent me an email, which led to a link on Samsung's website and I was able to download the new firmware to a USB flash drive. The email had complete instructions on how to obtain and install the firmware upgrade. The flash drive plugged into the left side of the TV and I had no problem installing the upgrade. After resetting the TV and installing the upgrade, I have had no problem with the TV audio and I have made heavy use of the TV speakers in the last six weeks to make certain the problem is resolved. My TV was manufactured in Mexico in March, 2007 and it was shipped with firmware version 1006 and now has version 1022, with the recent upgrade. I should note that "resetting" the TV caused it to loose all the user adjustments I had made to the default settings, including adjustments to the TV video. I now write down and keep in a safe place the numerous adjustments I made to the default settings on this TV - if you loose power or unplug the TV, all of these adjustments will be gone.I also note with some concern that a few Amazon reviewers who purchased recently manufactured versions of this TV continue to encounter audio problems. A TV that can not produce reliable audio is a serious problem. I, however, am not changing my 5 star rating for this product because I have to judge this TV based on my experience and not that of others - the audio problem I encountered was quickly resolved by "resetting" the TV and installing the firmware upgrade.

5Great TV
By Jim G
Purchased this at CostCo. I wasn't expecting great things because of the relatively low price but the picture quality is amazing, better than the other 3 LCDs in our home. The HD picture is so clear that it took getting use to because the images seemed so real. It has an ambient light sensor which dims the screen light in dark and brightens it in daylight. I found it gets too dark at night for my liking. To disable the ambient sensor follow this sequence on the remote (Menu - Picture - More - Advanced Picture - Ambinet Light Sensor - off). Good luck.

547 inches of awesomeness
By Mo
I've owned this television for about a month now, and after you set it up and customize it to your viewing preference (it has a lot of options to tinker with) it's quite amazing. The picture is brilliant, vivid, sharp, and blacks are nice and dark. The smooth motion effect takes some getting used to because at times it may make a movie or show look like it's in fast forward when the camera is panning- I suggest keeping it on the "Medium" setting to counter this. The speakers are excellent, clear and loud. Vizio has really stepped it up with this t.v.

5Fantastic Value- Great 47 inch Flat Screen
By Gary Berman
Recently purchased at Sam's Club for $748. TV was easy to set up and has lots of custom adjustments. Image quality is excellent, built in Sound is OK. Has a built in ambient Light sensor that dims brightness of screen automatically depending on room lighting, but I prefer an always bright screen, so turned the Light Sensor off. Very happy with this purchase, and if you are looking for a 47 inch flat screen LCD you have to take a look at this unit, its a great value !

Two Main reasons: 1) Our elegant design is extremely simple to manufacture, reducing our conversion cost by nearly 75% over our completions' designs. 2) Our high volume distribution allows us to flow our fixed operating costs over a broader distribution sub-set. The result is that we pass the savings onto you.

4Doesn't Claim to be 1080P
By Red Peters
If you read the technical specifications, it clearly states that this television is 1080i, not 1080P. This is why we research before we buy.

5May not be 'TRUE' 1080p, but GREAT picture.....
By D. Berry II
This TV looks so much better than the 720p 50" plasmas for me, it was a no brainer. Most 'true' 1080p plasmas start about $1000 more than this TV, LCD's at 50" cost 5X as much. I really can't tell a difference between this Hitachi and the 'true' 1080p plasmas, if you can, your eyes are better than mine. You can save $400 to $500 by getting a 720p 50" plasma, but you will sacrifice some in resolution. Go compare them side by side, just make sure the inputs at the store are 1080p resolution to show the difference. I am VERY HAPPY with this TV. I bought it for $2000 4/5/07, look around and you can find this price.

5Big picture, not so big price
By Auntie Dee Dee
Just had this delivered two days ago and am totally pleased with the picture and I don't even have the HDreceiver hooked up yet. If you didn't want or expect to get HD, still get this set as the standard def picture istremendous. I am not a technophobe nor audiophile so I found it a bit puzzling to get access from dvd, ps2 orwhy the picture wouldn't come back on, but a little fumbling and I did finally catch on. Totally my fault. Thesound is good for me, I'm not looking to be launched towards the back wall with monster sound. I saved more than $1,000 from my next choice, so there's still Christmas in this house!

5Amazing Combination: Size, Cost, Picture Quality
By Morgan Higham
Pros: 65" is a great size for my living room, and the picture quality allows you to feel that you're there. A seated newscaster looks the same size as if they were on the other side of a window. The custom pro pic adjustments make any source look great!Cons: As with all plasmas, the light reflection can be annoying. It is certainly watchable in the daytime with the shades open, but a bit distracting. The THX mode default is "HD Size 2" 100% scan, which introduces some edge noise with some sources (cable)Summary: I've been waiting for months for the 65 inch V10 to become available. Almost pre-ordered it online several times, but was leary of ordering before it was in stock. Happened into Best Buy on Fri Aug 21 and saw the 58" on display. Asked about the 65" and found out the store had just received one that day and intended to set it up for display the next day. After a short negotiation I had secured this first set for $3899 ($100 off MSRP) and had it delivered free on the following Tuesday. First thing I did after setting it up was to switch the picture setting from Vivid to THX and the picture was amazing. Flipped through a few channels and watched some dark scenes from shows on my DVR that I had been saving just for this purpose. The clarity in low light scenes better than I had imagined. I have played with the custom pro picture settings some, but haven't spent enough time to get it looking better than THX yet. I have enjoyed the Viera Cast features, especially the weather and YouTube. I was watching a movie on cable and started wondering what other movies had the same director. I paused the show, switched to YouTube and looked up the director's name and watched a few clips of him taling about the movie I was watching and a few others he had directed, then went back and watched the rest of the movie. It was nice to be able to do this without having to pull out my laptop. I was also impressed with the picture quality from YouTube, even when I put it on full screen (I don't think most YT videos are prepared to be displayed at 65", but it still looked pretty clear!) I haven't rented a movie from the Amazon download service yet, but I'll have to try it. I can't believe that the picture will equal BluRay though- which reminds me... For some reason it was nearly three days of watching this set before I remembered that I hadn't see a BluRay disk on it. I had been too caught up playing with the settings and Viera Cast and setting up my Harmony report (which is a little tricky to get set up for Viera Cast because I wanted the direction pad to control the DRV when watching cable and to control the TV when using VC, but I figured it out.) Anyway, I finally got around to putting in a BluRay disc and the picture went to a whole other level - like nothing I'd seen before. Going back to Comcast compressed 1080i HD signal after BluRay was like looking through a mist. Now I can't rent BR movies fast enough. I almost want to stop watching my favorite shows on TV and wait for the season to come out on BluRay.Well, if you're still reading- I love this TV -I want to stop writing now, go close the shades and start watching.

5Only if you want the best. Not for the tech-inept.
By G. Ross
Let's start by asking why you want this tv? LCD tv's are lighter, use less energy, costs have come way down, no screen burn in to worry about. However, Plasma tv's are still cheaper, have greater viewing angles, and produce vastly better picture quality. LCD's have come a long way, but they can not reproduce the deep, rich blacks of a plasma. I waited thru a back-order status to get this. Everything I read said that the Pioneer Elite is the best plasma you can buy(for $7000!). Not wanting to spend that, the second best was supposedly this tv. However, I still would not pay $4000. That's why I was shocked to see that my local big-box retailer had it for $2900!! For that it's worth every penny. LCD tv's produce pictures that are bright, crisp, and sharp. Well, I don't like that. Real life is not sharp and crisp, but soft and textured. The picture produced by LCD's seems fake to me. Most often, you'll find LCD's displaying animated films in store demo mode. The reason is b/c animated films are supposed to be sharp and creased and bright, and are good matches for LCD's. I like films, and plasma's do a much better job displaying them. So, why should you buy this model, and not a lower model? What are the main differences? Well, this model is capable of displaying 1080P 24fps(frames per second) at 24hz(the refresh rate of the pic), lower models do not have this capability. What this means, is that it is a perfect match for Blu-ray. Most films are shot in 24fps 24hz. If the tv can't display that, it must "convert" the signal to it's native resolution to display the film. That can mean less smooth motion, and can introduce "noise" into the picture. Broadcast tv doesn't run at 1080P 24 fps, only Blu-Ray films. So, this tv is for serious movie buffs only who will be playing plenty of Blu-Ray films. If you only want to watch tv, or dvd, you can easily get a lower model, such as the G10. This tv is not for the tech inept. It is loaded with features, and is capable of so many adjustments that non-pros can easily get lost. The remote is pathetic. It's non-universal, and won't control any other components, unless they are also Panasonic, and have the proprietary Viera Link. For a tv this expensive, it's expected you'll have a universal remote. Only the Vol and Chan buttons are backlit. There are 6 "modes" to watch. Standard, Game, Vivid, Studio-Reference, THX, and Custom. I use Studio-Ref, as I find THX too sepia toned, Standard too washed out, VIVID and Game too bright(tho Vivid is useful for brightly lit rooms). There is a C.A.T.S system, which automatically adjusts brightness depending on ambient lighting. I leave this off. You'd think that in bright rooms it would get brighter, but it actually gets dimmer?! These days, plasma's are less susceptible to burn-in, but jic, there's 2 modes of anti-image retention. You can have a scrolling bar go across the tv, or have a "random pixel orbiter" to help. There's an eco-energy saving mode, which puts a timer on the tv to turn-off if there's no signal for a certain amount of time. You can set different levels of block noise and mosquito noise reduction. You can set different black levels from dim to bright, and there are 2 different sizes for HD. Sometimes, broadcast tv has digital info on the screen edges that show up as a "crawl" on the edge. Adjusting the size can eliminate that. There are multiple audio settings as well. There's an automatic volume control that keeps the volume at the same level(sometimes commercials are louder-this prevents that). There's also a simulated 3d sound field. Let's face it tho, if you buy this, it's expected you'll have a surround set-up, and not rely on the tv's speakers. There's plenty of inputs;4 HDMI(including 1 on the side for ease in wall-mounting) PC inputs, sd card input, and plenty of analog. The worst con of this tv is reflection. This tv is supposed to have an anti-glare screen, but even when my small 25 watt lamp is on, I can see it reflected on the screen. Otherwise, the picture is outstanding. There is superb black level performance, great color quality, and smooth motion. With my Oppo BDP83, the picture is stunning. With regular tv, there is still false-contouring artifacts aplenty(best way to describe this is seeing "rings" of distortion when watching, say, a light in a fog bank). Watching HD Theater, a 1080i channel, the picture is amazing. There is very little "noise", colors are accurately rendered, and there are deep, rich blacks. I recommend this to anyone who wants the best of what's currently available. That means 1080P Blu-Ray movies, and HD TV, and surround sound with universal remote. If you just want regular dvd, and lots of TV, go with the G10 model, and save money. Oh, and I will definitely be having an ISF tech calibrate this, as it has so many adjustments that even a techno-phile like me is a bit overwhelmed.

5Fantastic Picture Quality
By Sharok Hafizi
This is a wonderful TV. I used to have a 65" LCD (LC-65D93U) for the past two years and 10 days ago I upgraded to TC-P65V10. I used a set of break-in slides for 180 hours (to age the color phosphors and get it ready for professional calibration). Finally, it was calibrated today and WOW!!!! The picture quality is unbelievable. Maybe the best A/V purchase I've ever made.

5" Incredible Picture, Stunning 3D "
By J. Bronson
Pros:* Incredible Picture very near the quality of the high end Samsung's. Whites, Blacks,Colors are all exceptional.* Stunning, Amazing 3D - I can't even put into words how good this TV is at 3D, Other than its 100x better than I could of expected. Even when the source is 2D it does a decent job, of course this completely depends on the source. Now when the source is actually 3D, BluRay's or PS3 games, it's down right mind blowing how good and cool it is.* Beautiful Stand, if you don't hang it on the wall the stand doesn't disappoint.* Magic Remote, 1st impression was "This is not going to cut it." Pleased to say my 1st impression was wrong. It is super easy to use and very quick at navigating.* Built in Apps - Netfix, Hulu this is becoming typical in most tv's,dvd/blu ray players, dvr's etc. Wont go into great detail, but its nice to have it directly in the TV and it works great , no complaints.Cons: App store - At the moment is pretty pathetic, nothing there worth downloading. Hopefully this is something that LG improves over the next few months. I must add, the extremely popular apps are already on the TV such as Netfix,Hulu,Amazon Video,Facebook,Twitter,Pandora,Youtube,MLB.TV,Vudu,MoG,Google Maps,Picasa.Overall I am going to rate this 4* but, really I'd rate it 4.5.Loosing .5 stars for the app store.Picture quality would be 4.75 stars.3D would be 5 stars. (Actually 6!)Extremely happy with my purchase would not trade it for any other TV in it's price range.

1Twice malfunctioning, support non-existant.
By Robert
I ordered this TV (55LM8600) after years of purchasing and trusting the LG brand, as replacement for an older 47-in non-3D LG LCD TV. While the delivery and appearance are top notch, this new TV either freezes or restarts every 10-15 minutes. When I first experienced the issue I contacted LG and they tried to troubleshoot over the phone, verified it was not a network/power/signal issue and a technician was dispatched for confirmation. The technician verified the issue, but noted that he "thought" it might be the main board, and that part was on back-order. The technician then recommended that I contact Amazon to replace. Amazon replaced it without issue. However, the replacement has the exact same fault. Upon contacting LG, I am told to once again contact Amazon as they believe I need another replacement. Upon contacting Amazon, I am told that a replacement would take a month or two as they are out of stock. I then contacted LG a final time and asked for a supervisor. I once again explained my issues and was told that a technician would need to be sent to diagnose the issue and order parts, parts that may be on backorder. LG would not offer a replacement, only a repair, but the repair might not work and it would take a few months to find that out (which would be outside of my Amazon return window). I am not sure what happened to customer service at these electronics manufacturers that after two malfunctioning TVs that it is apparently too much to ask to have them send out a technician with a replacement TV. I cannot be upset at Amazon, they helped where they could, and now unfortunately are out of stock of replacements. It appears that I will not to get to try a third time and will now think twice before buying LG products again.

4Excellent TV - as long as you buy it with the right expectations
By Ramkumar Balaraman
For my needs, this was an excellent buy. I imagine I would have been equally happy with the 55LM7600, but it was not in stock at my local MicroCenter where these are selling at insanely good prices. There are of course a few things to consider before you decide to buy this TV:Will the TV be situated in a basement, Or is most of your TV viewing done in dim lighting, Or do you care more about picture quality than brightness? If yes, get a plasma. If not, move on to the next question. Will you rarely be watching 3D content? If yes, get a Samsung 2D or even 3D TV. If not, move on to the next question.Do you live in a home with lots of storage space and outlets to keep 3D glasses charged (i.e. not a cramped NY apartment), and do you expect not to have more than 6-8 people watching 3D movies at the same time? If yes, get a Samsung 3D TV. If not, move on to the next question. If you came this far after the questions, as I did, this is the right TV for you. You might also be happy with the 55LM7600.What you should be prepared for:1. Ghosting and Flash-lighting. These defects are manifest in all edge-lit LED TVs. My previous TV is a Vizio XVT3D, which was a back-lit TV. It had no flashlighting, but still had noticeable ghosting, though not as bad as this LG unit. These defects are most noticeable when watching a dark movie (think dark knight), or a movie with cinema black bars on the top and bottom. For most content, when sitting a brightly lit room, the defects are not noticeable at all. The same issue affects top of the line Samsung TVs as well.2. Poor black levels. The black levels on this TV are nowhere near the black levels on my previous Vizio TV. If you calibrate the TV for deeper black levels, brightness suffers as well. LG displays are poorer than Samsung displays in this regard. A properly calibrated Samsung TV gets both better black levels and a brighter display than the corresponding calibrated LG TV.So why would you still buy this TV:1. Very good looking. TV looks great both on and off. It has such a thin bezel that the width and height are almost the same as the 47" Vizio XVT3D that it replaced.2. In a brightly lit living room (which mine is), you will love the brightness and picture quality of this TV for most programming. Its only marginally worse than a Samsung TV having similar features. While videophiles would differ, I like the bright, vibrant colors on this TV much better than that of my backlit Vizio. Yes, blacks are not as deep and there is uneven flashlighting along the top edge, but the picture just feels so much better.3. Audio is much better than my previous TV, though this doesn't matter to me since I have an external Vizio bar and subwoofer that produce much better sound. But you could get by with just the inbuilt speakers. The only issue is that I now need separate remotes for the TV and sound control, so I ended up buying a Logitech harmony. I never liked the magic remote much anyway. It was very annoying whenever the mouse pointer turned up on screen when moving the remote by mistake, and what kind of remote doesn't have a dedicated input button?4. 3D is truly usable and excellent. A relative who swears by Samsung was blown away by the quality of 3D on this TV. The half-HD issue with passive 3D TVs is really a non-issue. Glasses are very lightweight and easy/cheap to replace. I don't have to worry about the kids breaking them. Nothing to recharge. Being an IPS display, 3D looks good even from wide angles. I recently watched Hugo in 3D, having previously seen it in 2D, and the experience is incomparable. The 3D in my previous TV was active-3D, and the heavy flickering glasses gave me a headache, and I never bothered recharging them after they ran out. I know the newer Samsung glasses are very lightweight and are rated at 70 hours per charge, but with a toddler around and never having enough outlets, its still a major entry barrier for me. I might consider active 3D again if they design TVs such that the glasses can be docked behind the TV.5. Excellent value. This unit set me back 12 benjamins at MC. A Samsung 3D TV with similar features was much more expensive at the time of this writing. Expense has never been the sole reason for me to choose a TV, but it definitely helps when the TV you choose based on features is also a great value.6. You can 'throw' youtube videos from your smartphone (Android/iPhone) to the TV. Probably useless for many, but very useful for me. All the other apps on the TV are redundant since I also have a Roku and PS3, but the youtube feature alone makes the 'smart' capability worthwhile. The only feature I really miss compared to my previous TV (Vizio XVT3D) is the ability to connect a bluetooth stereo headset. I got so used to this on the Vizio during those occasional late night gaming sessions using my PS3 while my toddler slept in the next room. I didn't realize this feature wasn't there until after I bought the TV. I just assumed since the remote was bluetooth a bluetooth headset would be supported as well. Sadly I was wrong. A little research also showed that the XVT3D was more of an outlier with such features and most modern TVs still don't have even half the features that it did 2 years ago. I do enjoy 3D gaming more now, so I guess you still really can't have everything.Overall, this was a great purchase for me. Definitely recommend, provided you have similar circumstances.
