5King of the Hill
By G. King
For the first year, Toshiba has badged all of its LCD HDTV models as "Regza" which stands for Real Expression Guaranteed by amaZing Architecture. And amazing architecture is what you first notice when you get this 42" 1080p LCD HDTV home. The piano black finish is currently in vogue with high end electronics manufacturers, but upon close inspection the black is actually covered with metallic flakes that give it a deep luster and shine. The soundstrip speaker with SRS Wow technology and formidable bass reproduction is recessed neatly along with an accompanying brushed stainless steel strip along the bottom. The TV is solidly connected to a swiveling base which extends several inches in front of the stand in a large crescent shape to lend stability to the set when it is placed on a tabletop or shelf. The inputs are neatly recessed in the back facing downward for ease of access if and when the set is mounted on the wall. All in all, when turned off, this TV serves as a cosmetically appealing centerpiece to a living room or den.Be prepared: when connected to SDTV (or basic terrestrial cable), the channels appear grainy and washed out. This is because HDTV's all display SDTV fairly poorly; they are equipped to handle much higher resolution sources. So, when connected to a 480i source such as SDTV cable, the picture is poor compared to a CRT TV, whose native resolution is 480 lines of resolution. Prepare, when upgrading to any 1080p set, to purchase a cable or DrectTV package with HD channel programming. If you're hesitant to upgrade to HD broadcasting, probably put off the purchase of any HDTV capable of displaying 1080p, and either buy a larger CRT TV or an HDTV only capable of handling 720p.Toshiba REGZA LCD TV's incorporate what is called CineSpeed into their panels. This essentially means the set employs an 8 milisecond or faster response time for refreshing the image displayed on the screen. For fast moving situations like sports, or high contrast movies with action packed sequences, this feature is invaluable. All previous ghosting associated with LCD TV's has been eliminated, and even bright white objects moving across a dark background look smooth, true to their color, and leave no trail. DynaLight dynamic back light control makes the black truly black, and the whites vivid (almost comparable to plasma TV's with 10,000:1 contrast ratios). Other features unique to this Toshiba Regza TV are ColorBurst wide color gamut and PixelPure 3G 14-bit internal digital video processing. These options, together, make the picture displayed from 1080 p sources unbelievably clear and flawlessly reproduced without overscanning. In response to a review posted for this TV, VGA is a virtually obsolete connection. Most high end computers use either DVI (which is also mediocre) and higher quality media center PC's with Windows Vista premium use an HDMI compatible graphics processing unit with an HD rated display. Few TV's allow a 1080p source from a VGA connection. XBox 360's downfall was not using HDMI compatible hardware - this is additionally where the Playstation 3 far exceeds the XBox 360 in terms of hardware with built in blu-ray that incidentally looks outstanding in 1080p with this TV, but also using HDMI as a connection method. This set is comparable in terms of response time and dynamic contrast ratio to the higher priced LG 42" 1080p model, and beats it in terms of picture tweaking options. The Sharp 42" Aquos 1080p HDTV has a horrible (1,200:1) contrast ratio and is almost not worth purchasing unless you plan on sitting directly in front of the TV. Also, if you plan to sit 2 inches in front of your TV, you probably aren't intelligent enough to own one - the difference between 720p/1080i and 1080p is only noticeable based on how close you are sitting to the television and 2 inches would be close enough to notice jagged edges in even ultra XHD or cinema digital which displays beyond 1080p. Close enough, all smooth lines look jagged and that is the nature of the pixel - pixels are square, therefore all curved lines are composed of a series of straight edges. Also, LG's comparable 42" 1080p HDTV is less than 100 dollars more expensive than this Toshiba, and for the record, LG is only in its second generation of LCD TV's whereas Toshiba is in its 3rd generation (this is the first year for the Regza badge). If you're upset about the component inputs and the VGA not handling a full 1080p signal, buy a 1080p upconverting DVD player (under 100 dollars now) with an HDMI output (I suggest Samsung's DVD1080P7 which has an optical out if you want to hook up to a home theater system). This TV has 3 HDMI inputs and can more than handle all your AV needs. In all, this Toshiba model outdoes Sony's XBR Bravia, Sharp's Aquos, LG, and Samsung models. The dynamic contrast ratio, coupled with the Pixel Pure 14bit processing power produces a sharp, clear picture with unbelievable smoothness, clarity, and vivid realistic color reproduction. In addition, this is one of the only TV's in the under $2,000 range that includes a remote that can be used as a practical universal remote. Some techies love their fancy touchscreen universal remotes a la Logitech Harmony 1000, but this remote is solid, has great range, and is a fitting match to the solid TV it is paired with. Not at all the cheap hunk of plastic you get with the current Sharp LCD TV's on the market. The price of this TV, which encompasses a design quality shared with $3500 Toshiba Regza sets, unique Toshiba features like CineSpeed and Colorburst, 1080p native resolution, and 3 HDMI inputs make it the best value under $2,000 and comparable to much more expensive sets. Whether an audiophile or just someone looking for a great affordable LCD HDTV, this set delivers.

5Amazing Quality!
By P. Speyer
I was finally ready to purchase a HDTV and went down to the local Best Buy because the the great financing of 2 yrs same as cash and sales they had this Memorial Day. I was interested in the 42" Sharp Aquios LCD 1080p before I was on my way down to the store to view all TVs in person. When I got there I saw the other tv I i was slightly interested in to compare it to the Aquios was the Toshiba REGZA 1080p and was blown away by the resolution of the promo they were playing on HD DVD, the price and of course 3 yrs same as cash pan they had on Toshiba tvs. Needless to say I was sold! I got the TV for $1519(minus tax) score. I am a big fan of Toshiba from the TV I replaced which I bought in winter of 2000 which has never given me problems. While I was there I picked my Toshiba HD-A20 1080p HD DVD palyer to replace my original DVD player that I had purchased back in 1999 and paid $400 for, and agian never gave me any problems. Viewing both "Phantom of the Opera" and "Corpse Bride" were amazing at 1080p and I'm a stickler on resolution. Needless to say I side with Toshiba there products and HD DVD. I am at this moment extremely happy with my purchase.

4How to Fix Audio/Video Problems
By Sean J Biehle
I agree with many of the other reviewers that this is a solid TV for the price. The sound and picture issues appear to be associated with the version of the firmware that ships with the product. You can upgrade the firmware rather easily by downloading the update (42pfl3704d_f7_fus_aen.zip) from the Philips Support site ([...]), loading the appropriate version to a USB drive, unplugging your TV and then plugging the USB drive into the available port on the side of the TV. When you plug the TV back in and power it on, the firmware will upgrade automatically.Direct link: [...]One final note, I tried to copy this firmware from a Mac to a USB drive and the TV would not recognize it. I advise to download the firmware to a PC and then copy to your USB.

1NO Warranty possible
By RockClimber
We bought the tv in January and have had problems ever since. Without warning the sound instantly goes to a blaring static sound. No voice or other sounds, just horrible static. Picture remains fine. We called Philips and they said we could trade our new tv for a "refurbished" unit. OR we could get it serviced if we sent it to Bartlesville, OK (no service in OKC or Tulsa) or Denver, CO. What good is a 1 yr warranty if there is no place to do warranty work or they will only send you someone else's headache. Will do all I can to prevent others from getting ripped off by Philips.

2Greatest HDTV in it's Price Range!!
By C. Peterson
After doing alot of searching for a HDTV, I choose this model and brand.I orginally had purchased a Vizio 42inch 1080 HDTV for 699$, I then seen this tv at Target for the exact same size, most of the same specs, but some better!!!I hooked up the Phillips HDTV, and I must say it is EXCELLENT! The picture is much clearer, the design is more stylish, remote control doesn't feel cheap or look cheap compared to most tv's in it's price range.UPDATE - 3 years later the tv has stopped working. It won't power on, and only makes a buzzing noise, it. Was gear while it lated. Maybe I should have kept the Vizio, because at the time Phillips was known as a better tv brand, but as of today Vizio is ranked with the bigger brands such as Sony, Lg, Panasonic, Samsung and etc.

5Amazing Quality!!!
By That Guy
When noticed this product was advertised at Fry's for $1499, I had to call and make sure it wasn't a miss print or some kind of administrative error. To my surprise, it was advertised accurately so I picked it up the same day. This TV is AMAZING, and the detail that I can see in comparison to my 47inch LCD 120Hz is amazing. The picture setup is easy, and you'll be watching TV with clarity and detail you have never experienced before. I kept my old TV connected and did a side by side comparison watching the same movie through a Blu-ray player and the difference is very noticable, even my wife points out details that she didn't see before. The sound is spectacular, and the voice clarity system ensures that the music/background noise doesn't drown out voices.I have not tried to use the 3D mode yet due to lack of interest in wearing glasses while watching TV, but if you look at the CNET review for this TV, it says that it has one of the best 2D pictures in TV's reviewed this year.

1One Problem After Another
By IKHyland
I have spent many hours reading the reviews of the different LED TV's, and finally purchased the LG 55LX9500. I was so excited when I received it!! The picture was AWESOME!! Within a few hours, I noticed a little black spot on the screen near the top right hand corner. It wasn't a bad pixel, but what looked like a bad backlight LED. I called LG Customer Support, and reached a call center overseas. After explaining the problem over, and over to the support rep, he finally determined that a repair technician would need to look at the TV. The repair tech. was scheduled for an 8:00 am - 12:00 pm appointment window, but never showed. I finally received a phone call at 5:30 pm, and he said that he would need to order the LED backlight panel. I was told that the parts should be here in about 1 week. After waiting over 3 weeks, I received a call from LG Customer Service. The parts are not available, and don't see them being available anytime soon. LG then offered to replace the TV with a brand new unit. I was OK with that. After checking inventory, there were no 55LX9500's anywhere in stock. LG then offered a refurbished unit as a replacement. I was a little uneasy with this, but I agreed to take a refurbished unit. After checking inventory, there were no refurbished 55LX9500's anywhere in stock. LG then offered a 2011 comparable model replacement. I got a little excited, but then was let down when I was told that there was no model to replace this TV. LG finally said that they will give me a refund for the amount I paid for the TV, but not the 3D glasses I purchased that only work with the 2010 LG TV's. Luckily, the retailer I purchased them form said that they would take them back outside of their normal return policy for in-store credit. (Thank you OneCall, you guys are GREAT!!)LG Customer Service told me that I should be receiving a phone call from their logistics company to pick up the TV. At this point, the screen started displaying vertical stripes on the right half of the screen. The TV was still viewable, but it was rather annoying. After waiting a week, I contacted LG Customer Service again, and was told that I should have been provided with the contact information for the logistics company on the first call I made. I then contacted the logistics company, and gave them the reference number I had received. The logistics company couldn't find any reference to me, or my reference number. I then called LG Customer Service again, and I was told that they hadn't yet entered my return request. (after a week) I was then assured that they would be entering it by the end of business that day, and should be receiving a call from the logistics company "Within a few business days". That night, the TV has stopped working completely. It is now 3 day later, and I still haven't heard from the logistics company. This is the only TV I have in my house, and it doesn't work. I have to wait for LG to receive the TV in their warehouse, and inspect it before they will issue a refund.I can then order a new TV, and wait for it to be delivered. After this level of customer service I have received from LG, I will NOT be purchasing another LG product.

5Absoluty, Positively best TV on the market right now, 3D or 2D
By JJSS
OK, so I had made my decision to buy a new television and have spent the last 4 months researching televisions, HDMI, 3D, contrast ratios and just about anything else related to television specs. I decided, besides from my research, the only way I'm really going to get to make my decision is by going to the local tv dealers (Best Buy) and deciding there. I made up my mind to go with a 3D LED television, although there isnt alot of 3D options right now and everyone is raving about the Panasonic 3D plasma, I felt like the 3D LED-LCD TV's offer the best contrast ratio. By the way, contrary to popular belief, don't let anyone tell you contrast ratio isnt that important because IT IS. I narrowed my list down to 4 desirable selections: the Samsung UN55C8000, the Sony Bravia KDL55NX810, the Vizio XVT3D554SV, and the LG INFINIA 55LX9500. I went into Best Buy, and they only had three of the TVs I wanted, the LG wasn't on display. According the salesman, the LG was "too expensive to display", whatever. So I thought "ok maybe this is a sign to mark that off the list". I compared the other three, had the salesman hookup all three to a blu-ray player and then a 3D blu-ray player, and by far the Samsung blew the other two out of the water. So I decided on that one, but I was going to order through Amazon from OneCall (by the way the best place to order online, definately go with them!!!) because they had the same TV $600 cheaper than Best Buy's SALE price. I figured I can go ahead and buy some 3D glasses, 3D BLU-RAY player and a couple of movies with the money I saved. I got home, signed into Amazon and as I was about to click the "add to cart" button for the Samsung, a review off to the side of the screen on the LG 55LX9500 caught my eye. I'm thinking "Ok that's weird". I read the review, and it was like a preacher preaching the gospel to me, I became a believer (not to be a blasphemist). So I took a HUGE risk and ordered the LG tv, which by the way, Best Buy had the Samsung TV at $2699 instock and the LG TV at $3999 ship to store, and OneCall on Amazon had the Samsung TV at $2085 and the LG at $2099, YOU CANT BEAT THAT PRICE!! When the TV arrived, let me tell, you the first thing that gives you that "WOW" effect is the elegant design of the very slim bezel along the border of the TV. It is almost all screen, very sexy! I hooked it up to my PS3 since my 3D Blu-Ray player hadnt made it in yet (another positive of OneCall is fast shipping!) played Avatar, and ladies and gentlemen, I cant even express the sheer beauty of the picture quality OUT OF THE BOX!! IT WAS'T EVEN CALIBRATED YET! I know a guy that professionally calibrates and I had him over and he was even stunned by the picture. At the time I was actually looking for another 55" TV for my game room, so I ordered the Samsung for the heck of it to see, and when it showed up I hooked it up to the same playstation, all which were plugged into the same panomax power conditioner, and folks it couldn't even compare!! I sent back the Samsung and got another LG for my game room. ALl I can say is I know this is just a review and viewing preference and picture quality is completely subjective and opinionated, but I highy reccomend this TV and if your in the market for a 3D 55" LED telivision, try it out. Another yet positive about OneCall is if your not completely satisfid with the product, you can send it back within a certain amount of time. Try it, and I guarentee you won't be disappointed. Panasonic VIERA P54VT25, eat your heart out!!!

5Toshiba is KING of HDTV
By B. A Reichle
Ask most video heads, and they will agree Toshiba is the best. I had a 53hx71 that I recently sold, and I bought this set from Amzon last week. The shipping was the only headache and most of that was me wanting some instant gradification.I live in LA and the TV was shipped out 5 hours away... but yet it took a week to get... thats stupid. Its annoying when you track it and it says its at LAX (20 mins away).. I wanted to walk it home! The actual TV is AMAZING.. the regular cable looks great, and this is the first series I have seen that you dont noticed regular tv being stretched!! The HDTV rocks, the only negative thing I can think of is having to adjust all the inputs because its shipped with the contrast at 100!...take that down to about 48...Seriously, this tv is a HUGE bang for a small buck.

5Big bang for your buck !
By VC
I write reviews for various gadgets and restaurants and this is the 1st time when I do not have anything negative to write about the quality. I bought this TV back during 2004 Thanksgiving sale from BestBuy and paid about $1350. It took about few weeks for the picture tube to break in and show its real colors ! Then I had a technician from best buy come over and calibrate it (as you may already know that Rear Projection TVs need calibration, but if you have the bestbuy protection plan they would do it for free at your home). Ever since then all my friends come to my place to watch the big games, movies and even to play xbox in widescreen - and everyone just drools over the picture quality. The picture is crisp, specially when watching HD content and watching movies on DVD. I do not watch analog channels since almost all of them are in HD now for a small difference of $7 or so per month. I looked at Sony, Samsung and Toshiba - Toshiba won the race by a mile. Here are a few things worth mentioning about Toshiba 51H84:- Picture is absolutely crisp- Colors are beautiful (try watching Shrek on it)- Even movies in 4:3 look great- Size does matter ! I was about to settle for 42 and I am extremely glad I pushed myself to 51"- The multi-choice zoom feature will satisfy your appetite to zoom any sort of programming.- 7 inputs including HDMI (I use Component and am satisfied)The only negative:- Doesn't have a built in HD tuner, so you cannot use its cool Split (2 screens) and Channel Scan feature (split screen in 12 screens). It has 2 inputs for Antenna, I connected one to the cable box and other bypassing the cable box, so I can screen the channels in analog (using TV's analog tuner) and then watch it in HD.There is a false rumor that Toshiba's doesn't do a good job with green - Not true ! Myself and few of my friends spent hours looking at 3 different brands and Toshibas (after calibration) does the Best job with all R G and B (Sony RPTV didn't do a good with Reds) !Calibration is the key - make sure you spent some time to tune it after few weeks of picture tube breakin period.I would recommend this TV as a big bang for your buck !

2Unreliable at Best
By mtp137
This is my first big screen tv. I was excited to get it home, and had no idea what to expect. The picture did not seem as clear as the in store picture had seemed when watching Dish Network, however it was amazing when watching DVD movies.About 2 weeks after getting it home, it made a 'pop' sound and the convergence went out of whack. I re-adjusted it and it was fine... until it did it again, and again usually about a week apart. Then about a month and a half later, while watching a movie, it did the same 'pop' noise, only this time it shut itself off. It would not turn on, and the red power light was flashing. I unplugged it and plugged it back in and it worked. The service call was to be the following week, that weekend it turned off again, and this time nothing would bring it back. The service tech had to take the chasis with him and 2 days later they returned with it, saying they had replaced 2 of the chips, (related to convergence), and 2 fuses. The picture was much improved in all cases and I thought, "OK, I just got a TV with a couple of bad chips."Exactly 2 weeks after the repair, it made a 'pop' sound and the convergence went out of whack. I re-adjusted it and it was fine... until it did it again 2 days later. I am awaiting the repair tech, who will be coming in 2 days from now, and hoping it doesn't go all the way out again.IF YOU WANT TO VISIT WITH A SERVICE TECHNICIAN TWICE A MONTH...This may just be the TV for you.

4Great for TV or Movies (do firmware update for video games)
By Jasper
Multiple EDIT sections added, Philips fixed the lag issue in the latest firmware release. If you don't want to read the whole review: This TV is pretty good for movies and TV, but is unusable for video games. EDIT: The latest firmware update fixes the lag issue! Thank you Philips for listening.Postive features :The image looks very good. It is a 120Hz 1080P TV with anti-judder. It does an excellent job of anti-judder or "digital natural motion" as they call it. It produces good contrast (for an LCD) after calibration, and after some painful calibration color can look OK as well. There are 3 HDMI inputs, composite, component and S-video. There is coaxial audio out (more on this in a moment). I had some friends over and they all agree it looks great. EDIT: After using DNM for a while now I actually prefer it off, mostly because it makes film look like video. You may want to take this into consideration before buying a 120Hz over a cheaper 60Hz tvMissing \ Lacking features:There is no vga input. There is no digital audio in - other than HDMI. There is no optical audio out. There is no full resolution 1:1 signal to display (image is always overscanned in 1080p). This means there is no way to get all 1080 pixels width on the screen and the image is cropped between 2.5% and 5%. Note that 1:1 is available when a non-HD or non-SD resolution is passed over HDMI. This issue is minor, only noted for completeness. There is only one user preset, and if you change any display setting after selecting a preconfigured preset (game, movie, sports), you overwrite your user preset, so you have to remember or write down your calibration settings. This too is a minor issue. There are limited user configuration options: you cannot set gamma, you cannot control the level of digital natural motion, you cannot turn off dynamic contrast, you cannot set HDMI black level. Most people won't understand those settings anyway. A TV calibration professional will have access to more calibration options using the maintenance mode where they can set white balance and cut-off levels.Negatives:Lag. Even with "Game" preset, or with 120 hz turned off and virtual surround turned off there is substantial lag. This makes it unusable for most video games. Philips is working on this, so I hope a future firmware update will resolve this issue. EDIT: Philips did resolve this and I am glad to report that the game mode and even slight modificiation of the game mode (to create a personal profile) has minimal lag. 120Hz has unavoidable video lag due to the fact that the TV has to "see" the frames before it can process the inbetween frames.Even though there is lag in 120Hz mode and in games (EDIT: after firmware update lag in game mode is negligable) you do not notice it on movies because the audio is re-synched, but this forces me to use the coax audio out to my older receiver ([Device -> TV -> Receiver] instead of [Device -> Receiver -> TV]). The alternative would be to use a receiver with lip sync functions. Philips tells me a receiver with HDMI 1.3 should sync correctly. If you have to use and older receiver, like me, then be aware Digital audio out is only Dolby Digital. A DTS bitstream passed to the TV seems to be decoded and ouput as stereo. Chances are that if you have a receiver that handles the new DTS formats then it will also do audio sync for you anyway. If there is a firmware update from Philips that addresses these issues I will come back and alter this review (looking forward to that). EDIT: Thank you Philips for fixing this issue.Bottom Line:If you do not intend to play video games then I can recommend this TV. EDIT: Firmware update fixes the video lag. I can recommend this TV.

4With the right settings this TV is a great buy for the price!
By LLCoolJay
I bought this TV as a second choice when the Vizio I wanted was out of stock. As most reviewers have stated the picture quality on Blu-ray and my now defunct HD-DVD movies are spectacular! It makes watching a movie a new experience as the high def and natural motion feature gives the movies an almost 3D realism and pop, very satisfied with that! View from angles produce slightly softer picture but overall still solid. I havent experienced any of the sound fluctuations that other reviewers have talked about so far but I have noticed that if you hookup a sound system through the component cables there is a noticeable lag between the sound and picture so it looks like your watching a Kungfu movie :( I'm going to see if using a sound system through HDMI solves the problem (I'll update this review if I get any results). Now to the meat and potatoes: I see everyones been complaining about videogaming on this tv. I first had this problem myself but ONLY on my Xbox 360, PS3 games play magnificently on the TV with no lag or screen distortion. I have found that if you turnoff Natural Motion 120hz and use an HDMI hookup instead of Component the lag will no longer affect gameplay. (Dont put Game Mode on as it will switch 120hz back on without you knowing which will cause the distortion and lag again) I'm VERY HAPPY I found this out because Im a huge gamer and I almost took this tv back before I made this discovery. All in All, I am very satisfied with this TV and would recommend it to anyone especially for its affordability and the fact that it performs so well in spite of the cheaper pricetag. Just be sure to make a few adjustments to your setup in regards to your picture and sound as well as your gaming setup. Hope this helps anyone on the fence about this HDTV, now back to Call of Duty lol

2Not a Full 120 HZ TV... Baloney for games and extra monitors
By Scooby
I have this television, I will be honest it was a nice buy, but has anyone actually read the manual. I use mine as an addition monitor to play wow and dont get me wrong its a great picture, but through HDMI this tv maxes out at 60hz. Check the specifications page ppl. picture enchancement is full hd 1920x1080 @ 60-120 hz the Hdmi is full Hd 1920x1080 24hz-60hz . If you play video games or use this as a monitor, look for a 120hz hdmi capable tv that also does not lag.

5An Amazing Picture
By M. Ahern
My new Sharp Aquos LC52D85U 52-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV arrived in 4 days, and 3 days early from the Video & Audio Center, in perfect shape. The courier helped me unpack, set up and place this monster on its stand. Great service does not get any better than that. I first plugged in the HDMI connection to my RR HD-DVR and then the power plug, sat down & and struggled to find the HDMI connection I had used in the onscreen menu - there were so many inputs it was trial and error(didn't read the manual, no time!). Finally I landed on input 4 which was the live HDMI connection - the channel was set to a full HD channel and had a Fleetwood Mac concert recorded in 2004 playing in full glorious 1080i. I could see every strand of fly away hair and split ends on Stevie Nicks. Frankly I almost soiled myself because I was not expecting THAT degree of picture quality. I am still getting goosebumps from this beauty. This HDTV is just magnificent. The picture is bright, crisp and free of any banding issues. I can say without a doubt this TV will please even the most finicky of consumers. Tech types can tweak away at the hue and saturation controls to their hearts contect, color temperature, active contrast, fine motion are all customizable. The set even makes 480i HBO broadcasts look almost like HD quality.I have been reading online reviews and customer experiences for over 3 months on all brands of HDTV's prior to pulling the trigger, and I can assure you that you will not be disappointed with this HDTV. I am reluctant to touch the fine tuning picture controls for fear of messing with the already perfect, gorgeous picture right out of the box! One of the reasons I ruled out other brands such as Samsung was the lack of a matte screen to combat reflective glare, as my living room has two banks of floor to ceiling windows & also with cathedral ceilings, facing south. Thus I was concerned with buying just an expensive mirror. It is so sunny in my viewing area an old CRT set was unwatchable during the brightest morning hours - not so this Sharp HDTV. The anti-reflective surface completely eliminates any bothersome reflections. The viewing angle is just about as advertised, I can stand almost 75 degrees to the side and still can view the screen. Just an amazing set. I liked the way the TV will indicate the screen resolution upon changing to a new channel, I find this to be a nice touch. I really liked that the user can alter the range of the OPC and power saving feature so as to limit the degree that the set will automatically reduce brightness in a dark room.An aggressive price, & free shipping just clinched it for me; I had already decided on the Sharp. This a just a great HDTV, if you are considering this set at all, just go for it.

5Best TV ever
By William R. Voss
I've owned a variety of HD TVs. This Sharp Aquos 52" replaces a 61" DLP system. It is superior in every regard. High Def is a joy with this TV and the 120hz fixes problems that have plagued previous LCDs. I wanted to go with the 65" version but the price differential was difficult to justify. The 52" version in my home theater looks great (even my wife was impressed). I hooked up the cable and BluRay player via HDMI and routed the audio from the TV to my 7 speaker Yamaha system via audio optical link. Results were awesome, though I can't crank up the volume when my wife is in the house (I have been encouraging her to visit her mother more :-)

By D. Rice
Sharp Aquos LC52D85U 52-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTVThis TV is the best I've ever owned. Setup was painless and really there was very little tweaking of the colors out of the box. The picture is amazing. PS3 looks great, blueray movies even better and this TV has "5" HDMI inputs. The room it's in is very bright and the TV performs great, my previous TV was a HD CRT and would wash out in the day light. Not so with this TV and sports look amazing!!!! I love this TV and I'm very happy with the purchase. I would recommend it to anyone. It is simply the best TV I have ever viewed.

4Solid Performance
By Nicadaemus
I received this TV yesterday delivered by Amazon.com's carrier Pilot. I first want to say how pleasant the delivery experience was. I had considered buying this TV elsewhere where the shipping would have required me to lift the TV off the back of a truck and carry it up myself. The Pilot delivery person was very friendly, carried the TV into my apartment, unpackaged it, assembled the TV's stand mount and together we placed it on my TV stand. As for the TV itself, I am very satisfied.PROS:* Passive 3D - I've watched several movies with 3D shutter glasses and, while enjoyable, I found the glasses heavy and uncomfortable and the process of charging them tedious. I am sooo happy I don't have to add 3D glasses to the list of things charging in my apartment. I also found the quality of the 3D image superior on this set to the active set I watched (believe it was an early 47" Samsung 3D LED). The 2D-3D conversion is neat to play with, but is not something I will actually use (gives little extra depth of field, but no more than that).* Off Angle Viewing - compared to the 55" Samsung C6300 LED I owned previously, the off-angle viewing on this set is a massive improvement. The Samsung use to wash out pretty quickly at off horizontal angles, not so with the l6200u. Note that with passive 3D, however, the vertical angle is important and the TV will need to be positioned at eye-level. Not a problem for me, but may be an issue for those mounting this TV on a wall.* Bezel - I really like the sleek bezel-less design. Note however that while the screen is bezel-less, there is still a 1/3 inch zone of glass extending to the corners of the screen without pixels.* Accessories/Features - this TV comes with a wireless QWERTY keyboard in addition to the remote for use with the Apps. I also tested it and it will work on any PC for those not looking to use the Apps (I have an HTPC). I was also impressed that the TV came with an IR blaster extension cable for those planning to use the TV remote as a universal remote (this passes the signal through the TV to the blasters (2x) that can be positioned in front of the other devices' IR receivers. Also came with 4x sets of Real 3D glasses (same ones used in the cinema). 4x sets of active 3D glasses would set you back another $200.* No lag - I use my HTPC to play games on this TV and have not noticed any lag. Haven't run any official tests, but I understand that lag is a noticeable issue on some TVs. I run an HDMI cable directly to the TV and a digital audio cable to my receiver.* Price - TV is generally priced lower than its immediate rivals (the LG sets) and with the apps, QWERTY keyboard, dual core processor and bezel-less design that are available only on premium models. Compared to the price of active 3D TVs (TV plus glasses) - it's an absolute bargain.CONS:* Flashlighting - flash-lighting is present on this TV, but only noticeable on a black screen when there is no ambient light. I watched an entire film last night (Cave of Forgotten Dreams) and did not notice the flash-lighting.* Stand mount - the mount this TV came with is pretty cheap and flimsy compared to others (Samsung at least) and the TV itself in the mount is slightly off-level. I droops slightly to the left (barely noticable, but I took out a level and tape measure and confirmed it).* Software update - the TV tried to automatically update its software once connected. I allowed it to do so and it broke the 3D option. I called Toshiba and was able to fix by reseting to factory settings. I would suggest new owners not update their software/firmware until it is confirmed working.* Glossy screen - screen is glossy. Not generally noticeable, but during dark scenes, I have occasionally found myself looking at my own reflection.* Limited user control - [SEE UPDATE BELOW] you can control settings such as brightness, contrast, color and backlight, but not much else. No individual color temperature control, no options regarding dynamic contrast, smoothing etc. The good news is that the default contrast and smoothing settings are well calibrated out of the box. I like the soap opera effect, but most don't - and it isn't noticeable on this TV.Overall, very pleased. Will update this review if my continued experience with it changes my mind.**Update 5/14/12**The TV does have advanced picture controls - I didn't see them at first because you need to scroll down past the last item under "Picture". Typical picture control settings are included other than a method for adjusting the motion blur setting (there is a "cinema mode" but it is greyed out in all picture modes).

5Great TV!
By fizzy1000
I bought this set from Pauls TV thru Amazon, it took 9 days to deliver, threshhold delivery(no help),luckily it was light enough for me to handle myself. It came in it's original box with no additional packing or protection. Setup was simple and it found my home network quickly, Netflix was up and running with no problem. The picture quality while viewing hi-def material thru my Direct-TV box is simply stunning. Rich colors, deep blacks with none of the soap opeara effects I see on my 42 inch bedroom set. Sporting events are fantastic, no blurr whatsoever. I have 3 or 4 3-D channels available and can tell you the effct is amazing! The glasses are light and fit over my regular glasses comfortably. I wasn't able to get the Hubble 3-D disc to play properly tho, it had double side to side images I could'nt format correctly, I can only hope other 3-D discs work ok.(played thru a brand new 3-D Panasonic blue-ray player) I found leaving the set on standard mode delivers the best picture quality on all material I've viewed so far, tho some may prefer a brighter setting. All in all I am delighted with this set and highly recommend it, you could pay alot more for other popular brands and not have the picture quality of this tv.

4Toshiba 55L6200U
By A. Patel
This will be a brief review based solely on appearances and as I continue to learn about the features of the TV, I will add on to this review. (4 Stars based on initial reaction to TV)The TV looks excellent appearance-wise. Amazon shipping (Thru CEVA) brought the TV into the house, unpackaged it, and tested the TV to make sure it works! All was good. The packaging of the TV was pretty good as well (Though I had purchased a 55 LED from LG which had much better packaging...more sturdy which made me worry about this one). All four corners were covered, and there was a Styrofoam board on the front of the TV. I will be setting it up in the coming days and will be doing a more comprehensive review of it.A big drawback from what I can see is that the screen is very glossy! (I believe the screen is actual glass) so that will most definitely be a concern if lighting in the room is an issue. The TV came with 4 3D glasses, a QWERTY keyboard, a remote control, and wires to allow RCA cables to be hooked up.Again this TV looks great and it wasn't very heavy at all!UPDATE:After getting to play around with my new toy for a few days, I'm pleased to say I really enjoy this TV! Amazon had a price point of 984 when I purchased it, it was on sale for a very limited time so it may come back a this price...? Who knows...Anyways, here are a few points and grades that I have been able to assign to this TV:- Screen - 8/10 - It's pretty darn glossy when the TV is turned off, but once it's on, you hardly notice the glare. I, personally, don't have any light source behind the TV so don't really need to worry about glare as much as maybe others but again, when the TV is on, not too bad-Design - 8/10 - I really like the design of this TV! The TV, when off, looks beautiful. I have a very primitive 60" Sony projection LCD to compare to (MASSIVE!) so anything compared to this looks amazing. The bezel according to pictures that I had seen in pictures led me to believe that there was maybe 1/8" bezel, if that. After turning on the TV, you notice that there's about 1/2" border (on the screen, not the actual plastic border) that doesn't contain picture, so this was a bit disappointing.- Motion - 9/10 - I haven't messed around with the settings and am still not even sure if the TV has an option to change the 120HZ motion setting. I really hate when TVs have that "soap opera" effect and am glad to say that this TV has none of that! (none that I can notice anyway) The motion is very smooth but not overly smooth that it looks "soap opera-y"- 2D-3D up-conversion - 8/10 - I have never really seen any other TVs which have up-conversion so can't really compare to any other ones, but I can say that I've tried out Avatar (Blu-Ray) and up-converted that and it looks pretty good! It wasn't the greatest 3D but for up-conversion, it was more then enough.-3D content - 9/10- I watched Under the Sea: IMAX + 3D and this was awesome in 3D on this TV. The colors were extremely vibrant and not washed out at all. Having darkened 3D glasses, I assumed the colors would fade, but this was not the case at all.-I can not comment on Web browsing, Cable-viewing, or gaming yet as I don't have any of those connected, only a 3D blu-ray player. (It's not in its final residing place...once it's there, then I'll connect the other stuff)Any other info needed? Comment and I'll try and respond as best as I can!
